GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
DIVISION 6 - WOOD AND PLASTICS
Wood Framing
All wood members shall be minimum 1050 psi bending stress materials, dressed lumber of S4S grade,
(No. 2 Douglas Fir, Hem Fir or better) w/maximum 19% moisture content at time of dressing. Lumber in
contact with concrete, masonry or earth shall be treated for contact of such. Install 1/2" compressible
fiberglass blanket sill sealer at all sill plates.
Finish Wood, interior
All interior finish wood, including but not limited to baseboards, door casings and other misc. finish
trim shall be coordinated with Owner. It is the intent to match existing trim profiles where appropriate.
Finish Carpentry, miscellaneous components
Furnish and install miscellaneous finish carpetry items, including shelf and counter brackets as indicated
on drawings. Shelf standards shall be 12 ga. anochrome finish #87 ANO manufactured by Knape and
Vogt. Shelf brackets shall be 12 ga. heavy duty anachrome finish #187LL by Knape and Vogt. All
shelving and miscellaneous elements shown on drawings to be plastic laminate shall be shop fabricated
plastic laminate face with laminate backing sheets on unexposed surfaces on medium density fiberboard
(MDF) ANSI A208.2 with adhesive as specified by AWI standards. Plastic laminate color shall be
selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range of colors, as manufactured by Formica, Wilsonart
or approved equal. Submit shop drawings to Architect for review/approval prior to construction.
Architectural Casework
Furnish and install architectural casework as indicated on drawings. Casework shall be specially
fabricated cabinet units consisting of high-pressure plastic laminate (0.048 HDPL) over 3/4-inch
medium-denisty fiberboard (MDF) ANSI A208.2 with adhesive as specified by AWI standards. Plastic
laminate at exposed surfaces shall be selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range of colors, as
manufactured by Formica, Wilsonart or approved equal. Cabinet liner which are closed to view by
doors may be "melamine" type panels. All other exposed surfaces, including tops and bottoms of wall
hung cabinets, shall be HPDL. Drawer bottom, dust panels and similar shall be constructed using
hardwood meeting AHA A135.4, pressed wood fiber with resin binder, Class I-tempered, 1/4-inch,
smooth two sides. Construction shall include European style door/drawer hardware with full extension
and self-closing mechanism. Casework shelving shall include adjustable shelf supports using multiple pin
supports and coordinating rest supports with 1-inch spacing adjustment. Casework hardware shall be
standard wire "C" pulls, 4-inch o.c., brushed aluminum finish. All casework shall be provided with
standard keyed locks. Cabinet supplier shall coordinate all work and requirements with General
Contractor. Submit shop drawings to Architect for review/approval prior to construction.
Countertops: Plastic Laminate
Furnish and install countertops as indicated on drawings. Plastic laminate countertops shall be
high-pressure plastic laminate (0.048 inch HPDL) selected from manufacturer's full range of colors as
manufactured by Formica, Wilsonart or approved equal. Plastic laminate countertops shall be 3/4-inch
medium density fiberboard (MDF) substrate covered with HDPL, conventionally fabricated with HDPL
edges. Provide backsplash of same construction where indicated on drawings. Submit product
information to Architect for final color selection.
Fiberglass Reinforced Panel (FRP)
Furnish and install FRP panel at wall surface surrounding Janitor mop sink area. FRP panel shall extend
from top of mop sink to 60-inch height above floor. FRP panel shall be adhered to gypsum board
substrate. Provide standard FRP sheet, minimum 0.090-inch thickness, pebble finish as manufactured
by Marlite or approved equal. Provide all required trims and accessories for a complete installation.
DIVISION 7 - THERMAL AND MOISTURE PROTECTION
Sealants
Install sealant and backer rod where required to seal any joints, dissimilar material transitions and for
watertightness. All interior sealants shall be acrylic latex or approved equal. Where required, exterior
sealant shall be nonsag, polyurethane capable of continuous water immersion. Colors to match
adjacent surfaces. Install sealant isolation at dissimilar metal connections. Install acoustic sealant at all
new interior partitions.
DIVISION 8 - DOORS AND WINDOWS
Interior Flush Wood Doors
Furnish and install pre-hung wood frame, flush interior wood doors as indicated on drawings.
Acceptable manufacturer's are Graham Doors, Marshfield Doors or approved equal. Doors shall be
1-3/4 inch thick, with honey-comb core and face veneer maple species, rift cut with slip-matched grain
with edges of same species. Construct and finish doors in accordance with AWI standards. Doors
shall be factory machined for finish hardware. Factory finish doors in accordance with AWI Quality
Standards Section 1500 for transparent catalyzed polyurethane, satin sheen. Install doors per
manufacturer's instructions and AWI standards. Coordinate final species and finish with Owner.
Hollow Metal Frames
Furnish and install hollow metal frames where indicated on drawings. Frames shall be factory primed
with rust inhibiting primer complying with ANSI A250.10, ready for field finishing. HM frames shall be
14 ga frames. All frames shall be equipped with resilient rubber silencers, 3 on strike side of single
door. Frames indicated to be fire-rated shall bear the certification plate of UL or other approved
testing agency for rating specified. Prep for door hardware in accordance with BHMA A 156.115
with reinforcement welded in place.
Hardware
All door hardware shall meet the requirements of the Michigan Barrier-Free and ADA regulations (lever
type or equal). Finishes to be standard US26D/BHMA 626 dull chrome or equal. Keying per Owner.
Standard of goods shall be Schlage D-series locksets, LCN closers, Stanley hinges or approved equal.

