Gort Golf Club scoring on and off the course
GORT Golf Club, founded in 1924,
is nestled on the edge of the world
famous Burren region and on the
route of the Wild Atlantic Way. This
Par 71, 18-hole championship golf
course. Gort Golf Club is a spectacular course set in 140 acres of picturesque parkland full of challenging fairways, impeccable greens and
with top class clubhouse facilities.
With its breath-taking beauty of the
rolling Clare Hills and historical
Coole Park, this course will inspire
you from beginning to end where it
promises visitors a unique golf and
club experience.
Designed by Christy O’Connor
Jnr, this exceptional championship
course offers golfers the world over
the opportunity to compete with
some of the best fairways and greens
in Ireland. It is a course that presents
a challenge to all skill levels, from
the low handicap golfer to the golfing beginner. The redesigned course
officially re-opened in August 1996,
and lies within 200 yards of the
historic monastic settlement of Kilmacduagh.
When designing the course,
Christy O’Connor Jnr described “the
four Par 3’s as among the best on offer at any course in Ireland”.
Christy’s equally famous uncle,
Christy Senior and his good friends
Eamonn Darcy and Des Smyth were
loud in their praise of both the course
and the club house.
The club is ideally situated within a 20 mins drive from Ennis, 30
mins from Shannon Airport via the
new motorway, and less than 30
mins from Galway City. The ever
popular Golf Classic is a favourite
amongst GAA teams, schools and
local charities as a fundraising event.
The course is open 365 days per year
and societies/groups can be accommodated seven days per week. If you
are looking to entertain clients or reward employees, we cater for corporate golf outings or indeed, if it’s just
a 4-ball for those with a competitive
side – you will enjoy a championship
golf experience at Gort Golf Club!

Gort Ladies 2014 Junior Foursomes, All-Ireland Champions
IT wasn’t at all surprising that the GUI
Connacht branch choose Gort Golf
Club as its venue to host the 2015 GUI
Connacht Cups and Shields Finals in
August.
With its spacious meeting/office facilities,
ample car parking, a bar/restaurant offering
an extensive all day menu catering for the
every need, and a course meticulously
maintained to the highest standards – it
checked all the requirements for an
excellent choice of venue.
The Club was honoured to host this
prestigious event with clubs such as
Westport, Castlebar, Tuam, Cregmore and
Athenry to mention just a few who played
in the AIG - Junior Cup, Jimmy Bruen,
Pierce Purcell and the Golfstyle Kenny
Cup (Boys U17). The Connacht Cups and
Shields is truly the pinnacle of each and
every club golfer’s aspirations within the
province and naturally, their dream is to go
all the way to winning a coveted national
pennant for their club.
Gort’s Pierce Purcell Team did the club
very proud by winning the Connacht Final
of the Pierce Purcell Shield overcoming
Castlebar in the Connacht Final, with
home advantage being a major bonus.
With a strong panel of fourteen players,
with a large contingent from Corofin, in
Co. Clare; Team Captain, John Kelleher
proudly led his team to the All-Ireland
Semi Finals which were staged in Carton
House last month with all matches played
on the O’Meara course. Gort overcame
Nuremore Golf and Country Club in the
Semi-Final but lost the Final to Thurles
Golf Club, 3.5 to 1.5 in closely contested
matches.
Gort Golf Club has a strong tradition of
playing well in team competitions such as
the Junior Cup, Jimmy Bruen, Pierce Purcell
and most recently winning the 2015
Connacht Shield beating Ballinrobe in the
Final. Equally the ladies at the club have
performed exceptionally well, having won
their fair share of prestigious competitions
over the years. In 2014, they won the
All-Ireland Ladies Junior Foursomes where
they overcame East Cork in the Final in
Monkstown.
