Laser Targets for Dynamic Positioning... because a clear view matters L ASER TARGETS • CyScan compatible • Industry standard • Easy to mount • Cluster configurations for varied angular visibility • Dimensions specifically chosen for optimal performance The CyScan laser sensor operates with a variety of flat, cylindrical or prism targets. Laser targets are retro-reflective and return the pulsed laser beam reflection back to the sensor. The sensor accurately measures the range and bearing to the reference target(s) to allow the calculation of relative position and heading. Retro-reflective laser targets are typically installed on all offshore platforms. A range of high quality targets are available to suit all operational requirements. Applications Laser Targets are suitable for applications which use fixed structures such as: • Platform and Offshore supply • Accommodation barges • Crew boats station-keeping • Multi-purpose supply vessel • Heavy lift activities • Dive and ROV support • Fish farms Laser Targets are also suitable for applications with mobile structures such as: • Track and ship-follow • Shuttle tanker loading • Pipe and cable laying • Rock dumping • Replenishment at sea Delivering the future in dynamic positioning with consistently accurate products. Flexible and Non-Flexible Prism Cluster Targets Prisms reflect almost all the light received and provide the maximum signal strength allowing for longer operation in deteriorating visibility. They are typically mounted in clusters to provide a greater angle of visibility and/or to increase the signal response in locations prone to low visibility. Typical Operating Range with CyScan MK4 • 10m to 1250m (standard) • Up to 2500m (with long range licence) 90° 120° 160° 150° A B C 8-way flexible prism cluster 8-way fixed prism cluster for 160° angular visibility. 150° angular visibility. These are lower cost solutions but the signal attenuation at the reflector limits the maximum operating range and will cause a much earlier loss of signal in deteriorating visibility. They are short range, entry level reflectors and are recommended for augmenting prism clusters at installations with complicated layouts and cluttered vessel approaches. For maximum safety, Guidance always recommend glass prisms. F. Typical Operating Range with CyScan MK4 • 10m to 400m (1.9m cylindrical) • 10m to 500m (2m flat) • Up to 250m (0.85m cylindrical) Flat target 2m long (2m tape) x 350mm wide Aluminium construction target. Guidance can manufacture customised tape targets at the user’s requests. An example includes a 1.5m target customised to wind-farm projects. (0.76 tape) x 160mm wide This target is used for commissioning and testing purposes only. It is not recommended as a DP target. Instead use the 1.9m cylindrical, or better still, a prism.
