Crokinole Boards Comparison Review Practical Guide for Crokinole Geeks Elwis Szypulski August 2011 Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 1 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review INTRODUCTION As I have lately mentioned, we wanted this review to be especially helpful to European (but not only) interested in buying a decent crokinole board. I would like to make them know about boards by themselves and about many aspects of purchase as well. I hope it will simplify your choices and help you in avoiding some disappointments. This is why I haven't limited it only to the features of a given board, but I extended it by parts: Selection, Service and Costs. Our review consists of following parts: I Selection II Service: Availability, Delivery Time, Quality of Contact, Packing and Adjusting Claims and Requests. III Costs: Board Price, Transport Price, Additional Costs. IV Board: First Glance - Esthetics, Stability, Quality of the Playing surface, Posts/Pegs, Ditch and Rail, Discs. V Recapitulation All elements of the review's parts are separately rated, so you can take into consideration only these aspects you are interested in. I used 1-5 grade range which: 1 means crap, 2 - poor, 3 - average, 4 - good, 5 - great. I SELECTION At the beginning of the boards selection for the club we skipped all boards we couldn't find enough feedback about them in the "industry" and crokinole world, also boards with too many negative reviews from users, and boards which didn't fulfill other criteria of selections like: tournament shape and size. So, we excluded among others: - Jaques London Deluxe (too less feedback, traditional size) - Octagonal Crokinole from www.carrom.it,(too less feedback, traditional size) - The Crokinole Shop (no replies for inquiry) - Dave and Norman Lagasse Pichenotte (no boards available) - Mayday Games (too many bad reviews, pre order availability, some failures on available boards). - Thomas Corre Crokinole Standart Board. I will come back to the two last ones in this text soon. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 2 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review First we wanted to try any of Hilinski Standard Boards, which seemed to be the most beautiful, kind of piece of art stuff. Price is 200 CAD. Hilinski brothers replied for our inquiry that they were no longer doing international shipping due to the very high cost. Our second object of desire was Mr.Crokinole's Eagle quite expensive board: 275 CAD. Wayne Kelly wrote us that Mr. Crokinole was simply overwhelmed with requests worldwide. He gave me a suggestion to contact his cooperator from F rance - Thomas Cor re, whose work you can check on www.crokinole.fr. Wayne Kelly had also promised me to check if I was glad, but he forgot. I was corresponding with Thomas. All in all I gave up his boards because he had no Tournament shape boards at hand, however I must admit that they look interesting and decent. They can be considered especially by someone who likes octagonal shape crokinoles or at least doesn't care about shape and its routered lines on the playing surface. This kind of lines looks nice but someone could find it controversial because they probably affect the travel of a disc passing over them. Although shape of the board is traditionally octagonal, size of a playing surface is still large as at tournament boards (66cm). Additional advantages are: competitive price for such a hand made board, and Mr.Crokinole recommendation. Shipping cost to Denmark, for example, is 55 Euros. After many weeks of seeking, experiences, analyzing, staying in touch with some helpful people from Canada, Germany and other countries, we could ascertain that the following boards were ultimate for our club: - Muzzies Tournament - Tischlerei Knels - Jeske Wintersonne - Willard PRO Muzzies Tournament Board (Blomelain Version) Murray from Muzzies has joined the first League of Crokinole makers and he's being in vogue recently. Tischlerei Knels - Jeske Wintersonne Jeske and his wife Betina continue making boards in Germany, which already have being made for several years. Willard PRO Willard Martin has been making crokes for many years, he continues 40years tradition of crafting Crokinole boards in Martin family. He is a longstanding World Crokinole Championship supplier. Our review of Willard PRO could actually refers to WCC Board, because it's done to WCC specification. