short distance from our base. Jølster Rafting has a broad selection of activities. If your lust for adventure isn’t
satisfied after one, why stop? Many people come here to get the full package. Perhaps an exciting rafting trip
down Jølstra, combined with a barbeque in our wilderness camp, a hot bath in our wooden tubs, and a night in
our lavvo tents. Even though one-day adventures is the most common, more and more choose to stay for
several days to fully enjoy the activities nature offers in this area. We adjust our activities to the abilities and
wishes of our guests. Our prime goal is to make the natural environment of Norway accessible to you, and give
you an experience you won’t forget.
Activity
Description
RIVER RAFTING IN
JØLSTRA
This is real rafting! A brisk and challenging river with plenty of water spray, excitement and fun,
coupled with that wonderful sensation of risk that you've dreamed of. Our experienced guides take
you safely through the rapids. Also suitable for beginners. We vary the trip after water level, your
wishes and experience. After the trip we transport you back to the base by bus.
RIVER RAFTING
The one-day trip is among the best and most exciting offered in Scandinavia. You experience two
different rivers in beautiful surroundings. Includes a warm lunch served after the first leg on the
Stardalselva, followed by a grand finale on the Jølstra. We provide all the internal transportation.
DAY TRIP
RIVERBOARDING
Perhaps the most challenging of river sports, but you can decide for yourselves how extreme you
want it to be. It’s up to you to control the elements, of course under supervision of experienced
guides. There are no prerequisites. And you don't need to take the biggest rapids to have fun. To play
like a salmon in the waves is great fun.
PAINTBALL
Everybody can play paintball (minimum age), and its great fun. Strategy and cooperation can be
crucial for victory. Included: marker (gun), mask, overall, gloves and neck guard. All players must sign
a form on liability issues. Safety precautions are explained in detail, and rules of the game are agreed
with all players.
ABSEILING
Secured in a harness attached to the top rope this is a piece of cake for some, yet other get a high
pulse at just the thought of it! This is an amusing experience for almost everyone, and many stretch
their limits when they give this a try. Don’t let this chance pass you by. Our abseiling site lies at
Bjørset by the lake Jølstravatnet, with a great view of Jølster. We might bring bigger groups to a site
in the valley Våtedalen, where several people can abseil simultaneously.
GLACIER WALKS
The Haugabreen glacier is part of the Jostedalsbreen National Park, and is accessible from Stardalen
in Jølster. Great views of some of Jølster’s magnificent mountain and glacier landscapes. If you
continue to the summit of Snønipa, the 360-degree panorama is absolutely stunning when weather
conditions are favorable.

www.norway-adventures.com
Norway-AdvenTURes is a young company aiming to offer the ultimate natural experience in Norway for all kinds
of people. Norway-AdvenTURes was started because they discovered the magnificent multitude of natural
resources available in this coastal area with glaciers, mountains, fjords, cliffs, islands and the sea. And these
were not yet discovered by (inter)national tourists and realized, as a foreigner myself, that without proper
guiding this special area would remain unknown and untouched regardless of the number of people passing by
would never be able to enjoy this natural beauty. Simply because you won't find your way to these special
spots on your own.
Our main activities are mountain hiking and sea kayaking. Simply because almost everybody is able to do this
and enjoy the spectacular nature best this way. On a high mountain lake we have canoes for a surprisingly nice
trip. Other water activities such as sailing, (scuba) diving and waterskiing, sea rafting etc. are also available as
a natural result of crystal clear water, white sandy beaches and deep fjords. The sea, fjord and lakes are
loaded with fish and will not even disappoint the most experienced fisherman. Besides fishing we offer deer
hunting in spectacular natural surroundings. Mountain climbing and free riding on skies is only done by a very
few, this makes enjoying the endless possibilities even more fun.

Surfing is one of the fastest growing leisure activities, and there are now millions of surfers around the world.
Most people associate surfing with white beaches, coconuts, and swaying palm trees, but many of the world's
best waves are at latitudes which indicate quite different conditions. Norway's coast is a good example, and
that means we need some extra equipment in order to enjoy ourselves in the waves.
At Stadlandet you can find some great surf. Swells from both southwest and northwest hit the beautiful sandy
beach Ervikstranda, and this is is where you will find the most waves. Hoddevik, located 20- 30 minutes south
of Ervikstranda, is the best spot in west-swells. Hoddevik is also very good under extremely windy conditions
due to the tall mountains surrounding the spot and protecting it from heavy winds. Stad Surfing offer surf
lessons for beginners and the more advanced. Rentals available of boards, wetsuits and full suits.

the whole family can try surfing. Take a trip to Nordfjord,

Storm photography on the Nordfjord coast
‘Storm at Stad’ is a very familiar expression in Norway, but photographing
storms is about more than just standing outdoors in the middle of tempestuous
weather with gusting winds and an angry ocean. Outer Nordfjord carries many
traces of the forces of nature; the wind and weather have left visible marks on
the landscape. Thomas Bickhardt attends to the professional content of the
course: finding traces of storms to photograph, lectures and various equipment.
Course leader Thomas Bickhardt has photographed storms and the landscape in
Nordfjord for several years, and he has published the books ‘Storm ved Stad’
(Storm at Stad) (2007) and ‘Panorama Nordfjord’ (2009). The course concentrates
on dramatic composition, and how to tell the story of a storm using different
angles, lenses and cropping. See also bickfoto.no for more information about

Coastal walks
Mt. Hornelen and Kråkenes Lighthouse
Legend has it that every year on midsummer night witches gather here on Europe’s highest sea cliff, which
towers 860 metres above the sea. Thus you could argue that Mt. Hornelen is also one of Norway’s oldest
‘congress’ centres (since the witches’ gathering sounds not unlike an AGM). Ever since the first people settled
along the Norwegian coast, superstition has clung to this fascinating and unusual mountain, and it has always
been a landmark for seafarers. Today, Hornelen is a popular destination for walkers and climbers.

Sea kayaking
Our kayaks glide silently through the crystal-clear water. We take in the fantastic surroundings. The clear
water gives us a great view of the fish and plants beneath us. Birds perched on rocks, steep cliffs and
mountainsides, the odd cave and the open sea to the west. Two sea eagles circle high overhead. When the
tide is with us, the paddling is almost effortless. Halfway up the fjord, there is an island where we eat our
packed lunch directly beneath Mt. Hornelen’s dizzyingly steep cliff (860 metres). After lunch, we continue
westwards. The fjord becomes wider and wider, and the swell tells us that we have almost reached the open
sea. After a few hours, we glide into a bay with turquoise water and a white sandy beach surrounded by
steep, green cliffs. We feel almost like Robinson Crusoe in this exotic place, just below the Arctic Circle,
sitting around a campfire savouring the midnight sun.
