BLUE KNIGHTS PLEDGE: As a Blue Knight, I pledge to act with honor and pride to promote motorcycling and
motorcycle safety by being an example of the safe use, operation and enjoyment of motorcycles. I will work at all
times to improve the relationship between the motorcycling law enforcement community and the general public. The
fraternal spirit will always guide me in relating to other Blue Knights.

The Chairman’s Chair: Guy Cook, NY XVIII
The BLUE KNIGHTS Int’l Convention took place June 17th thru the 24th and was hosted
by PA V in Harrisburg, PA. I want to thank the members and family of PA V for doing a
fine job of hosting this event.
The Board of Governors held their Executive Board elections during the BOG
meeting and the following were elected to a two year term: Chairman-Rory MacConnell,
Vice Chairman-Cal Ennals, Secretary-Jim Borza, and Treasurer-Mike Rickard.
GA XVI will be hosting the 2018 Int’l Convention.
During the General Membership meeting all resolutions that were up for ratification by the general
membership were passed except for the resolution that would have increased the annual membership
dues. That resolution was voted down. The Int’l dues structure remains the same with no increases to
membership dues or the bronze or silver tier dues. For more information, please read the General
Membership minutes when they become available (they will be posted in the Members Only section of
the Int’l website).
NY XXV is working hard on planning the 2016 Fall TSC Convention. It’s not too early to make your
plans to attend this fun event. For more information, please go to the TSC website www.bktsc.org and
click on the TSC Fall Conference button or go to NY XXV’s website at www.bkny25.com.
That’s what I have for now. I look forward to seeing you on the road or at upcoming BLUE KNIGHTS
events. Everyone have a safe and happy “Fourth of July” weekend.
Ride safe and “Ride with Pride”
Guy
From the Vice-Chairman: Don Parker, NY IV
Hello Brother and Sisters Knights,
As I write this, many of you are returning home from the 2016 International Convention.
For those that are, I hope you had a wonderful time. I know PA V put a ton of work into
trying to make it the best time possible for you. Unfortunately work and some major
family commitments keep me at home this year. I am sorry I missed it, especially with if being held in
our own back yard.
I really have little to report to you this month as I have not heard any reviews yet from the Convention
or the meetings other than I did hear that the Membership Meeting was a long one. I do want to
congratulate our own TSC Members Cal Ennals and Jim Borza for their elections to the Board of
Governors.
Now that the convention is over, I hope you all will turn your sights towards our Fall TSC Weekend.
NY XXV is hosting in Matamoras, PA and it promises to be another great time. Please keep
participating in all the great events that chapters are conducting this season and try your best to hit at
least one new one. Myron is doing a great job keeping the ride schedule up to date and I am continually
posting new events as they come in on the Events page of the TSC website. I encourage you all to use
these tools to find BK events of interest and then attend them.
That’s about all I have for this month. I hope you all make the best out of our riding season and stay
safe out there.
Ride with Pride
Don

TSC Updates: Secretary Myron Joseph, NY IX
The 42nd International Convention has come and gone. I would like to thank Dean
and Tom and the members of PA 5 for hosting the convention, they did an awesome
job. It was good to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones. I have included
several photographs from the convention in this newsletter that were sent to me by TriState members.
Sandy and Tiny from WI VI are rearing to go for the 43rd International Convention, they made a
presentation at the General meeting. They have a lot in store for us next year. Hopefully I will see some
of your there.
My Angels spring soccer team the “ Lady Hurricane’s” have finished their season with and
impressive record of 9 – 2. Her Softball team, The “Angels” didn’t so well. They didn’t win a game
during the season, but at least the girls are enjoying themselves and at the same time learning a lot about
the game. She did make the all-star team, but they also lost the first game and the first game in the losers
division. She is already looking forward to next year’s season.
.
TRI-State Conference News:
It’s that time again, Tri-State Conference Board Elections. Anyone who is desiring to run for one
of the elected positions on the board, MUST have their Nomination forms to me by August 10, 2016. At
this time all the current members of the board are seeking the same positions for another two years. (I
don’t know why. I think we are all just crazy and enjoy the comradery.)
I have received all of the 2016 Chapter Contact and Event forms. I just want to say thank you to all
that have sent them in. I have added the new contact information to my email distribution lists. I have
left the old contact on as long as they are still members. If you don’t wish to be on the list, just send me
an email and I will remove you.
All Tri-State Chapters have paid their tri-state dues to Keith Bowers. Now is a good time to remember
to file your chapter IRS form 990-N.

