My father, HyunKwon Park, founded our company in April 1972. The first guitars were built in the basement of his home where he had just 20 square meters of space and a staff of 4. He soon chose Sungeum as the name for the guitars. In Korean it means “accomplishing the sound” and is a name which, in the Korean language, captured the spirit, passion and ethos of the company and its products. My father’s company enjoyed early success building classical guitars which soon acquired a reputation for excellence among local musicians. By 1978 they had outgrown their basement space and moved to bigger premises in Yangju city, just outside Seoul, in order to fulfill growing demand for the guitars. I joined my father in 1986 and the decision was made to take our guitars to the world market. I chose the name Crafter to represent the brand globally. To me, the name Crafter has connotations of high quality and also pays tribute to the craftsmen who create the guitars. The Crafter brand is now registered in more than 40 countries throughout the world. In 2009, we expanded again and built a bigger, state-of-the art guitar factory, in order to keep pace with demand. The move was the result of 5 years of planning and construction, and features modern facilities including leisure rooms, a spacious restaurant, gym, and a chapel for all the staff. Building in the same area as the previous workshop meant that Crafter could retain all of their loyal and highly trained staff. 4 | Crafter Catalog 2015 Although today’s guitars are produced using all the fantastic benefits of modern technology, a great amount hand craftwork still goes into the making of each one. More than 60,000 instruments leave our factory each year, and every single one of them has its own personality, just like the people who build them. Since the very start in 1972 we have pursued a program of continuous review and development and we are proud that our innovations, quality and value have resulted in the instrument that you have chosen ahead of so many others. Thank you again for choosing Crafter and we hope that your guitar will give you many years of good service and playing pleasure. A ANNIVERSARY GRAND AUDITORIUM We build a special grand auditorium acoustic electric every two years to celebrate the company’s anniversary. Our Grand Auditorium guitars are crafted with both comfort and sound in mind. The sloped shoulder allows for easy finger picking, and the full size body delivers the projection you would expect from a dreadnaught. Each of these anniversary guitars has a unique design on the fretboard and around the soundhole. Some of the designs are only built in small quantities, while some have become so iconic to our brand that we continue to offer them many years after they were initially introduced. 6 | Crafter Catalog 2015 Our acoustic electric Grand Auditoriums have a cutaway body, allowing better access for playing past the 12th fret. D J P DREADNAUGHT JUMBO SOUTHERN / SMALL JUMBO PARLOR Our dreadnaughts remain true to the heritage of what has made this body style so popular over the years. We build this time tested guitar style using a variety of tone woods on the top like cedar and German Engelmann spruce. Big bodies for a big sound. Our Jumbo Six and Twelve String guitars deliver everything you want in a jumbo body, fantastic volume and a big bass response. These bodies are slightly modified versions of our dreadnaught body. The southern jumbo has a more rounded shoulder than our dreadnaughts, and the small jumbo has a smaller waist, arched back and cutaway body style for higher fret access. On the back and sides we use mahogany, maple and rosewood. This gives any flat picker and strummer plenty to choose from. Available with solid spruce or cedar tops, and a rosewood or tiger maple back and sides. Modern vintage embodied, these guitars offer the look and sound of the parlor guitars first popular in the late 1800’s. Notable features like a smaller, slim waist body, slotted headstock and vintage oval tuners give our parlor guitars a retro style to match their warm mid range tone. Crafter Catalog 2015 | 7 O T C JB ORCHESTRA TRAVEL & CASTAWAY CLASSICAL JAZZ BOXES A smaller more comfortable body style. Our orchestra guitars are perfect for players looking for the comfort of a parlor guitar but with a little more substance and access past the 12th fret. For the guitarist on the go, who wants a real guitar wherever they go. While compact in size, the same attention to detail and craftsmanship found in our full size guitars can be found in our travel guitars as well. From traditional Spanish style bodies to thin bodies more akin to an electric guitar, we build a variety of nylon string guitars. Inspired by the classic American semihollow body guitars, our Jazz Boxes deliver the sound and feel sought after by so many guitarists. Tone woods include Sitka Spruce and Cedar tops and Mahogany, Rosewood, Dao, and Devil tree wood back and sides. Tiger Maple tops, backs and sides make these semi hollows warm and loud at the same time. Our acoustic electric orchestras feature a cutaway body, great for doing lead work and getting the most out of the entire fretboard. 8 | Crafter Catalog 2015 A solid top and arched back will make any of these guitars your best sounding traveling companion. B SLIM M SLIM ARCH & THIN BODY ALL SOLID / PROFESSIONAL BASS MANDOLIN Our Slim Arch series is the most versatile guitar in our lineup.
