The Belgians do well abroad and there is something for every genre. After the
American stories of "Sela Sue", "Milow" and "Netsky" there’s another man from
Antwerp who succeeds.
Earlier this summer, Media Watchers already covered the name Jo Cassiers in
an article. Jo who is guitarist with Stan Van Samang is known in the Belgian
music scene as a guitarist, producer and songwriter.
The release of his first instrumental solo album "Cajeune radio" led to a number
of successful production orders in 2012.
After several studio sessions with Chris Kimsey, (producer of The Rolling Stones
... Duran Duran and INXS) in London, in collaboration with Andy Treacey
(drummer for Faithless, Dido, Moby...) and Neil Fairclough (Bassplayer for
Bryan May and Queen..) Jo has now hit the charts in America with American
Country singer Nathan Osmond.
What started with a writing session via skype with the Scottish songwriter
Marwenna Diame and the son of the famous "Osmonds Family" Nathan
Osmond culminated in a real cooperation.
"It was a spontaneous recording session, nothing complicated, I felt again like a
12 year old," says Jo.
Jo took the production on his behalf, signed along for eight songs and was given
the opportunity to work with Gaynor Brunson engineer for "The Beastie Boys"
oa. The first song from this collaboration "Stars and Stripes" is now after
fourteen weeks in the top 50 at number 1.
Also on the NMW Country Chart Majors indie, is the song after 3 weeks at
number 28 and as the Americans say, "ahead of Taylor Swift and Zach Brown"!
"Nathan is a friendly and nice guy to work with and in the meantime also became
a good friend," said Jo.
After opening for the Beach Boys on the 4th of july for 65,000 people in the
Stadium of Fire in Utah and the release of the video of "Stars & Stripes" on The
Lou Dobbs Show with around 5,000,000 viewers, the airplay initiated at various
Country Radio stations. Meanwhile follows now the airplay in Canada, Japan,
England and Germany.
"It gives me a lot of international doors tha open, and I can really enjoy it this
time," laughs Jo. "In the past I have done some work in Los Angeles and Nashville
and that was difficult."
"I previously already had 2 songs in an American movie" Friends & Lovers "
starring Stephen Baldwin and Robert Downing Jr. in the leading roles. That
took quite some effort and that was also the end of it. At least I thought "
"This time there are spontaneous reactions of Artists from America, England,
France, Scotland, Norway, with demand for collaborations. Yeah, I'm
overwhelmed, ha " Jo laughs " I soon hope to be able to release some names we
are gonna be working with, you will fade. "
Interesting tidbit:
Stars & Stripes is about war victims, and is one of support to the victims,
soldiers and former soldiers and their families. It is a patriotic song that also in
the Mitt Romney Campaign was used on the " Campaign Fundraising ". I myself
am not involved in politics and I am a democrat. Strange how things turn out
sometimes. "
JO CASSIERS ON TOUR WITH “JC and the black list” ROCKIN’ THE BLUES
2013 Jo will be playing gigs with his own band “JC and the black list” in trio with
Andy Treacey on drums and Neil Fairclough on bass and vocals.
Playing some stuff of his first album “Cajeune radio” and songs of his new album
to come. The new record will be recorded with Chris Kimsey at Olympic
studios, featuring some big name guest appearances.
This band will also be backing Nathan Osmond on his Uk and Scottish tour.
