REVIEW OF THE OPERATION and MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE of the
KINROSS WOLAROI SWIMMING POOL and RECREATION CENTRE
The Recreational Centre and associated heated pool has been a facility in use at Kinross Wolaroi for over 12
years. As part of a whole school Audit of Operations and Procedures, with the associated Risk Management of
these facilities, the School Council is undertaking a review. The review will encompass all aspects of the use of
the pool such as Squad Swimming, the Learn to Swim Programme and use by the school for other co-curricular
activities. In addition the internal and external use of the Rec Centre will be reviewed.
An external consultant, Mr Denis Pontin, will undertake this review. His initial visit to the school will occur on
7th and 8th of March. The predicted timeline for this review will take approximately one month to complete.
The review will include interviews with staff and all other stake holders. In addition an invitation is extended to
the parent body, staff and any external users or interested parties to liaise via email with the reviewing
consultant.
For those people interested in the review process who believe they can add value to our program, we suggest
they contact Mr. Denis Pontin at the following email address: [email protected]
Thank you for your assistance.

BOS IMPORTANT NOTICE: Special Provisions
Attention Parents of Year 10 and 12,
Following my School Assembly Announcement last week, I am following up on the issue of Special Provisions.
Special Exam Provisions in the School Certificate and HSC are PRACTICAL arrangements designed to help
students who couldn‟t otherwise make a FAIR attempt to show in an exam room what they know and are not
automatically granted year to year. Therefore, a student who has been granted special provisions in Year 10,
will need to reapply in Year 12.
The provisions granted are solely determined by how the students exam performance is affected. Students who
are often affected include those with a physical disability such as hearing or vision loss, dyslexia, diabetics, overly
anxious, distractibility as well as those suffering chronic fatigue syndrome and the like. Provisions provided may
include special coloured paper, larger font size, extra time, certain foods/drinks for diabetics, use of a reader,
rest breaks, separate supervision etc.
To apply for Special Provisions, an application form needs to be filled in online. The process starts with the
Director of Learning who will recommend the required documentation from relevant health professionals.
Students will also be required to undergo some testing such as submitting a written response.
Once an application is made, it is subject to BOS Special Provisions Panel who may approve or decline the
application.
Examinations are an important part of any academic programme and for some students, who suffer a
disadvantage in exam conditions; provisions should be sought for an equal opportunity to demonstrate their
knowledge and understanding within the set time.
For more information, please feel free to contact me via phone (ext 306) or via email ([email protected]).
Students who wish to seek special provisions (and have not already seen me) should see me in room 65 asap.
Regards,
Yooie Choi
Director of Learning
Coping with Disappointment
Whether it be after auditions for the Musical, selections
for sporting teams or academic exam results, our
students need to learn to cope with disappointment. Here
are a few tips for parents to support their children with
disappointment.
One major side effect of disappointment is frustration and its
associated anxiety. Closely related to coping with frustration is
coping with outright disappointment. Many people erroneously
believe that for children, disappointment should be avoided at all
costs. Everybody makes the A team, everybody gets the same
grade, everybody gets the lead in the musical, everybody is
included. There are several problems with this attempt to make
everyone “feel good about themselves”. First of all, it isn‟t fooling
anyone. Telling someone they‟ve done a great job when they
clearly haven‟t is not only insulting, but it tends to set a tone of
low expectations. Self esteem is built through mastery, not
through pretense. Secondly, it isn‟t grounded in reality. Giving
children false expectations about their abilities and skills is not
only dishonest, but unethical. Lastly, letting children face the
adversities of childhood, however painful, is necessary for
emotional growth. Children who haven‟t had practice developing
coping skills for disappointment fall apart later on when no one is
standing there ready to rescue them. Though the pains of
childhood are heartbreaking, they are learning experiences that,
when faced with the loving support of a trusted adult, help
prepare kids to deal with later life.
How Can You Help? Keep this in mind when dealing with your
kids. Don‟t rush to protect them from every little frustration and
disappointment, for fear of upsetting them or letting them “feel
bad.” Instead, offer support and encouragement. This will help
them work through the situation and their feelings about it.
Some steps which might help:
1. Stop listening to the voice in your head which is saying
“loser” or “You‟re not good enough”
2. Learn from the experience – that‟s what real life is about
3. Talk to your friends and family about your feelings (anger,
sadness, frustration)
4. Don‟t get childish, foolish or rude about your
disappointment – it makes it worse and ultimately affects
the way others see you.
5. Don‟t blame other people for your disappointment
6. Move on quickly
7. Get busy with school, sport, friends, music, commitments.

