A-level science Timeline for practical assessments 2016-2017 A-level EMPAs in Biology and Human Biology, Chemistry, and Physics from September 2016. Please be aware that there are no A-level ISAs available for 2016-2017. Please note that all students at a school or college must sit a particular written test on the same day. EMPA Re-sits * One re-sit* EMPA for AS and one re-sit* EMPA for A2, both marked by AQA Mar 2017 Jan 2017 May 2017 May 2017 5 January: 1 March: 1 May: 15 May: EMPA Teachers’ Notes, including tasks, published on Secure Key Materials (SKM) Task Sheet 1 and Task Sheet 2 published on SKM Written Test published on SKM Deadline for dispatch of EMPAs to examiners Exams Officer provides copies of the relevant Task Sheets to the teacher on the day students complete the practicals Exams Officer provides copies of the relevant Written Test to the teacher on the day students complete the Written Test Exams Officer makes two copies, one for the Head of Department and one for the technician Teachers can have sight of the Teachers’ Notes but no further copies made Written Tests must not be seen by the teacher until students sit the Written Test EMPA window for practical work: 1 March – 14 May EMPA window for Written Tests: 1 May – 14 May All students at a school/college must sit a particular Written Test on the same day Exams Officers and teachers must follow all of the administrative procedures outlined in the EMPA: Instructions for administration document in Teaching and learning resources/Teaching guidance on our website. All EMPA materials must be kept secure at all times. * Re-sits are only available to those students who have taken the qualification previously, or who had good reason not to have taken it when planned (such as illness). It is recognised that there are likely to be exceptions to these requirements, and schools/colleges should continue with their current entry patterns, for example taking AS over two years.