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 3 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review All features and materials are exactly the same, the only differences are colors: of ditch, "20"hole, lines and logos. These are the main competitors of our comparison, which reached the final. There are some differences you could be interested in being learned of. Both of our Canadian choices: Muzzies and Willard, unlike Mr.Crokinole and Hilinski, were ready for international cooperation. Now I am sharing our observations after several months of playing on them and being in touch with board makers. If someone read our thread he knew that I was requested by Mayday Games to include their board in our review. I wanted to collate their new Premium Hardwood Tournament Board model with our main competitors. I haven't received all answers for my questions to support the idea (like lending a board for the review, costs, etc.). All the same I took a trip to Warsaw for invitation of Mayday Games distributor in Poland - Piotr Burzykowski but he hadn’t Premium Hardwood then. However by courtesy of him I could take a careful look on the original Tournament boards. Although we don't possess Mayday Game at our club, after several weeks of wait the owner of Mayday Games made me know about possibility of purchasing Premium Hardwood with a discounted price. I decided to buy this better model of Mayday Games Board to share my thoughts with you on it and keep it, if it was good. So, this board is added to comparison as wild card competitor. II SERVICE 1. Availibility Tournament - although Murray was busy, our first board was ready to dispatch after our inquiry: 5 pts. Wintersonne - ready for shipping right away. We ordered twice, and both times was at hand. It's given 5 pts. PRO - both times ready to dispatch, score: 5 pts. Premium Hardwood - It wasn’t available at the moment we asked about it, but after 4 weeks. 2 pts for that. 2. Delivery time Tournament - dispatched immediately. We ordered Air Shipping. Note on Canadian Post statement was Priority Worldwide, however they replied it was actually XpressPost (should be 4 days in Denmark). All in all I received Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 4 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review it in 11 days, after custom procedure. No Muzzies fault, but too long for the price. Economy parcel - see Willard. I give it 3 pts. Wintersonne - sent quickly, board received within 1 week, twice, cool for impatient. 5 pts. PRO - exactly 6 weeks of waiting included custom procedure. 3 pts for Willard. Premium Hardwood - like in the case of Wintersonne we got it in 1 week, because it was shipped out from warehouse in Germany, fine: 5 pts. 3. Quality of Contact Tournament - very, very good. You could exchange information even several times a day if you need information in spite of different time-zones. He was tracking my parcel during shipment. 5 points for Murray. Wintersonne - for people speaking German probably contact would be one level better, but English were good enough at our both sides to make a deal. Although once I tried calling them and there was no answer, they also had some problems with e-mail, but generally was no problem in confirming purchase details. In my opinion: 4 pts. PRO - perfect. you can talk via phone, Skype or receive several e-mails if needed. Willard devotes time to his customers, nothing but 5 pts is left to rate. Hardwood Premium - the owner kept some of my questions open, sometimes I had to wait longer for an answer, and waited 1 week for transfer-purchase confirmation, but he made me know about shipping out enclosing tracking number. I mark it - 2.75. 4. Packing Tournament - although there was no inside or outside damage, but the way it was packed I could't call very safe for international delivery. - 4 pts, because nothing happened. Wintersonne - nice packed. German functional minimalism. The Boards were secured with styrofoam from each side. I give 5 pts. PRO - unconventional way of packing, but very effective. Planks and rags as secure materials :-) 5 points. Hardwood Premium - Double cardboard, with a paper corner fillers were good enough to save the article. 4.5 pts for MG. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 5 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review 5. Adjusting Claims and Requests Tournament - Murray saved me 100 CAD on his own initiative! He sent me money back he managed from Canadian Post for special delivery, because they hadn't fulfill on time delivery guarantee. It is shining example of good service. I have a hole in my crokinole at request I got more than I expected. 5 pts. Wintersonne - I received lacking number of discs and different kinds of rubber for pegs for free. Rate: 4.5. PRO - Willard bared all the costs for unexpected issue and saved me as a customer. Hi is a reliable businessman. he is opened for suggestions and offers help and advice. I give 5 pts. Premium Hardwood - Well, it is a long story. At the very beginning I had played straight with Seth before I ordered the board making him know that I wanted to avoid some failure-related troubles, but I didn’t. I failed a claim (6 issues!) because in my opinion this board was not fit for sale and play, but Seth seemed not to understand this fact. There were some ridiculous proposals, excuses and tips in first reply instead of proposal of exchanging good or refund. Among the others: minor imperfections of a top notch board, self fixing, offer to purchase some parts to the board, careful look, etc. which I found objectionable. After my unequivocal refusal Seth asked me to sand the board to a new “home” (???) and promised a full refund. It took many e-mails and some photos to finish this farce. I have just received some spare parts, which should fit the board. I doubt if it was an isolated case, because he published my reservations and the answers for them on the product website as FAQ right away. 2 pts is the most I can mark. The Summary of the Part: For Service Part from European point of view: 1. Tischlerei Knels - Jeske Wintersonne - 23,5 pts, 2. Willard PRO - 23.5 pts, 3. Muzzies Tournament 22 pts. Mayday Games Hardwood Premium - 16.25 pts. Because not everything is up to our crokinole makers (f.e. long distance delivery), points from 2. depending actually on our location, can be skipped if you are very patient person or if you live beyond Europe. