who we are
It is hard to account for all of them, however, 17 years have
passed since we built our first Badlands® Back pack. So
much has changed since then, yet much more of the equation is exactly the same. Yes, we sell a lot more product
and the company has grown significantly in other aspects
as well. Although, all said and done it is still a group of
very passionate people who eat, sleep and drink what we
do. Nobody is above picking up the phone to listen to a
customer – unless they are mad, then we draw straws…
We all still gather together in the design room, like kids at
Christmas to see what the new prototypes look like. Then
fight like cats and dogs over who gets to test what. Yep,
much the same as it was 17 years ago.
The thing that has changed most, is our desire to take
what we have learned over the years and apply it-not only
to how one carries gear, but how people interact with it.
This is vitally important, because this relationship can
enhance or diminish the entire hunting experience. Our
desire has led us to the equipment that hands down,
you interact with more than any other… Your hunting
apparel. That is why, throughout the pages of this catalog
you will see an entirely new line of Badlands® apparel,
which demonstrates exactly how we think this interaction
should be defined.

The most important element to staying warm is staying dry. The Badlands® Bio-thermic™
base layer pulls moisture away from your body, helping to regulate your core temperature. It is made from a multi-stretch polyester, which allows a full anatomical range of
motion resulting in a chronically comfortable base. The fabric we use has been impregnated with the most effective anti-microbial system available. It reduces funk and adds
to the life of the garment.
Now that you are dry, it is time to hold on to your body’s heat with the best insulating layers ever built. Our own independent laboratory studies rated them at somewhere around
R-One Million. Hell, if you covered your attic in this stuff you could go all winter long
without firing up the furnace. All Badlands®' Mid Weight Insulation and outer layers offer
superior tailoring with articulated shoulders, knees and elbows; which greatly enhances
your ability to stay active and move freely.
So, we've kept you dry with the base layer, and retained your body heat with some gnarly
insulation. However, there are three parts to obtaining functional fusion; the third is to
keep out the cold. No SH#$*$ you say… Although, this may sound obvious it is far more
difficult than you may expect. It is actually three challenges in one. We conquer each one
of these through the use of several unique materials which stop the wind and rain, and
allow moisture to “vapor out” through a microporus membrane.

Sometimes a technology can work too well. Take
for example our proprietary Fusion Fleece. By adding multiple density fabric into each of the jacket
panels, we were able to squeeze far more BTU’s
from our Impact Jacket than any other product on
the market.
The problem was it was just too warm for many
situations. As often times it goes, the simplest solution can be the best. So, we cut the sleeves off. The
result was the Kinetic Vest. Brilliant….

Ok Sparky, we got news for you, man has been killing big animals for allot longer than “wonder fabrics have been around” . As a matter of fact, we think the
first Miracle textile was- a loin cloth woven with a huge desire to live. And the guy in the magazine: he actually killed that deer because of a great deal of
persistence, passion and time spent honing his skills. (not to mention, one Hell of an understanding wife)
Boiling this down to a ‘reality that applies to our lives’ would read something like this:
1) Deer are definitely more pressured and thus have evolved their survival skills since the days of loin cloth scent suppression. There is evidence that the
Ancients referred to it as L.C.S-1
2) Our survival has shifted from outsmarting game, to outsmarting ‘the man’ ( that little thing, called a job..) The latter issue, unfortunately, prevents us from
spending too much time honing our predatory skills. So we need every advantage we can get.
Badlands is in the of business providing advantages- and our 4X Apparelis the new standard .
There are three ways you can effectively reduce odor.
One: treating the fabric with a chemical bath or spray,
which contains antimicrobial agents or silver. Two: use
materials which actually have odor preventing qualities based on their own chemical or Biological make up.
Three: scent absorbing carbon. All of them have their
pros and cons.
Most companies are content with “The Easy Road”…
Spray some secret sauce on the fabric surface and call it
good. BTW: Badlands is not most companies.. Thus, in
the spirit of ‘more’s better’ we decided to attack the situation from multiple fronts.
STEP 1 & 2
All Badland’s 4-X fabric
is coated Silver.
Step One: All Badland’s 4-X fabric is coated Silver. It has been known for
centuries that this precious metal attacks and destroys microbes and bacteria.
As a matter of fact, Ancient people knew that if they stored their food in Silver
containers it would not spoil. The Fact is; Silver works- and allot of companies
use it. The other fact is; these companies apply a thin coating on the fabric
surface and call it good.

Step Two: At Badland’s we have been known to show off a bit. We didn’t think
that just spraying the outside was good enough. Therefore, once the fabric has
dried, we roll it up and send it though the machine again, adding another coat
to the underside, the part which directly makes contact with your skin, where
“funk” originates in the first place. Without doing this second coat on the inside microbes are allowed to get through the proverbial front door, where they
may be stopped by the surface coating, however they have already penetrated
the fabric by then, which can lessen the useful life of the garment.
Excessive ? Of course. This is Badlands we just can’t help ourselves. This two
sided approach ensures beyond a doubt, that none of them little ‘microbial
buggers’ live long enough to get a girlfriend – no less raise a family…
Step Three: Using a technique we call Bio-Mapping we determine the areas
where the human body sweats and produces the most odor. In these key
locations, we chose Fabrics made from Bamboo and Coffee. “What and What,
you say ?” Yes, Bamboo and Coffee have an incredible ability to kill bacteria
and absorb odors. When converted into fabrics, these organic materials also
produce some of the softest, best wicking, environmentally friendly textiles
known to man. The fact is: Since they occur as a natural property, even over
time, neither Coffee or Bamboo will lose their ability to perform vital duties.
Unlike topical sprays and carbon, which degrade with each wash. Who else
but Badlands would take scent containment all the way to an ‘Atomic level’ ?
Step Four: All this is very intriguing and actually works quite well. Except for
one S.N.A.F.U. Jackets and underwear, are not air tight. Therefore, the odor
which air carries while escaping from your sleeve cuffs, neck and torso areasends a nasty message to animals- that “things are not going to end well”. This
problem can never be stopped completely. However, we have devised a little
method called Scent Gasketing. In theory, by lining these escape routes with
our Bamboo and Coffee fabrics, much of the air is “scrubbed” as it leaves the
garment thus managing odor more effectively.
There you have it, The Badland’s 1-4 punch to scent containment. Simply put,
nobody in the industry has thought about or attacked it from as many angles
as we have. So when you pick up that other brand, just ask yourself- “are you
feeling lucky?”

We have found the real issue with the Rev Pant,
lies in the fact that you will want to wear them everywhere, a real point of contention with some of
the people around here. As their wives are making
them change into street clothes on a regular basis..

After six years of bending, twisting and testing, we
are proud to say there is a new Sheriff in town, a
fresh Mother Ship, a Nuevo Grande Ambre (Spanish
for ‘Big Kahuna’) around here. We do not bestow
that title loosely -it must be earned….
With it’s Mountaineering DNA and ability to haul
anything your legs would carry- the old Badland’s
4500 was the pack of choice with more Guides and
Western Hunters than any other on the planet. So

started as “The Bobcat” then “Wildcat” along with

on it. The Kali (Goddess of Hunting) was designed
to bridge the physiological differences between
men and women. This includes a shorter torso,