Future Problem Solving
I am seeking interest from
students in Yrs 7 to 11 who
want to be part of the School‟s
Future Problem Solving Club.
This club meets once a fortnight to tackle
future scenes that are impacting our world
today. Students learn and develop rigorous
problem solving techniques to solve many
global issues. The solutions are then posted
for review as part of a national and global
competition.
I encourage students who are interested in
global issues and want to develop their
discussion and problem solving skills to see
me for an application form. I am looking to
form two teams (Middle Yr7 to 9 and
Senior Yr10-11) teams to commence on
Wednesday 16th March.
NAPLAN and Yr10 Careers Testing
Parents will shortly receive a letter
outlining the upcoming NAPLAN and Yr10
Careers Testing Days. To help with
planning parents of Yr7, 9 and 10 are
reminded to keep the following days free
so their child is able to sit these important
tests.
The dates are set and will be held in Week
3
 NAPLAN: 10th May to 12th May
 Yr10 Careers Testing: 13th May
For more information regarding the above,
please contact me via phone or email

Best wishes,

At the KWS Fair on Saturday morning 5th March there will be a short information session and ceremony for
Year 9 Rite Journey students and their parents. This will take place on the stepped seating facing the main oval
at 10.00. It is very important that students be there and that they have at least one of their parents or an adult
of significance in their lives to accompany them. All Rite Journey staff will be in attendance and they look
forward to welcoming you and answering any questions you may have. The whole session will be finished within
about 20 minutes, so you can then enjoy the Fair with your children.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry. Then the Devil came to him and
said, “If you are God’s Son, order these stones to turn into bread… throw yourself down… all this I
will give to you… Then Jesus answered, “Go away Satan!” (Matthew 4: 2-3, 6, 9-10)
There are two observations to Jesus‟ temptations that always strike my heart. The first is
empathy for what I imagine to be Jesus‟ absolute exhaustion, frustration and eventual explosion:
“Go away Satan!” I‟ve felt that progression often enough in my own life. I usually end up
“Enough!” to two sons who bear an uncanny resemblance to those annoying brothers in the film
demanding
„Ocean‟s Eleven‟.
The second observation is the similarity between Jesus‟ yelling “Go away Satan!” in the wilderness to Jesus‟ brain-snap at
Peter, who tries to convince Jesus not to go to Jerusalem: “Get behind me Satan!” (Matthew 16:23). Peter was in fear of
what might happen to Jesus in Jerusalem, and rightly so as it turned out.
At both times Jesus would have been at his most vulnerable. And it is at these times when temptation strikes hardest.
However, Jesus had an inner strength that came from an absolute conviction in what he knew to be God‟s will. From this
foundation of knowledge and trust, he endured temptation to a point and then he took a definite, perhaps desperate,
stand against it.
He had an understanding of himself and a rock-solid trust in God. He faced extraordinary temptation to turn his back on
his convictions and beliefs. He stayed true to his convictions and beliefs because he was convinced, absolutely convinced
that those convictions and beliefs were truth.
That‟s how he did it. How do you stay true to what is right? What makes up your foundation; that which you can plant
your feet against temptation? In the past I‟ve tried to justify my actions with a foundation of my own construction only to
suffer the consequences of poor choices. For sake of my own happiness and of those around me, I had to change my
foundation.
Over the last two weeks I‟ve included in the Bulletin a morning prayer and an afternoon prayer that I use daily. In the
evening prayer below, consider praying the psalm as the formwork for your foundation.
(can you believe it has been a year!!!)