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 6 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review III COSTS 1. Cost of the boards Tournament - Cost of the board (game pieces, drawstring bag and instruction included) - 169 CAD = 125 €*. Best price for handmade board. 5 pts for Muzzies. Wintersonne - (game pieces, drawstring bag and instruction included) - 166 €. Well, it isn't cheap by itself compering to other offers and its competitors. 3 pts. PRO - 179 CAD (game pieces and instruction included, drawstring bag not included +4,50 CAD) = 133 €, which is very good price for a Tournament board per se. (vide WCC Board or Eagle) - 4.50 pts. Premium Hardwood - It is again fuzzy case. Although I receive this board for discounted price, the price on company website is 149,95 USD (104 €), but the owner says the retail price in the USA is 135 USD (94 €). Actually I couldn’t find any info about sale of Hardwood Premium on European distributors websites. Analogizing to prices from company website - its price should be a little higher than price of original Tournament Board which costs in Poland 94 €, in Germany 129.90 €, but at Essen 150 €, in England 125.5 €. I am confused, but give 4.5 pts assuming that board is free from failures. 2. Delivery cost to Denmark (shipping + custom duty/import tax). Tournament - standard delivery- 95 CAD = 69 € we add to mentioned price. it's not the end, unfortunately buying board from Canada we from EU should assume additional fee: custom duty/import tax. We payed it in every case. It was about 30% of the sum of 125 € and 69 €. So overall delivery cost for Muzzies Tournament board is 69 € + 58 €* = 127 €. Taking into consideration many offers for transport, and for tax duty I would give 6.25 pts all together out of 10. Wintersonne - Its shipping cost is only 42 € and it's free from custom duty/ import tax. Overall delivery cost is 42 €. It is rated 4.25 pts for transport and 5 pts for lack of tax = 9.25 pts. PRO - I had to pay 103 CAD (75 €) for delivery from Canada and 68 € of import tax. All delivery cost was 143 € for single board. Then my overall rate is 6 pts. Premium Hardwood - Price range: from 28 € (England) - 78 € (Poland), average shipping cost: 53.5 €. So, it would be 3.75 pts + 5 pts for no tax obligation = 8.75 pts. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 7 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review * All amounts in € for import tax were converted from DKK. They may differ a bit from rates in various EU countries. Summery of the part: Cost round overall would be for Premium Hardwood - 13.25 pts, 2nd place for Wintersonne from Tischlerei Knels - Jeske - 12 pts, 11.25 pts and 3rd placer for Muzzies Tournament, and 4th for Willard PRO - 10.5 pts, but the most interesting part is yet to come. IV BOARDS BY THEMSELVES 1. First Glance - Esthetics Muzzies Tournament. In Blomelain version is eye candy, you going to be convinced at the moment you open box. The base and side rail unlike the others is made of solid maple. Plywood of playing surface is also very nice and thick. Brass pegs on inner circle look stylish. There is no failure on the item. You can see the place from bird's eye view where two ends of rail were joined, however it's not an issue. The board is pleasant to the touch. There is a key hole on the back side made at my request for hanging. 5 pts for Muzzies. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 8 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review Tischlerei Knels - Jeske Wintersonne. Our second competitor represents more "industrial" esthetics. You can see silver color screws inside transparent latex tubes, but supplier announces on website it is brass. They are O.K. but nothing fancy. Plywood of playing surface is thinner then at other rivals. You also can notice different approach of making rail and back. Lines on playing surface are black and contrast to light surface. They are rather wide and put on before lacquer layers are put. We see here and there places where craftsman finishes a painting move. Playing surface is finished with birch veneer. I haven't found a failure in any of our boards of that model. At the beginning I give Wintersonne 4.25 pts. Willard PRO. From the moment you take hold of it you feel you deal with something serious. It is built like a tank. I like its color. Emerald green of a ditch, 20 hole and lines seems to be well matched to a billard game. Lines are thinner than on other boards. They are nice and precise. Light color of playing surface Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 9 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review appearances pleasant with black posts. Plywood is made of Russian Baltic