Well, folks, the rainy weather is finally upon us, and after
months of drought conditions, we are all very thankful. Those
glorious rains hit just as we were kicking off this year’s Parade of
Homes, of which we were a participant. I know many of you had
heard Ray or I say that we would never again participate in a Parade of Homes, and so you were surprised when we decided to
enter. This year’s circumstances were different, and when asked
by GSABA to participate, we debated for quite some time. After
much consideration, we voted to help the organization which
does so much for the building industry, and with the help of many
dedicated Stadler team members, we built an amazing home that
we are very proud of.
With such an exciting ending to summer, we all leapt
into the busiest time of year. School has begun, and that means
the kids are settling into their new routines, and as we push further into fall, we begin to approach the holidays. The weather
begins to cool, and we all start to look forward to events which
are memorable for the entire family. A silly costume, a great
meal, seeing family members who have been sorely missed, presents underneath the tree, and the excitement that comes from a
young child’s face are all images that flash through our minds
when thinking of the months to come and the holidays they host.
I hope we all remember, as those busy times approach, that this
time is when memories are made. Hopefully we aren’t all too
busy that we miss the fun in participating in the memories while
they are happening! From the Stadler family, to your family, we
hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, a very merry
Christmas and a happy New year!
We have

Jane Burks was born in Blanco, Texas, and except for a few years spent in North Carolina and San Antonio, she has always called Blanco home. Known for it’s lavender festival during the month of June, Blanco is a quaint Texas town 30-some miles north of San
Antonio.
Jane joined the crew at Stadler Custom Homes in August of 2004 as our Office Manager
& Bookkeeper, and she is the glue that helps the Stadler office run like a well-oiled machine. Recently, Jane was honored with the Stadler Employee of the Quarter for all her
hard work and all that she does for the company. Prior to working for Stadler, Jane
worked for Partners in Building of Austin as their bookkeeper.
Jane is married to Dale Burks, and together, they have a total of five children , four girls
and one boy. They also have a total of five grandchildren, three boys and two girls,
whom are the reason behind their grandparents’ smiles. Spending time with their children and grandchildren are a number one priority for the Burks, and the entire family
can often be found down at the coast in a home they have there. Their home at the
coast happens to be Jane’s favorite place to vacation, relax and enjoy time away from
the daily grind of the home building industry. The coast is also the location of Jane’s
favorite restaurant, Los Comales, a Mexican restaurant in Rockport, which serves the
most amazing food and is known for their fresh ingredients.
When Jane isn’t at work, or spending time at the Coast, she enjoys hunting, fishing and
canning (her pickles are a fought after treat in the Stadler office) or spending time with
her Jack Russell/Daschund friend, Morgan.

Just a short distance from
the River Walk, stands one
of our Nation’s most wellknown historical landmarks . . . A "must see" for
all who come to San Antonio, and those of us whom
already live here . . . The
Alamo!
More than 2.5 million people a
year visit the 4.2 acre complex
known worldwide as "The
Alamo." Most come to see the
old mission where a small
band of Texans held out for
thirteen days against the Centralist army of General Antonio
López de Santa Anna. Although the Alamo fell in the
early morning hours of March
6, 1836, the death of the
Alamo Defenders has come to
symbolize courage and sacrifice for the cause of Liberty.
The memories of James
Bowie, David Crockett, and
William B. Travis are as pow-
A L A M O
erful today as when the Texan
Army under Sam Houston
shouted
"Remember
the
Alamo!" as it routed Santa
Anna at the battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. The
Alamo has been managed by
the Daughters of the Republic
of Texas since 1905. Located
on Alamo Plaza in downtown
San Antonio, Texas, the
Alamo represents nearly 300
years of history. Three buildings - the Shrine, Long Barrack Museum and Gift Museum - house exhibits on the
Texas Revolution and Texas
History. Visitors are welcome
to stroll through the beautiful
Alamo Gardens. Visitors to-
day can enter the Alamo
grounds from several directions. Five gates permit access to the complex. Many
people, however, prefer to
first enter the old church or
modern Shrine. Inside the
old church are exhibits dis-
playing artifacts associated with
the Alamo Heroes: Travis’ ring,
Crockett’s buckskin vest, a flintlock rifle used in the battle; a
period Bowie knife, and more.
An arrangement of flags represent the states and nations from
which the defenders came.
Somewhat disguised by this serene setting is the fact that this
building was the scene of fierce
fighting during the 1836 battle.
Hours of operation:
Monday-Saturday
9:00AM-5:30PM
Sunday
10:00AM-5:30PM
Location: The Alamo is located at
300 Alamo Plaza in downtown
San Antonio, Texas.
There is no admission cost to visit
the Alamo, and parking is available
at several pay lots in the vicinity of
the Alamo.