Notice of Motion:
Everyone is very welcome
P&F 2011 AGM
MOTION That the constitution of the Kinross Wolaroi School Parents’ and Friends’
Association amend clause 4. Membership to: “Any parent,.........Shall be a minimum of $30.00 per family.......”
BACKGROUND This motion is to formally update the constitution to reflect the motion resolved at the
2008 AGM where membership fees were set at $30.00 per family per annum.
Notice of Motion: EXTENSION OF TENURE OF OFFICE FOR EXECUTIVE POSITIONS.
MOTION That the tenure of office for executive positions of the Kinross Wolaroi School Parents‟ and Friends‟
Association be extended from two years to three years.
BACKGROUND The current constitution states that the tenure of office of President, Treasurer and Secretary shall
be limited to two years, unless extended by resolution at the AGM. It has been foreshadowed that this situation could
occur at the 2011 AGM and so it was resolved at the P&F general meeting on 9th February 2011 that a notice of motion
would be advertised to reflect this situation.
EVENING PRAYER
God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
PSALM (Psalm 15)
Antiphon: Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent and dwell on your holy mountain?
He who walks without fault;
he who acts with justice and speaks the truth from his heart;
he who does not slander with his tongue;
He who does no wrong to his brother or sister, who casts no slur on his neighbour,
who holds the godless in disdain, but honours those who fear the Lord;
he who keeps his pledge, come what may;
who takes no interest on a loan and accepts no bribes against the innocent.
Such a one will stand firm for ever.
Glory be…
Make our lives blameless, Lord. Help us to do what is right and to speak what is true,
that we may dwell in your tent and find rest on your holy mountain.
Antiphon: Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
MAGNIFICAT (Canticle of Mary, Luke 1:46 - 55)
Antiphon: My soul rejoices in the Lord.
My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
he looks on his servant in her lowliness; henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me. Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age, on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things, sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant,
remembering his mercy, the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his sons for ever.
Glory be…
Antiphon: My soul rejoices in the Lord.
PRAYERS OF THE HEART
LORD’S PRAYER
Father, grant me the grace to always ponder in my heart what I proclaim with my lips.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Club 3:16: Schools Christian Fellowship Group
You may have noticed some of the flyers around the school to let you know that Club
3:16 has started for the year. A number of students have started to come along. I
encourage students in all stages of their faith journey to come along to experience some
time-out from the hectic school week and reflect on real-life issues relating to a Christian
life. The group meets in Room 65, Friday Lunch times and as an added treat a cold
drink is provided! This term we are looking at the Lord’s prayer and why Christians ought to pray. I look forward
to seeing many new faces to join in this fellowship group.
Blessings, Yooie Choi

BREAKFAST FOR DAY STUDENTS IN THE DINING ROOM
With the increased demand for breakfast due to morning training for most sports, problems are arising
in a number of areas that need to be addressed. As parents may or may not be aware, early morning
breakfast for day students has been available for many years and an honesty system for charging has
been used. This system is now inadequate and will have to be changed.
In order for the kitchen staff to cater for both the boarders and the increasing number of day students,
the following system will apply from Monday, 21 February.
1.
Those day students wanting breakfast must advise the Accounts Office by 11.15 am the day
before breakfast is required. This will enable numbers to be provided to the kitchen for catering
purposes.
2.
If student‟s names are not on the roll provided to the kitchen, they will not be allowed to
enter the dining room. The onus for having breakfast provided by the school for day students will now
be the responsibility of each day student.
3.
Any day student who books breakfast and fails to turn up for that breakfast will still be charged, as the kitchen staff
will have to provide the meal based on their booking the day before.
4.
The cost for breakfast will be $7.70 (inclusive of GST).
A staff member from each sport will be in attendance in the dining room to manage the roll on a daily basis.
If there are any questions in relation to the new procedures, please contact the Bursar.
Follow the link as attached … http://www.kws.nsw.edu.au/kws-ancillary-services
Refinement to breakfast arrangements
As a result of the above changes, we have been reorganising breakfast arrangements on the boy‟s site to
accommodate girl boarders who participate in early morning sport and day students who require breakfast
prior to school. The arrangements in relation to booking for breakfast have not changed, however the sittings
for breakfast are as follows:
Sitting 1: Boarders only from Trathen House and Weymouth House
Sitting 2: Boarders only from Wolaroi House
Sitting 3 at 8.15 am: Girl boarders and day students
Unless day student‟s names are on the list held by the kitchen, they will not be allowed entry to the Dining
Room at 8.15 am. This system is now in place for the future and will ensure that the boarders food is not
eaten by students who have not made arrangements to be in the dining room for breakfast.

