Summer 2014 Operations/ Mini-Rotational Intern Robert Ford Rotation: Highlights - Outside Sales - Ride along with Joe Porreca - International Chemical Company - Experienced “sales calls” and the importance of customer-salesman relations - Customer Service - Shadowed Tina Loux for a day - Able to make CS calls and interact with buyers - Placed real orders for chemicals 2 Rotation: - Human Resources - Given the assignment of a white paper - World class college recruiting - Worked with Phil and Jill - Researched specific companies' strategies and techniques - How can Univar learn and apply these techniques 3 White Paper 4 White Paper 5 Operations Final Project Overview/Goal - Assist the Operations Management team through data collection - Produced data in a digestible form with a simplistic approach - Completed through various vehicles such as: - Microsoft Excel - Presentations - Flow Charts - Tasked with the goal of identifying operational efficiencies and areas of opportunity - Completed through various methods of research, data analysis, and creative thinking 6 Operations Highlighted Projects - Pallet Research - Given the task to research the current pallets used in MV warehouse - Would it be beneficial to switch from 48x48 pallet to 40x48 pallet - Is it possible? 7 • Cost savings of upwards to $20,000+ / year • Time saved from switching drums From 48x48 to 40x48 8 •Racking system, the third spot in is too big for a 40x48 pallet •Drums would hang off of the smaller pallets by at least 3 inches •Stacking of pallets, non-flammable drums would not be able to be stacked 4 high. Flammables may not be able to exceed being stacked 3 times •Can’t carry two pallets on forklift when moving •Already a problem with lack of space. With the reduced amount able to be stacked and carried on a forklift at once, would cause more problems •Rollers to and from fill rooms - Drums would hit the bumper. Possible fix to turn pallets other way. However then pallets would hit bumper and cause drums to shift 9 •Most Important con: SAFETY. Cannot compromise Operations Highlighted Projects - Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) - Worked on current action items in preparation for the upcoming audit - Identified allergens in food grade items in MV warehouse - Helped form flow chart of order processing for MV warehouse 10 Operations - Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) 11 **Product Name **Product Short Name Product Family Name Color Key GRINDSTED GUAR 200 GRINDSTED GUAR 200 GUMS Food Repack CITRIC ACID 50% CITRIC 50% FOOD CITRIC ACID SOLUTION Allergen List METHOCEL K4M 22.7KG METHOCEL K4M METHOCEL FOOD GRADE MYVACET 9-08K MYVACET 9-08K EMULSIFIERS MYVEROL 18-85K MYVEROL 18-85K FD GD PWDR EMULSIFIERS CALCIUM CHLORIDE FLAKE CAL CHL FOOD CALCIUM CHLORIDE FD GR KELCOGEL F KELCOGEL F GELLAN GUMS DEXTRIN STADEX 79 DEXTRIN STADEX 79 CORN STARCH: DEXTRIN NEOBEE 1053 NEOBEE 1053 FATTY ESTERS OLEIC ACID CA 1300 OLEIC CA 1300 FOOD OLEIC ACID MYVEROL 18-85K MYVEROL 18-85K FD GD PWDR EMULSIFIERS METHOCEL F220-MG METHOCEL F220-MG METHOCEL FOOD GRADE CITRIC ACID 50% CITRIC 50% CITRIC ACID SOLUTION METHOCEL K100M HB FULLER METHOCEL K100M HB FULLER METHOCEL FOOD GRADE GFSI Flow Chart 12 Operations Morrisville (MV) Dispatch Log - Bulk Shipment Research - Assisted management with key points on bulk delivery weight data - March 2013 to July 2014 (present day) - 192 of 386 (50%) Univar bulk shipments between March & June took less than 35K per shipment - 112 (29%) of these shipments were under 20 K pounds - 15 Key accounts were identified as potential opportunities 13 MV Warehouse Bulk Dispatch Data Robert Ford Operations Intern Date Customer Product Quantity Order # Carrier 3/3/2014 Professional Disp ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL 99.7% 50,000 MV690830 Carrier 3/3/2014 Professional Disp ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL 99.7% 50,000 MV690831 Carrier 3/3/2014 Robertet Flav PROPYLENE GLYCOL 46,000 MV690652 Carrier 3/3/2014 Philadelphia Energy METHANOL 1,500 MV691495 3/3/2014 Global Pkg BLEND 90/10 NPAL/NPAC 10,155 MV691466 Univar 3/3/2014 Ashland Spec PROPYLENE GLYCOL 30,000 MV691527 Univar 3/3/2014 Carlisle HEPTANE CMG 40,000 MV690401 Univar 3/3/2014 Bemis BLEND BEMIS NP ACETATE IPA 80/20 43,001 MV690984 Univar 14 Univar Operations Highlighted Projects - Late order tote shipment data - Analyzed and collected 2 months of late order shipment data - Extracted data from repack prospective - Identified IBC issues - Tote issues have been corrected 15 Received before shipped - Still Late Ship Varian SOTy Ship Bul Date ce pe Via k 3/28/201 4 -1 1 VWRB Y 3/29/201 4 -2 1 FEDG N 3/31/201 4 -101 1 VWRP Y 3/31/201 4 -3 4 VWRP N 3/31/201 4 -3 4 UPSS N 3/31/201 4 -31 4 VWRP N 3/31/201 4 -10 4 VWRP N 3/31/201 4 -3 1 FXFE N 3/31/201 4 -5 1 ODFL N 3/31/201 4 -3 1 CRST N 4/1/2014 -7 4 VWRP N 4/1/2014 -4 4 ABFS N 4/1/2014 -35 4 PYLE N 4/1/2014 -25 4 PYLE N 16 OrdQty SO# 50,000.
