The
Accidenta ls Concert
There’s plenty to be excited about at the Genesee District Library
this fall.
Alternative Acoustic Indie Folk Rock with a twist
... that’s The Accidentals. Better see them while
you can because this group will soon be playing
the biggest venues in the country!
First, we’re kicking off September with National Library Card Sign-up
Month by partnering with dozens of great local businesses. Pick up a
discount sheet at your local branch, then simply show your library card
at participating businesses to receive discounts and freebies.

Second, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve won an NEA Big Read grant
for the book The Call of the Wild by Jack London. We plan to share this great
book with the community all during the fall. Throughout the pages of this guide you’ll see that we’ve
got all kinds of wild programming planned including sled dogs, dog trainers, and survival and coyote
experts.
NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to broaden
our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good
book. Genesee District Library is one of 77 not-for-profit organizations to receive a grant to host an
NEA Big Read project between September 2016 and June 2017. The NEA presents NEA Big Read in
partnership with Arts Midwest.
So come on, get wild with us. We’re looking forward to seeing you!

Author Talk: Tracie McMillan
The American Way of Eating
Tracie McMillan went undercover in three food-related jobs—the produce
department at Walmart, the kitchen at Applebee’s, and as a migrant worker in
the California fields. Her expose is highly readable and fiercely honest. Books
will be available for sale and signing. Refreshments will be served.

Canine behaviorist Paul Bretzke will demonstrate basic