showcase the produce of their home towns and regions. There will be a
map of mainly NSW showing where our boarders live. If you have any donations of local produce please
contact Jenny Quigley on 68473152. Suggestions include olive oil, salad dressings, honey, eggs, fresh
produce etc.
 The Year 7 Information session will also be held on the morning of the P & F Fair, Saturday 5 March.

be an information session on Fair Day for Year 9 parents to learn more about the Yr 9 Rite Journey
programme.
 The Boarders Parents‟ Executive meeting will be held at 3.30pm – 4.30pm in the Staff Room on Fair
Day. I look forward to seeing some of our new boarding parents at this meeting. It is a great opportunity
for you to get involved in the boarding community at KWS. There will be drinks in the DPA foyer
following this meeting.
 Please note that your child‟s Boarding House requires a completed Exeat Form for their records and
to ensure that applications for leave are processed correctly. If you have not yet completed an Exeat Form
for your child, or you wish to alter your details, you can download the Exeat Form from our website, on
the Boarding Parents page.
 Parents of new boarders please note that Countrylink Boarders Passes are available for boarding
students who live in NSW. These passes entitle the boarder to free weekend and vacation travel to and
from the station or Countrylink coach stop nearest the student‟s home and school. If you are interested in
applying for a Boarders Pass for your child, please contact Sally Rattray-Wood at school on 6392 0325 for
further information, and to have the necessary forms sent out to you.

Mrs Bev West. Please forward your requests as early as possible by fax on 6392 0410, or email to Mrs
West‟s assistant, Ms Karen Tyrrell [email protected] It would be appreciated if you could also
include an email address on any faxes for return confirmation.
 Boarders who obtain academic leave must be aware that they are responsible for catching up with
any school work or homework they may have missed during the time that they are on leave.
 We are pleased to again offer some exciting exchange opportunities for our Year 9 and 10 Boarders.
Girls in Year 9 and 10 can apply for the boarding exchange to Strathallan School in Scotland. This exchange
is likely to take place in the Autumn term in Scotland. Boys in Year 9 and 10 can apply for a boarding

Last weekend, the entire rowing
team went to Canberra for the
two day ISRA Regatta.
Everyone competed in
at least one event,
most more, with
Heats and Semi-Finals occurring
on the Saturday, and exhaustive
Finals on Sunday. KWS rowing
had another good regatta with
many fine performances from all
members of the team, producing a
tally of 4 wins, 4 seconds and 9
thirds on the Finals day.
The Saturday Heats led to an
excellent 17 KWS crews rowing in
A Finals on the Sunday, with 13
wins in the Heats, 8 seconds and
five thirds. The Sunday morning
Finals started with some good
rows but no medals in the
Champion Schoolgirl Quad Scull,
and the Boys Eight. The Year 9 Boys Quad then rowed
well to gain third place in their A Final. In the Year 9
Girls Quad the KWS crew raced well in their Final but
did not gain a place.
The Girls Four raced well to defend their title in the
Championship Schoolgirls Four, to win the first KWS
gold medal. The two KWS crews in the Finals of the
Schoolboy Double Scull event managed places but were
not able to obtain medals, before Harriet Hain raced
very strongly to obtain a Bronze medal in the
Championship Schoolgirls Single Scull.
There were two KWS crews in the A Final of the
Championship Year 10 Boys Quad Scull and they raced
superbly led by the one stroked by Eden TaylorwoodRoe which came first, followed by the second KWS
Quad which took third place. In the Divisions of the
Year 8 Double Scull, Zac Whitehead and Dean Phillips
were second in their race. Briony Wills and Annelise
Corey came third in their B Final of the Schoolgirls
Double Scull.
There were three KWS participants in the A
Final of the Champion Schoolboy Single scull,
with Daniel Whitehead leading the way with a
good second place, followed by Tim Trethowan in third
and Matt Simpson in fourth place.
Three KWS crews participated in the Year 8 Boys
Quad scull, with the best result coming from the one
stroked by Zac Whitehead which came fourth in the A
Final. In the Year 10 Schoolboys Single Scull, KWS again
had three starters in the A Final, which was won most
impressively by Logan Brockman. The five KWS entries
in the Schoolgirl Year 8 Quad were unable to reach the
A Final, but two of them managed second and third in
the B Final.
The day finished with the Champion Schoolboy Quad
scull, with the KWS crew rowing strongly in the A Final
to win a Silver medal for second place.
Overall, Kinross Wolaroi School crews won one Open
Championship on the day, and performed very strongly
in the Year 10 Schoolboys with two wins and a third in
this division. As always, the support from the parents of
the Rowing Club made the organisation of towing,
shelter, food and drink during both days a seamless
operation.
During the coming week we will continue normal onwater training until Thursday 3rd March when the boats
will be loaded for the National regatta which runs from
the 7th to the 13th of March at West Lakes, Adelaide.
During the period of the Nationals, a modified training
programme will be run, the details of which will be
distributed through emails later in the week.