Birch. All elements seem to be a bit thicker then at standard board. Willard PRO looks like a big billard game reduced to table-top size. 5 pts is how I rate its appearance. Willard Pro Premium Hardwood. This edition was to be much improved over original in terms of quality. Actually board looks a bit toyish in comparison to other reviewed boards. But the main issue is that it’s also shoddy made. As soon as you pick it up It starts creaking. Too small holes for pegs (or vice versa), unevenness of the ditch, not properly screwed in bottom (sticking out screws), gaps in plywood, not properly cut veneer at 20’s hole are clearly visible and should be a subject of complain. Supplier enclose wooden box for pieces, with a scoring track on it, but scoring pegs don’t fit them. Quality rescue call: Mayday!Mayday! The board is built mostly of MDF. The underside looks different, not to say strange and “cheaper” than underside of the others. In my opinion lines shouldn't be painted directly on top of the surface. Really Deep 20’s hole with Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 10 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review convex bottom also stands out. It is to make taking out of discs easier, but I find it to be controversial. Another vague matter is the surface. Mayday Games in Boardgamegeek and Ryan Metzler in his video review claim that the surface is indeed real wood, not sticker or veneer applied on the wood: http://boardgamegeek.com/image/962844/crokinole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1QCTMkK3tE The surface of my board is a kind of “sticker veneer”, which is conspicuous on the first pic. bellow. To be honest I doubt my version is the Premium Hardwood edition, if it is indeed you wouldn’t call it Premium either Hardwood. The board I received seems to be very similar to previous edition boards I tried in Poland, and different than Hardwood Premium boards from the website or review. I shared my doubts (and photos) with a supplier, but haven’t received any matter-of-fact reply. On the next page you find another pictures referring to my explicit assessment. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 11 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review Closing this topic I give 1.5 pts. Not finished 20’s hole and “sticker Veneer” Sticking out screws Many of places with gaps inside plywood worthless tracking score Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 12 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review 2. Stability Muzzies Tournament. It’s not a light board. Thanks to it. it’s quite stable, however there is no feet attached to the underside. 4.5 pts is a grade for it. Wintersonne. The weight of this board is a little heavier than Muzzies Tournament, but manufacturer installed three metal feet. It could scratch a table or move while playing on its very slick surface, but frankly speaking it didn’t happen unless we accidently hit it. 4 pts for stability of Wintersonne Willard PRO. This one represents heavy weight of crokinole boards. Additionally three rubber feet attached to the underside protect it from moving. It deserves 5 pts Premium Hardwood. This board is the the lightest from the starters and you can’t find any feet when you turn it over but we haven’t noticed any problems while playing. 4 pts for this board. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 13 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review 3. Quality of the playing surface. Muzzies Tournament The playing surface of our first competitor is really smooth and nice. It brings you fine “gameplay”. We used it in many conditions. For example we played it outdoor and it was exposed to the action of the sun, but protected by wax. It seems to be a little bit more sensitive to weather conditions and unevenness of discs than other main opponents. Murray doesn’t recommend using any granular wax on it. Particular care will definitely help you in keeping board’s good action. 4.25 pts for Murray. Wintersonne This board made a very nice impression on us in terms of playing surface. Pucks glide on it pleasantly, producing a nice swoosh. An smoothness is consistent all over its surface. It keeps good action for a long time before you have to wax it again. However Jeske accepts a powder to speed up shots, but you can believe me it’s not necessary, especially when you applies good wax on the surface. We haven’t noticed any failure on our boards. European manufacturer deserves 5 pts. Willard PRO I have to admit after first touch I had an impression its surface couldn’t be so slick as Wintersonne or Muzzies Tournament, but after couple of flicks I got to appreciate it. It leaves no doubt why this board is used in many canadian Tournaments including World Crokinole Championship. I like the sound of it while playing. The board gives even slides all over the surface. The result of using shuffle board on it is awesome: NHL on the board. 