Devils getting ready to ‘Rock’
Club opens its first training camp in Newark

At this time a year ago, Prudential Center
was receiving its finishing touches in preparation for a late-October opening night.
With the Devils headed into their second
season at the Newark hockey palace, the facility
is set to host the team’s 2008 training camp.
It’s another first for “The Rock,” which is
one of just two NHL arenas with a practice
rink, and the only building with dual locker
rooms/training facilities.
Bolstered by the signings of former Devils
Brian Rolston and Bobby Holik, the club is
looking to improve on its second-place Atlantic
Division finish of a year ago (46-29-7, 99 pts.)
and secure a 12th straight playoff berth.
New faces at training camp include: goaltender Jeff Frazee (‘05 draft); defensemen Tyler
Eckford (‘04 draft), Jay Leach (free agent), Matthew Spiller (f.a.), and Harry Young (‘08 draft);
and forwards J.S. Berube (‘08 draft), Kevin
Cormier (trade), Patrice Cormier (‘08 draft),