Oh what a night! Last Friday night the New Zealand Rugby
Tourists hosted a fantastic Trivia Night, raising over $7800 to
help send us on our way in the Easter School Holidays. A
special thank you to Paul Tierney for his entertaining
performance as Quiz Master and a number of our parents
who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to secure some
outstanding prizes. The parents had a ball, our students were
excellent ambassadors for KWS (selling tickets and mingling)
and the entertainment just kept on coming. I would also like
to thank Heather Wythes for her expert knowledge and
assistance to ensure the audio visual equipment was at the
ready. Mr Huon Barrett

KWS Firsts
KWS Firsts bounced back into the winners circle with a
comprehensive 80-35 demolition of Bandits on Monday
night. Opening up a 15 point lead in the first quarter the
boys made up for last week‟s poor shooting with some
great shots from everywhere on the court. With the full
team of 8 playing the game Coach Curran had his hands full rotating his
players. Everyone made a significant contribution with the lead extending at
half time to 21 points. At the end of the third quarter the Bandits trailed by
31 and in the final quarter pushed it out to a massive 45 points thanks to
great efforts from Simon (23 points), Dylan (11 points), Jack and Alex with
8 points each. Lucas, Brett and Nick also got on the score sheet and
showed great defensive and passing skills to set up a great win. Well done
boys.
KWS Bucks v CHS lost 25-6.
We were well beaten by a well drilled, taller opposition. We were unable
to convert any of our opportunities in the first half despite the fact that we
had several good passages of play. The second half was much better with
Robbie Blatch, Lachie Halloway and Alex Grivas prominent in attack. Ollie
Hood was solid in defence as was Sam Nicholson. Steve Collins was
responsible for some great outlet passes that resulted in some fast breaks.
Steve also just missed a three point attempt at the end of the game. Lots of
work to be done on shooting at training this week!
KWS Bucks vs OHS Hornets won 14-11
This was a victory built on a rock solid defence. Our work on zone defence
at training paid off as we shut out the opposition for long periods of time.
While our attack lacked a bit of sting we did enough to record our first win
of the season. Lachlan Halloway top scored with five baskets. This week we
will work on our attack, particularly driving into the key as we missed
several opportunities in this area of the game. Special congratulations to
Arthur Hancock who played his first game of basketball for the school. His
speed and controlled aggression will be important to the team this year.