5 pts. for Willard. Premium Hardwood It’s barely playable without waxing. Flicked pucks slow down inconsistently. It definitely requires waxing regardless of the assurance in the article description on Maydaygames website: ”...ensure your board is ready to go out of the box “. Waxing improves moves, however its playing surface is still not so consistent and predictable as the other boards. I give it 1.5 pts for for the surface before preparing and 4 pts for action after it : 2.75 pts. overall. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 14 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review 4. Posts Muzzies Tournament Murray supplies you with two kinds of pegs: brass and rubber. They are attached really straight. Metal ones give nice sound and bounce, but if you modify them with a rubber you must get used to them again, Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 15 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review it’s a whole another thing. Rubber Posts are less “forgiving”, they rebounds even stronger and strikingly different, but still properly. I rate them 4.5 pts for action and possibility of choice. Wintersonne In this case you receive transparent latex tubes put on metal pegs - screws. The manufacturer asserts on his website they are brass, but I doubt. He can supply you with another two different black tubes at request. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 16 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review One kind of them is scabrous and provides like metal rebound, another is more slick but a little to thin for us. We have decided to keep original ones because of being the most similar to tournament standards we are interested in. I give them 4.5 pts. Willard PRO The pegs of this board are the thickest of all. They consist of brass screws and black latex tubes put on them. These posts produce consistent response, which is bouncy, predictable and sounds nice. The rate: 5 pts. Premium Hardwood As you can see on the picture below they don’t fit the holes. If I follow a tip of the supplier and trim the pegs I would wrestle with wider part of them twisting and pressing down to fit the holes. Even if they were ok, in my opinion Premium Hardwood in terms of pegs response didn’t stand a comparison with competitors. Posts of that board are made of wood. Some might say that it is a matter of taste and becoming accustomed, but Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 17 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review particularly their response is barely predictable and reduces joy of game. 2 pts for Mayday Games board. 5. Ditch and Rail Muzzies Tournament The rim of that board is the highest from all starters if you measure from the bottom of a ditch. A line between the edge of plywood (playing surface) and the edge of the rail is also the longest one among all boards. This helps keeping pucks within a board. There is a downside to this however. It reduces comfort of flicking when you put your palm (wrist) on the rail and fingers on the playing surface. Therefore I rate Muzziess 4.25 pts instead of 5. Wintersonne The rail at this board is shorter measuring from the inside then at Muzzies Tournament. The distance between the edge of surface and the edge of rail is also shorter, thereby a comfort of flicking is higher. Although this distance is the same as at Willard PRO but we noticed that pucks jumps out and bounce back more frequent while playing on that board. On balance I rate it 4.25 pts too. Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 18 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review Willard Pro The rail of it is pleasantly rounded and your palm is in comfortable position. Thick plywood of the playing surface helps in reducing bounce backs. There is one downside to its ditch however: side surface of the plywood (playing surface) is only sanded out, not prepared any further. The goal of it is moisture reducing effect. The side effect of this idea are wood grains in the ditch which can have adverse effect on discs and shots, especially if players like to pass discs through the ditch. This is more noticeable for new boards. 4.25 pts for Willard. Premium Hardwood Although inside surface of the ditch is uneven, this element of the board is first I can be positively disposed to. Unevenness doesn’t effect a game, disc jumps back and out quite rarely. However the rail is not rounded on the top, it is wide, which let your hand rest comfortably. 4.5 pts. 6. Discs Muzzies Tournament I have received natural wood and black set. They are simply not bad but It’s not the strongest Point of Muzzies Board. They can’t be marked 5 pts, because: natural seems to be a little more row than black ones, I could get only determined sort of them (flat, and natural-black set). As far as i know Murray is going to supply also convex-concave pucks. Just for now 4 pts, not more. Wintersonne Discs enclosed to the board stand out. they seem to be slightly heavier than these from Muzzies. The lacquer and colors looks rich and nice. However they are a little bit overpainted here and there, but these discs are consistent in general. They are convex/concave shaped. Before you learn to recognize sides, you can spin them on the board it works nice in most cases. You can also chose the color of your set. They are the most frequent used discs in our both practice and tournament games, besides