INTERESTING FACTS
The Unique Name
Anaqua Springs Ranch is a unique,

pristine example of nature in all of
its splendor. When considering a
name for such a wonderful place,
only one word would do. The word
Anaqua has as much meaning as
Anaqua Springs Ranch has beauty.
This word, with its rich history and
numerous definitions, provides the
perfect identity for this land that
offers limestone bluffs, natural
spring-fed creeks, waterfalls, majestic hilltops and lush wooded valleys.
The Anaqua Tree
The Anaqua tree (Ehretia anacua) is
an evergreen tree, native to central
Texas. It grows no further north
than San Antonio and is best known
for its rough leaves which are similar in feel to that of a cat's tongue. It
produces white flowers in spring
and small, sweet pumpkin-colored
fruit. The Anaqua is often confused
with the Live Oak because of its
shapely trunk. The Anaqua tree is
also known as the "Knock away" or
"Sandpaper" tree.
The Anaqua Indians
The Anaqua ("Iguaces") Indians, a
Tonkawa group, were named after
the Anaqua tree, which was abundant in South Texas. The Anaqua
would eat the orange berries produced by the tree and use its strong
wood for much of their construction.
The Indians would sit below the
Anaqua tree and meditate, believing
the tree held healing properties.
Anaqua, Texas
Anaqua is believed to have been
the first named site in Texas. It is
located on the San Antonio River,
twenty miles south of Victoria in
Victoria County. The locale was also
named after the Anaqua trees. The
first chapel was built there as early
as 1820, and Anglo settlers came
after 1836. These locals used the
wood from the Anaqua trees for
posts, wheel spokes, axles, yokes,
and tool handles. Anaqua became a trading post for many years. A post office,
which at first was simply a box nailed to a
big Anaqua tree, was established in 1852.
Anaqua also erected a rural school. In
1906 focus was drawn away from Anaqua.
Five miles east, the St. Louis, Brownsville
and Mexico Railway established a station
at McFaddin and the Anaqua post office
closed.

Lending a Helping Hand . . .
The holiday season is often a time when to
focus not only on our own families and
friends, but also on those throughout our
community that are in need. This year,
Stadler Custom Homes wants you to be
aware of several causes that support a variety of needs in our local community: The
San Antonio Battered Women’s Shelter, the
Heartland’s Children’s Home, St. PJ’s Children’s Home, and the Children’s Tumor
Foundation. Listed below you will find a
some brief information on each of these
charitable organizations and their website
link.. Stay tuned for further information that
will be distributed during December on how
you can partner with Stadler Custom Homes
in supporting one of these causes this holiday season.
THE BATTERED WOMEN & CHILDREN’S
SHELTER of BEXAR COUNTY:
The mission of Family Violence Prevention
Services Inc. is to break the cycle of violence
and to strengthen families, by providing the
necessary tools for self-sufficiency through the
delivery of emergency shelter, transitional
housing, education, effective parenting education, and early intervention with children and
youth.
ww.FVPS.org
THE HEARTLAND’S CHILDREN’S HOME:
Located in Boerne, TX, Heartland Children's
Home was founded by Mike and Ruth Schwartz
who have been the loving foster parents for
more than 140 children over the past 19
years. They, along with their daughter Dawn
and several round the clock nurses, provide care for up to twelve medically fragile
children at any given time. These children
suffer from complications of shaken baby
syndrome, prenatal drug exposure, HIV and
AIDS, and other diseases and disabilities.
The children are often dependent on feeding tubes, ventilators, and medication for
survival. Many of the children are disabled
because of abuse or neglect by their birth
parents.

ST. PJ’S CHILDREN’S HOME:
St. Peter-St. Joseph Children’s Home was
originally founded as an orphanage by the
Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in
1891. Today St. PJ’s is both a home to
children who have suffered as victims of
sexual and emotional abuse, neglect, poverty and broken homes and it is a community counseling and service center for families in crisis. St. Peter-St. Joseph Children’s
Home continues today as an independently
governed 501(c) 3 non-profit agency.

CHILDREN’S TUMOR FOUNDATION:
The Children's Tumor Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) medical foundation, dedicated to improving the health and well
being of individuals and families affected

by the neurofibromatoses (NF). The mission of The Children's Tumor Foundation
is to:
1. Encourage and support research and
the development of treatments and cures
for neurofibromatosis types 1 and 2,
schwannomatosis and related disorders
(hereafter collectively referred to as "NF");
2. Support persons with NF, their families
and caregivers by providing thorough,
accurate, current and readily accessible
information;
3. Assist in the development of clinical
centers, best practices and other patient
support mechanisms (but not including
direct medical care) to create better access to quality healthcare for affected
individuals; and,
4. Expand public awareness of NF to
promote earlier and accurate diagnoses
by the medical community, increase the
non-affected population's understanding
of the challenges facing persons with NF,
and encourage financial and other forms
of support from public and private
sources.