WAS Tennis Report:
Saturday 26th February 2011
Last Saturday the ISA
Western Division
Singles Championships
were held at Wade
Park Tennis courts in
Orange.
David Selwood and
Talor Hamilton were
selected to represent
Kinross Wolaroi School in the Junior
Division, Jack Brand and Sam Brand in
the Intermediate Division and Luke
Petraglia and Oliver Webb in the
Senior Division.
Kinross Wolaroi School had its best
result in many years, with five of the 6
players making it through to the finals
of the main draw. David Selwood won
the Junior Division defeating Talor
Hamilton in the final, Jack Brand won
the Intermediate Division defeating
Sam Brand in the final, and Luke
Petraglia won the Senior Division
defeating the top seed from Saint
Stanislaus College in the final.
Furthermore, Oliver Webb won the
repechage event in the Opens Division.
Kinross Wolaroi School hasn‟t won
more than one division for many years,
and so to win all three divisions in the
same year is a wonderful achievement
for the School and for the individual
competitors.
This Saturday the ISA Western
Division Doubles Championships will
be contested, play starts at 9:00am.
Cricket News
The cricketing calendar has been very full for our boys as teams move to the business
end of the season. Team competitions point‟s tables are listed below and details of the
semi-final series for the ODJCA competitions. Many of our boys have also been
playing representative teams for Orange in the Mitchell competitions.
At the same time the Douglas Shield completion games have begun for the KWS 1ST
X1 who are endeavouring to retain the Douglas Shield. The team started well with a
strong win over Riverina Anglican School last week. (See the report below and photo on the website) This
week the team play St Pauls Grammar school on Thursday on the main oval. This game will provide a real
challenge for our young school team.