Willard ones. 4.5 pts is how I assess them. Willard Pro We could chose from among many different colors. First they were all flat, but second time Willard supplied us with convex - concave. Pucks from Willard’s Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 19 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review offer are consistent and work fine. They look different then Jeske’s ones - more woody look, which in that terms share similarity with Muzzies discs. I promised an honest and impartial review, so one thing which stops me from giving 5 is the fact that in first delivery we received 2 sets which differed minimally in shape from other 2 sets. However all of them were playable and fulfill the same tournaments standard, we can only collate green and yellow discs, and black with red, but shouldn’t mix them. 4.5 pts. Premium Hardwood I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with disc of Mayday Games: Plenty of colors to choose, company can alternatively supply you with flat or convex concave. They looked good at the first glance. I thought I could mark them 5 pts. Further examination of different sets however, discovered failures in 3 sets on 5 regardless of whether it was premium or normal set. It is not the big issue as long as company enclose 14 discs per set, you can eliminated inapplicable discs. They are a little bit less consistent then Jeske’s and Willard’s ones but still not bad. I also found a green set to be more massive and covered with a different paint technic. However flat black-natural discs I received with the board, are good enough for playing tournament games. I assess 4.25 pts per saldo. Summery of the part: Willard Pro is a winner of this round - 28.75 pts, Muzzies Tournament and Wintersonne ties for 2nd place, both scoring 26.5 pts, the last place Premium Hardwood with 19 pts. V RECAPITULATION As I mentioned at the beginning these scores could be useful more for European Crokinole fans, especially score of Wintersonne concerning delivery time and price would be lower for customers outside EU. According to our rules and scores - the Champion is Willard Pro with 62.25 pts - the Runner up is Tischlerei Knels - Jeske Wintersonne scoring 62 pts - 3rd place for Muzzies Tournament - 59.75 pts - 4th place for Maydaygames Premium Hardwood - 48.25 pts Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 20 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review Strong and weak points: Muzzies Tornament Wintersonne + solid base construction + nice look (especially Blomelain edition) + very good service - sensitive surface - not the most comfortable hand position - waiting time for delivery (EU) + very good surface + no import tax - better price overall + quick delivery after order - shallow ditch - metal legs Premium Hardwood Willard Pro + very reliable service + surface + pegs + stability - n o t h i n g s i g n i fi c a n t b e s i d e s relatively higher overall price and long wait for delivery (EU) Elwis Szypulski + comfort for placing hand + not bad discs - unreliable info and service - availability - surface - pegs - quality overall - other things Boards Comparison, Page 21 Crokinole Boards Comparison Review Although the last Round selected the best board in itself and overall winner as well, It should be emphasized that all first three boards are very good. We have mentioned small drawbacks, but none of them are deal breakers. You can’t go wrong choosing any of them. They are ultimate boards available for Europeans, and our club uses all three boards. All of them can be use for any purpose, but choice depends on your need, patience, and sum of money you can spend on it. If you are looking for a board from motherland of Crokinole, decent one, with attractive appearance, on which you would play with your guests and family but you are not going to take part in most canadian tournaments, you are ready for wait and for import tax, then order a board from Muzzies, and you wouldn’t be disappointed. If you live within EU, and you are not so patient, and have no additional money for delivery and tax, and want a board of adequate quality, but not designed to attract your all guests, Wintersonne from Jeske will provide bang for your buck. If money and time are not a factors, and you would like to feel Canadian tournament standards or want to compete some Canadian players in the future, then Willard PRO is the way to go. What about Maydaygames Premium Hardwood board? Well, the bitter truth is that it stack up badly against the others boards. To be fair I can’t recommend this purchase whether or not you are well off. This board shouldn’t be compared with the others. It’s different league, and all failures disqualify it at the beginning. Even if you are looking something for entry level, chose one of three mentioned above boards. It will save your time, money, and disappointment. Especially don’t buy it for a gift. I don’t deny I saw some Maydaygames boards in normal condition, however they were not taken out from the package, but selected and prepared. There is a high probability that you would receive the board not fulfilling your expectations. THE END Elwis Szypulski Boards Comparison, Page 22