DIVISION 9 - FINISHES
Gypsum Board
Furnish and install standard paper-faced gypsum board ASTM C1396 as manufactured by US Gypsum
or approved equal. Provide 1/2-inch minimum thickness at walls, 5/8-inch at all ceiling construction and
5/8-inch Type 'X' fire-rated where indicated on drawings. Provide all cornerbeads, casing beads and
other miscellaneous trim as required for a neat and complete installation. All gypsum board shall be
glued and fastened with screws. Screws shall be self-tapping type located at 12" o.c. Install product
in strict accordance with manufacturers instructions. Provide Level 4, ready for painting.
Acoustic Ceilings and Metal Suspension System
Furnish and install suspended metal grid ceiling system and acoustic ceiling panels as indicated on
drawings. Acoustic ceiling panels shall be as follows:
ACT-1: "Cortega" as manufactured by Armstrong World Industries
Size: 24 inch by 24 inch by 5/8-inch thickness
Edge: Reveal edge
Surface Color: White
Surface Pattern: Non-directional fissured
Metal suspension system shall be manufactured by same as acoustic panel units, equal to "Prelude XL"
15/16-inch tee system by Armstrong World Industries. Suspension system shall comply with ASTM
C635 die-cut, interlocking components complete with stabilizer bars, clips, edge trim and all
accessories to provide a complete installation. Installation shall be in accordance with ASTM C 636,
ASTM E 580 and manufacturer's instructions. Hold-down clips shall be installed on acoustic panels
within 20 feet of an exterior door. Submit product information to Architect for review/approval prior
to construction.
Vinyl Plank Flooring (LVT) and Wall Base
Furnish and install LVT (vinyl plank) flooring and resilient wall base where indicated on Room Finish
Schedule and drawings. LVT shall be "Freelay Heritage Wood" as manufactured by Milliken Co., color:
HER-208, or approved equal. Vinyl flooring shall be 9-inch wide x 60-inch length, installed randomly.
Provide 28 mil wear layer, 5 mm overall product thickness. LVT shall comply with ASTM F970 for
static load limit. Flooring shall comply with ADA requirements for slip-resistance. Installation of LVT
shall be free lay with perimeter adhesive in accordance with manufacturer's installation
recommendations. Resilient base shall be ASTM F 1861, Type TS rubber. Provide resident base of
4-inch by 0.125-inch thick, satin finish with premolded external corners and end stops as manufactured
by Johnsonite, Roppe or approved equal. Colors to be selected from full range of colors. Install in
accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Submit product information for Architect review/approval
prior to construction.
Painting
All interior surfaces shall receive finish paint or stain. Color as selected by Owner. Where painting is
required use the following schedule:

Corner Guards
Furnish and install surface-mounted polymer cover corner guards similar to Acrovyn 4000 Model
#SSM-20N, or approved equal. Corner guards shall be install where indicated on drawings. Assembly
shall consist of manufacturer's standard prefabricated unit of snap-on, resilient plastic cover installed
over retainer, including mounting hardware. Cover shall be extruded rigid plastic, minimum 0.078-inch
wall thickness, 2-inches wide with 1/4-inch radius corner. Retainer clips shall be manufacturer's
standard non-corrosive impact absorbing clips. Top and bottom caps shall be prefabricated
manufacturer's standard matching cover color. Color shall be selected by Architect from manufacturer's
full range of colors.

Mechanical, plumbing and electrical work shall be developed on a design-build arrangement. Design
and installation shall be in strict compliance with the latest edition of the Michigan Mechanical Code,

as they may apply. Trade contractors shall coordinate all work and associated requirements with
General Contractor and related trades.
GENERAL
SPECS
Drawings reflect general design intentions and are for establishing the schematic scope of work only.
Trade contractors shall aquaint themselves with the existing conditions to determine work requirements
for completing the design renovations proposed. Owner equipment contractor will provide equipment
shop drawings prior to construction for trade contractors use in determining final equipment

DIVISION 0 - CONDITIONS OF THE CONTRACT
Scope of the Work
The scope of work includes, but not limited to, the furnishing materials and providing labor to complete
all work required for the proposed interior renovation project to accommodate two new dental exam
and lab/sterilization area at the existing facilities for Northwest Michigan Health Services located at 119
S. State Street, Shelby, Michigan.
Governing Regulations
All Work shall be performed in strict conformance with State of Michigan Building Code (IBC 2012, as
amended), Michigan Barrier-free Regulations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as applicable and
most current editions of the Michigan Mechanical Code, Michigan Plumbing Code, National Electrical
Code, National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) and other state and local regulations as they may apply.
Licensing and Permit Fees
General and trade contractors shall be licensed by the State of Michigan for their respective trade.
Contractors are responsible for obtaining and paying for required permits and inspections as
associated with their respective trade.
Insurance
Contractors shall provide Certificate of Insurance covering statuary insurance requirements for
workman's compensation insurance and other as applicable. Provide general liability insurance of
$1,000,000 minimum per occurance. The Owner and Architect shall be named as co-insured for the
duration of the project.
Product Samples and Substitutions
It shall be required that the contractor submit material samples and shop drawings for the primary
components of this project to the Architect. Additionally, Contractor shall complete all work in
accordance with equipment supplier's shop drawing submittals. Where specific materials are specified,
provide only that product unless approved prior to installation by the Architect. Colors to be selected
by Architect from manufacturer's standard range of colors.
Drawings
Do NOT scale drawings. Use dimensional figures only. Contractor shall verify all dimensions prior to
construction and shall be responsible for same. Notify Architect immediately of any discrepancies,
dimensional errors, or existing conditions that effect the design intent. Dimensional figures are from
face of wall to face of wall, typically.
