Hope is the spur of life.

Every Life Deserves Hope
AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run
This year is especially momentous for us, as it marks the 25th annual AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run. Twenty five years of
the community rallying behind the shared belief that Every Life Deserves Hope! I want to personally thank you for
demonstrating your belief in that mission. Because of you, we continue to impact the lives of so many of our friends
and neighbors.
For 25 years, AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run has stood as a beacon of hope for numerous citizens in our state. While the
political and cultural landscapes have changed drastically, two thing have remained constant – HIV/AIDS continues
to plague our state and AIDS Walk continues to stand as a beacon of hope. By walking or running with us, you are
shining that light of hope to thousands of your neighbors in the Atlanta region.
The Walk supports eight remarkable organizations that provide life-transforming assistance to over 20,000 people
each year. They also offer HIV and STD prevention programs that reach into every corner of our community. It is frightening to imagine Atlanta without these organizations. People affected by HIV/AIDS would, for sure, suffer greater levels of homelessness, hunger, illness, and even death. We would see even higher rates of new HIV infections. We
would see hopelessness on a catastrophic scale.
Your support gives us HOPE that we are turning the tide! Your generous and compassionate response to the HIV/AIDS
epidemic in our community ensures that every person affected by HIV/AIDS can hope for and achieve an abundant
and productive life.
On behalf of our benefitting organizations and the people they serve, I thank you for your participation in the Walk,
thank you for saving and transforming lives, thank you for asserting your belief that Every Life Deserves Hope. Thank
you for the past twenty five years.
With Deep Gratitude,
James Hughey

And, over 1,000 volunteers who make AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run happen.
With continued success on stage, screen,
television and music along with her
philanthropic endeavors, Sheryl Lee Ralph
has never been one to rest on her laurels.
A triple threat Dreamgirl, Ralph is an
acclaimed veteran of film, television and
the Broadway stage. Her work with AIDS
Walk Atlanta & 5K Run is just the latest
credit on her illustrious resume.
A longtime advocate for HIV/AIDS
causes, Sheryl Lee Ralph has been
engaged in the fight since the earliest
days of the disease. She has done
extensive work with The Diva Foundation,
a national not-for-profit 501C(3) charitable
organization that was founded by Sheryl
Lee Ralph, in 1990, as a memorial to the
many friends she had lost to HIV/AIDS. The
organization focuses on generating
resources and coordinating activities to create awareness of and combat against HIV/AIDS.
The DIVA Foundation utilizes music and entertainment as a vehicle to inform, educate and
erase the stigma attached to this deadly disease.
Ms. Ralph is also the producer/creator of the critically acclaimed DIVAS Simply Singing! the
longest consecutive running musical HIV/AIDS benefit in the country, celebrating 25 years of
artistic AIDS activism this year. She has added the critically acclaimed one-woman show,
Sometimes I Cry; written, directed and performed by Ralph herself, about the lives, loves,
and losses of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS to her list of outstanding credits.
Performed around the world, Sometimes I Cry touches the heart, leaving audiences deeply
moved and encouraged to know their HIV status.
As we celebrate our 25th year of the Walk, we also celebrate Miss Ralph’s lifelong service
and activism for HIV/AIDS awareness. She is a true believer that “Every Life Deserves Hope.”
AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run is proud to host Miss Sheryl Lee Ralph, as our 2015 Ambassador.
In honor of our 25th Annual event, AIDS
Walk Atlanta & 5K Run is honored to host
Special Guest, Douglas Brooks.
Douglas M. Brooks, MSW is the Director of
the Office of National AIDS Policy. He is the
President’s lead advisor on domestic HIV/
AIDS and is responsible for overseeing
implementation of the National HIV/AIDS
Strategy and guiding the Administration’s
HIV/AIDS policies across Federal agencies.
The Office of National AIDS Policy is part of
the White House Domestic Policy Council
and is tasked with coordinating the
continuing efforts of the government to
reduce the number of HIV infections across
the United States. The Office emphasizes
prevention through wide-ranging education
initiatives and helps to coordinate the care
and treatment of citizens with HIV/AIDS.
President Obama had this to say in the
White House’s press release about the appointment of Mr. Brooks:
“Douglas’s policy expertise combined with his extensive experience working in the community makes him uniquely suited to the task of helping to achieve the goal of an AIDSfree generation, which is within our reach,” President Obama said. “I look forward to
having him lead our efforts from the White House.”
AID Atlanta is honored to have Mr. Brooks join us for our 25th Annual AIDS Walk Atlanta &
5K Run. We are grateful for his national direction, and for his continued support of grassroots efforts like our event. AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run appreciates Mr. Brooks time and
commitment to our local efforts to fight HIV/AIDS.