Match Reports Weekend 26th Feb
1ST
KWS
X1 v Cavaliers The old adage dropped
catches lose matches or make them very hard to win
was borne out in firsts on the weekend. KWS batted
first and posted a very competitive score of
152 off their forty overs. Jason Date 32,
Chris Kostoglou 39, Joel Taylor 32 led the
team with some very good aggressive
batting. The team with four new players
representing the firsts set about bowling the
premiership favourites and leaders out. Joel
Taylor got an early breakthrough and gave
the team good start. This were the good
news finished as bowlers saw their best
endeavours not rewarded as the team spilt some
difficult but catchable chances. Cavaliers showed little
mercy in capitalising on the poor fielding and went on
to record a good win. The fielding coach will need to
do a lot of work on Tuesday in preparation for the
vital Douglas Shield game on Thursday.
KWS 2ND X1 v CYMS MORONEYS Despite
the loss on first inning this was a tremendous fight back
on day two. The team were 110 behind the opposition
at the completion of the 1st innings and KWs was
staring down the barrel of an outright defeat. The team
then set about keeping their semi-final hopes alive by
posting a massive total of 8-304. This was an amazing
effort with Louis Kostaglou 38, Jarrod Frecklington 67,
Stan Alston 52, Nick Shillington 57 and Damian Hill 47
all taking to the oppositions bowling. The team need to
win the next two matches to make the finals but if they
can reproduce this form they will be strong
premiership contenders.
KWS Ifflands v Orange City KWS Ifflands won
the toss and sent Orange City into bat first. City got
off to a steady start losing their first wicket at 20. From
there on they never got going at all being all out for
108 of 25 overs, with their opening bat M. Macker (48
not out) and sundries being 22. Best of the KWS
Iffland bowlers were J. Frecklington (2/18), H. Jones
(2/10) and B. Nott (1/15).
When KWS went into bat they got off to pretty good
start losing their first wicket with H.Jones at 23 and
then W. Colless at 30. When we lost the wicket of J.
Marchinton at3/ 55 KWS1 looked to be in trouble, but
then J. Frecklington scored 40not out and J. Kini
scored 29. They passed Orange City 4 down for 113.
It was a great win giving KWS Iffland the Minor
Premiers for the Open Juniors
Kinross Masons v SJS Kinross Masons played
SJS last Saturday in a must win one day game (28
overs each) if the Masons have any chance of
making the finals. After winning the toss openers
Nick Lukins (25) and Damien Hill (12) established
a good partnership of 54 however they were
dismissed in the 12th and 13th overs and the
scoring rate fell with new batsmen and tight SJS
bowling. At 3 for 72 off 20 overs the Masons
needed some quick runs when new recruit Tom
Bristow came to the crease. Tom played himself in
for a couple of overs then smashed the SJS attack
to all parts of the field finishing 63 not out. The
Masons finished on 4 for 134 after their
allotted 28 overs. SJS started slowly with
accurate bowling from Tom Rolfe and
Damien Hill and were 2-45 after 14
overs however they had two Orange
first graders set and ready to open up.
The Masons Gus Griffiths (1-23),Stan
Alston (1-26) and Angus Suttor (1-12)
bowled well and captured wickets however SJS
had picked up their scoring rate and were on track
for victory. Then terrific bowling spells from Will
Proudford (1-18) and Tom Bristow slowed SJS
momentum which resulted in a one run victory to
the Masons. That‟s three wins in a row for the
Masons who are playing much better cricket in the
second half of the season.
Kinross Masons v Kinross Kostas Kinross
Masons played Kinross Kostas in a catch up 20/20
fixture that was scheduled over the summer
holidays. The Masons batted first with Nick Lukins
scoring 27 off the first 3 overs with a full range of
shots. Stan Alston then came to the crease and
destroyed the Kostas bowling attack weakened by
the back injury of Nick Shillington. Stan hit ten
sixes and five fours in a score of 111 to be the first
Kinross student to score a 20/20 century. Good
mates Tom Rummery and Ben Hogendyke were
shown no mercy with 19 and 20 scored off their
consecutive overs. With Stans dismissal Sam
Pratten (n.o. 17) and Tom Rolfe (n.o. 36) batted
aggressively to take the Masons total to 4 for 220.
With 11 runs an over needed for victory the
Kostas task was made more difficult with the
dismissal of top batsmen Shillington who was
bowled by Tom Rolfe in the second over. Lou
Kostaglou (33), Tom Rummery(15) and Lach
Corinth(13) got starts in their innings but didn‟t go
on. Sam Pratten (2-14), Angus Suttor (2-1) and
Tom Rolfe (2-17) were the best of the bowlers
however Angus Marchall also deserves special
mention bowling some tidy overs of slow/medium
pacers. Angus bowled with a nice upright seam
and wobbled the ball past good mate Jackson
Ryans bat resulting in some friendly banter. Some
highlights of the Kostas innings were Billy
Freemans six from the first ball he faced and the
quality of Lach Corinths pull shot from in front of
his nose that surprised him as much as the
opposition. The Kostas finished on 9 for 109 off
their 20 overs.
KWS 15’s v Orange City KWS 15‟s
played some highly disciplined cricket to
defeat Orange City on the weekend.
Orange City batted first and were
restricted to 105 from 28 overs thanks
to some excellent bowling from Charlie Harris,
Peter Crisp and Charles Litchfield that was well
supported by all of the boys in the field.
In reply, KWS was over half way to the target at
drinks thanks to some bold shot making from
Cameron Robinson who played some powerful
drives and pulls in his 36. He was well supported
by Charles Litchfield who played with a great deal
of maturity for his 47 not out and Charlie Harris
who played some exciting shots and finished with
an undefeated 16.
All in all this was a fine all round performance
from the boys though we still need to work on
some aspects of our out cricket (too many wides
and overthrows).
Thanks to Mr Crisp and Mr McClymont for
their help with umpiring and to all other parents
and supporters for their continuing support.
We hope to see you on Saturday for the first
day of our two day Semi Final against SJS at
Anzac 2.
Under 14’s: 118 for 5 v Orange City 103 for
5
Last time KWS played City, KWS lost by a handful
of runs but this time we reversed the result. The
KWS bowling quality was patchy, but boys such as
Cameron Williams and Josh Cheney were unlucky
to not take wickets. Conversely we were lucky
that 26 sundries did not lose us the game.
KWS captain, Sam Nicholls, was impressive in his
innings, retiring with a total of 41. He was well
supported by George Blyde 21, Cam Williams 17
and Sam Goddard 15 not out. Congratulations on
an excellent result.

the Orange Runners Club events on Sundays morning instead of Saturdays.
Students will be asked to make their selection this week and advise their Tutor. Additionally, please note
that if you are seeking an exemption from Winter sport 2011 then this must be sought by emailing Mr Hull
on [email protected]. You must clearly state the reasons for the exemption request. These will not be
considered if they are not submitted by Friday 11th March, This allows team numbers to be finalized and
entered in local competitions prior to the holidays. Late exemptions cannot be considered because they
disrupt this process. If you had exemption from summer sport you must reapply for an exemption from
winter sport. This allows the school to ensure accurate and up to date exemption records.