Tri – State Chaplain Jim Odenheimer
Greetings Tri-State Blue Knights,
By now all of you have returned from the International convention in Harrisburg and
should be recovered from having a wonderful time. Kudos to Pa V and Tom Taylor and
his staff for a job very well done!
Last month I spoke about the laws of man. As each of you know through your profession, mankind
has created volumes of laws to deal with almost any situation that could arise, factual as well as
fictional. There are civil laws and criminal laws. Sometimes they both intertwine and become almost
unmanageable. I remember many times filing a criminal complaint, and reviewing the initial charges
with the DA's office to make sure we hadn't forgotten anything. There were many times we had to file a
amended complaint to add what we had forgotten, or didn't even think was applicable. Any time
mankind gets involved with improving something, it never fails that the end product is screwed up. The
law I'm talking about is the Law of God, more commonly known as the 10 commandments.
The 10 commandments are found in the Old Testament in the book of exodus, chapter 20. Later in
the New Testament (Matthew 22, 36-40), Jesus summarized them into just two commandments. When
questioned by the religious experts of the day, they asked him “Teacher, which is the greatest
commandment of the Law? Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul,
and all your mind, this is the first and greatest commandment, and the second is like it, love your
neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments." The first
commandment given by Jesus covers the first four of the original 10 commandments, and the second
one covers the last six. How in the world have we managed to distort something so simple and profound
into the Laws we expect people to follow today? I used to joke with fellow officers that if people just
followed one half of the 10 commandments, we would all probably be out of a job. Actually it's far
simpler than that. Just follow the two commandments that Jesus gave and the unemployment line would
be full of unemployed police officers, corrections officers, as well as probation and parole officers. We
wouldn't need a complex Court system, and that would eliminate the need for lawyers and that whole
industry fueled by human pain and suffering. As I see it, there's no down side to this idea.
I can still vividly remember the many local lawsuits and Court battles to have images of the 10
Commandments removed from our schools and other public buildings, including my local Courthouse.
The ACLU and other "do gooder" groups said they were offended by having to be exposed to a
Christian influence. What idiots they now appear to be. The original 10 Commandments have appeared
in many codified books of Law in one form or another since well before the time of Christ. When God
handed them down to Moses, there was no concept of Christianity, just people who followed God, and
people who didn't. We have a loving and merciful God who gave us a simple 10 step program to live
the beautiful and prosperous life he intended for us. The 10 Commandments are nothing more than
common sense, you know what they say, and “you can't legislate common sense". I know as I grow
older, I try and simplify my life as I learn from past experience and mistakes just what is important and
what isn't. I wish I had looked at life then as I do now. With all my heart I try to follow the first of
Jesus's commandments. God is #1 in my life. That one was kind of easy when I was able to sort out my
priorities. The second Commandment of "Love your Neighbor as yourself" is still a work in progress.
While we all want and hope to see the best in our neighbors, sooner or later, one of them does something
really stupid, and we react with the appropriate response as dictated by our personal use of force policy.
As Law Enforcement Officers it's generally not in our DNA to turn the other cheek, or to try and
understand someone by walking a mile in their shoes. Too many of us, forgiveness must be earned and it
is something we rarely give out for free. There lies the problem. What we now seem to have is a
society that has no common sense, and doesn't follow many of the 10 Commandments, if any at all, and
5
a Law Enforcement community that reacts with a lack of understanding, often seeing the act of criminal
behavior absent from the person who committed the violation or the reason behind the action.
There is much we as individuals we can't change. What each of us can change is our attitude. The
term, "it is what it is” is outdated. What it needs to become is "it is what we make it". Follow Jesus's
summation of the 10 Commandments, and everything in your life will fall into place!
Ride With Pride, and Please wear your helmets, (none of us has any extra brains to spare)
Faithfully yours in Christ,
Chaplain Odie

Are You HOT???
Summer’s on the way, and we look forward to lots of great riding this season. But
riding in hot weather presents special challenges for the motorcycle rider.
When our body temperatures get too high we can suffer. Yes, we can be slightly uncomfortable, but
that’s least of our worries. More importantly if the situation continues we will manifest both physical
and mental problems that can be nothing short of dangerous. Mentally, we will be dealing with a loss of
concentration and ability to think clearly. Physically we will have to deal with such issues as cramps,
headaches and nausea. Some of these are due directly to heat and some to dehydration, but in the end,
problems are problems. Of course the best way to deal with heat and dehydration is to avoid them.
Experienced riders know to travel at times of the day when the ambient temperature is lower, such as at
night or early morning. It’s cooler at higher elevations, so if you have a choice of routes, consider a
higher road. If you are going to be riding in hot weather, here are some things you can do to mitigate the
problems heat and dehydration can cause. Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water, and stay away from
beverages that actually cause your body to eliminate water, such as alcoholic beverages, soda pop,
coffee and tea. Consider using a water bladder as you ride, such as a Camelbak or similar product. You
can sip water as you ride. Drink enough water so that you don’t ever feel thirsty, because once you feel
thirsty you are behind the power curve.Keep the sun and hot breeze off your skin. Yes, even in the heat,
cover up with a mesh riding jackets. It’s wonderful! You will notice its cooler to wear this jacket in hot
weather than to wear no jacket at all. If you don’t have one of those jackets, wear a lightweight shirt,
preferably light in color as well. Try an evaporative cooler/bandanna. They have crystals sewn inside
them that absorb water and keep your neck cool. These things are effective. When at rest/gas stops, open
up your jacket and wet down your shirt, then close your jacket again. When you begin riding again you
will feel much cooler. Many great rides can be done in hot weather if the proper precautions are taken.
Enjoy!
