Rainshow’r – A History of Innovation
I
nnovation has been a hallmark at Rainshow’r since the
beginning. Having learned about the toxic effects of chlorine
on hair and skin, George Ricci had an innovative idea that
removing chlorine from shower water would make for a more
healthful shower. This idea turned into 2 years of exploration
and research on various media and designs that would effectively remove chorine from shower water.
It was this discovery that launched Rainshow’r Manufacturing
in 1989, and the first shower filter was brought to market. It all
began with the 100 series filters and continued thru the
500 Series which is still in production and can be configured for a variety of water pressure applications. The positive
response to these products put Rainshow’r on the map as the
industry leader.
The break through came with the discovery of
KDF® 55. KDF® is a patented, non-lead alloy
of copper and zinc. Because of the molecular tension between these
two “noble” metals when
placed in an aqueous
solution, a galvanic
charge is created.
This charge reestablishes the electrochemical action which originally
separated chlorine from sodium in a brine solution.
This success drove Rainshow’r to innovate more technologically advanced shower filter systems for
maximum efficiency. Internal
structures of the filter
bodies were engineered for optimal
water distribution maximizing water
contact with
media. Dechlorinating media was
configured to maximize
efficiency and longevity; and special plastic compounds were
sought that would withstand water pressure demands making
for long lived anti-crack units.
Without this electro-chemical action it is impossible to convert
free chlorine into a simple, soluble and harmless chloride. KDF®
55 had traditionally been used to remove chlorine in large commercial drinking water applications. Rainshow’r was the first
to envision its use in a small body dechlorinating filter for use
in the shower. This innovation would create a new industry of
shower and bath water filtration.
The CQ 1000, introduced in 1994 was the culmination of all
this research. In addition it featured a replaceable cartridge
filter; and enhanced crystalline quartz in the filtration media,
which was used to create a lighter feel to the water. These inno(continued on page 4)

vations have made the CQ 1000 a best seller for over 16 years.
This combination of innovation and technical expertise was
called upon to customized shower filter applications for foreign
markets who had specific regional water needs.
The same innovative and engineering spirit was applied to the
Crystal Ball for the Bath which was introduced in 1998.
As the shower filter market grew there was a strong demand
for a product that would dechlorinate bath water. Making sure
there is sufficient contact time with the media was an important
consideration. The Crystal Ball for the Bath is a one of kind
product utilizing KDF filament and crystalline quartz with a very
easy to use product design.
Additional products were added to make for a great shower
experience. The Shower Riser helps make more space in the
shower, and The Bernoulli Shower head is an engineering
marvel creating a luxurious shower using very little water.
The New Century Shower Filter introduced in 2008 is the
premier state of the art unit, and the latest step in Rainshow’r
shower filter innovation. The tapered body is designed with a
water turbulating vortex at the inlet and outlet for even better dechlorination. This unit was designed in concert with the
Bernoulli (power shower) shower head, and they work together
for a wonderful shower experience.
Being an avid gardener George realized that Rainshow’r chlorine reduction technology would be of tremendous benefit to
the garden, protecting the beneficial microorganisms that live in
the soil. The Gard’n Gro was introduced in 1991 followed by
The Green Knight which was developed in 2006 for hydroponics use. The Gard’n Gro was nominated by a Rainshow’r
dealer for an MGA Green Thumb award. This market is growing
by leaps and bounds.
Innovation does not stop with filters, in 2009 Rainshow’r was
recognized by a National Magazine for its unique recycling program that turns spent KDF into a reusable bronze alloy.
Twenty-two years later an innovative notion has become a big
idea. Since Rainshow’r opened is doors in 1989 the world has
been taking better showers and enjoying chlorine free baths.
Gardeners are also benefitting from Rainshow’r’s innovative
approach to the reduction and removal of chlorine, the most
common toxic element to which we are exposed daily.

with the solution—a set
of risers that allow you to
install one of Rainshow’r’s

your shower head.
The straight section nipple replaces your standard shower arm. Simply
attach your filter to the nipple which places the filter in a horizontal
position. You then attach the 45° swivel collar to the filter using the
patented swivel action to position the angle as required. Now you
can screw the shower head on the elbow. The Shower Riser™ will
raise the average height by 5 to 6 inches.
