EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS 2010 Weekly Press Release ENMU (0-0) at Adams State, vs Colorado-Colorado Springs 2009 Season Finale Alamosa, Colo. • ENMU Soccer Field Greyhounds Ready to Open Seventh Season Agains Colorado teams Opening Up The Greyhounds are 3-2-1 in season openers over their six season, opening successfully at University of the Southwest last season. ENMU also has won three of its last four season openers. Last season, Kal Hebert tallied the first goal for the Hounds, while Emerson Rodrigues scored first in 2008. Inside the Series The Greyhounds are 2-0 against Adams State, picking up both victories last season. In September, Eastern picked up a 5-1 win at home and followed with a 3-0 road victory in October. Eastern has a 2-1 record against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and has won the last two meetings. Last September, the Hounds picked up a 2-1 overtime road win, when Diego Santos punched a Kal Herbert corner kick past the far post. Eastern also picked up a 4-2 win early in the 2007 season. UCCS picked up a 2-1 win in Colorado Springs, Colo. on September 29, 2006. The Hounds finished third in the SSC and were able to attain a #5 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II South Central poll (September 30, 2008). Coach Muñoz’s Greyhounds also recorded historic first-time wins over conference rivals Northeastern State University and nationally-ranked West Texas A&M University. In his first season, Muñoz coached three Greyhounds who were selected to the All-SSC team, including the team’s leading scorer, sophomore Emerson Rodrigues, who was a 1st Team All-SSC honoree. Senior Michael James and freshman Luis Castañeda were 2nd Team All-SSC selections. While attaining his master’s in sports administration at ENMU, Muñoz served as the graduate assistant coach for the Greyhounds in the first two years of the program’s existence. Prior to returning to Eastern New Mexico Universtiy, Muñoz was the Muñoz’s Resume Year(s) Job Title 2008-present ENMU Men’s Soccer Head Coach 2007 Midland Lutheran College Women’s Soccer Head Coach 2007 Sioux Falls Spitfire (Semi-pro team) player and assistant coach ceived a bachelor’s degree in physical education at William Wood University where he was a First Team All-American Midwest Conference selection. Currently, Muñoz has an Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA. Muñoz and his wife Natalie live in Portales with her eight-year-old son, Nolan. head women’s soccer coach at Midland Lutheran College where the Warriors recorded one of their best seasons (2007) in the program’s history on the way to a 13-2-4 overall record and the NAIA Region V tournament final. The team set school records for the longest undefeated streak and the least amount of losses in a single season. In 2006, he served as both the men’s and women’s assistant coach at MLC. Coach Muñoz is a former semiprofessional player in the Canadian Professional Soccer League (North York Astros) and the Premier Development League (Sioux Falls Spitfire).