T i p s :
If you like to garden, great gardens start with great soil! The most important component for successful gardening is proper soil
preparation. Most of our soils are heavy clay, alkaline and low in organic matter. As a general rule, work into the top 12” of soil, up
to 1 cubic yard of topsoil or compost for every 100 square feet. If we provide healthy soil then the result is usually healthy, pest-free
plants.
Good, organic mulch is an essential component for gardening. Blanketing the soil with 2-3” of mulch improves plant growth and
flowering by conserving valuable moisture, suppressing weed growth and helping capture rainfall by preventing rapid run-off.
Prepare new planting beds in the fall rather than the spring to take advantage of cool, dry weather. The amended soil will have a
chance to settle over the winter and you will have time to design your new space. When spring arrives you are ready for planting
and can then take advantage of timely rains.
Weeds are best eradicated before planting by using the least toxic, shortest-lived herbicides, as sparingly as possible. Fight the perennial weeds prior to planting, before they can cause tremendous trouble later. You can keep annual weeds to a minimum by handweeding and prevent more weeds by simply keeping seed from maturing by mowing or a weed whip.
The best way to handle insects is to do nothing at all and let nature take its course. 1% of all garden insects are pests. Plant a diverse
mix of plants in your landscape rather than large block plantings of a single species. If plants are insect or disease magnets then simply replace them with plants that are adapted to our climate. Usually pest problems are a result of plants not getting the site conditions they require to grow their best.
It is beneficial to water your garden infrequently after it is established, otherwise the plants that survive will be those that require
extra water and the ones that can live on simply rainfall rotted because they got too wet. As a general rule supply up to 1” of water
a week to your beds unless it receives a soaking rain of 1” or more. In a typical 5 month growing season your landscape will only
need to be watered a half dozen times.
Prevention is the key component when maintaining your landscape. Plan on walking through your garden at least once a week to
pull weeds, dead head spent flowers or to monitor plant condition. A single weed can mature in a few weeks, often scattering hundreds of seeds for next year’s crop.
You can avoid yearly pruning and many pest problems by proper plant selection and placement. Problems occur when plants are
forced to grow in conditions they were not adapted to grow in.

ABOUT CASCADA AT CANYON LAKE
In February 2007, Stadler & Leatham Development, LLC was created as a new development company focused on developing high
quality communities into the San Antonio region. The company was founded by Ray Stadler, Deron Stadler and Bron Leatham. Cascada at Canyon Lake is the first custom home community they are developing from the ground up.
A Stadler & Leatham community, Cascada at Canyon Lake carries on a tradition that began 15 years ago with the formation of
Stadler Custom Homes. Through the relentless pursuit of complete customer satisfaction, Stadler Custom Homes has earned the
praise and recognition of local residents and the building community. Today, with great pride, these high standards are evident in
the development of Cascada at Canyon Lake.
Promoting the finer things in life, Cascada at Canyon Lake was designed and planned to accommodate the needs of a luxurious and
active lifestyle. This pristine location boasts an array of natural attractions while allowing room for spacious home sites. Combined
with state-of-the-art amenities and precise land planning, Cascada at Canyon Lake effortlessly blurs the line between the old and
the new to arrive at a place that is simply extraordinary.
In response to the overall slowdown in the economy, Cascada @ Canyon Lake is offering a tremendous savings and value to those who are seriously looking to take advantage of this historic buyer’s market. They are offering an incredible opportunity for buyers to purchase an acreage home site for as little as $35,900—that’s a savings of up
to 30%!
Additionally, any land owner at Cascada who contracts to build a home with Stadler
Custom Homes within 90 days of their lot purchase will be eligible for a 50% rebate on
the cost of their home site. That’s right—they’ll give you back 50% of the cost of the
home site, if you build with Stadler Custom Homes within 90 days!
If you have been to the Texas Hill Country, but you haven’t visited Cascada @ Canyon
Lake, then you haven’t seen the best the Hill Country has to offer!

2009 TerraMont Parade of Homes
“It was with some initial hesitation, that we participated in our 7th Parade of Homes, including the Concept Home tour in Cordillera Ranch.
With a short window of time for completion for such a detailed home,
the home built was our third smallest Parade Home completed to date.
Nick Bailey, Deron Stadler, Jay Richmond, Andrew Coughlin, and Catherine Resnick teamed together to keep the home on schedule, and
made sure it was finished for the show with the level of quality that is
expected in a Stadler home. On a personal note, this is the first time I
have been able to stay away from the home until the last month. This
enabled me to continue with my normal job and meet with our homeowners that we are currently building for. My hat’s off to them, and
the job they did! Also, a huge thanks to the other individuals on the
Stadler team and at Class, Covers and Color’s that pitched in during
those last few weeks to make sure it all came together. We were very
proud of the quality of our home and its level of attention to detail.
During this Parade, we received honors for Best Elevation & Best Landscaping, and we appreciate the acknowledgements that were bestowed
by our peers in the industry. Additionally, during the Parade we were
very pleased to be able to talk to many new people that are planning to
build new homes. From that standpoint, the Parade was a huge success, and we hope it leads to more opportunities to help people’s custom home building dreams come to reality.
Once again, thank you to all the employees and trade partners that
helped make this year’s Parade home a success!”
Ray Stadler
