Codes and Installation Standards Drywall & ShortSpan Grid Systems About Codes • provide guidelines for the design and construction of residential and commercial space • written and maintained by agencies that have no direct authority for enforcement • generally revised every three years • adopted, in full or in part, by municipalities that have enforcement powers Implementation Standards • define the materials and techniques to be used in complying to the Model Building Codes • in some cases may be part of the code itself (UBC and IBC) • typically referenced in the building specifications or drawings Always Check with Local Building Codes • municipalities do not necessarily adopt the latest version of a code • enforcement authorities decide which portions of a code will be applied • manufacturers and their agents do not have the authority to interpret codes • local authorities resolve issues that may arise from conflicting codes 2-25 For more information call 1 877 ARMSTRONG Drywall Grid System — Code and Installation Standards Drywall & ShortSpan Grid Systems ASTM ASTM ASTM ASTM ICC IBC DSA UL CISCA UBC NOA 2-26 C635 Standard Specification for the Manufacture, Performance, and Testing of Metal Suspension Systems for Acoustical Tile and Lay-in Panel Ceilings C636 Standard Practice for Installation of Metal Ceiling Suspension Systems for Acoustical Tile and Lay-in Panels C645 Standard Specification for Nonstructural Steel Framing Members C754 Standard Specification for Installation of Steel Framing Members to Receive Screw-Attached Gypsum Panel Products ESR-1289 International Code Council Evaluation Service International Building Code RR25348 City of Los Angeles Research Report PA105 Division of the State Architect (California) Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Rule: to form the 45 degree angle, the vertical location of the tension ring is always half the distance of the span at the structure. Single Yoke 45˚ 5/8” Type USS Flat Washer or Equivalent 5/8” Type USS Flat Washer or Equivalent NOTE: Maintain wire spacing at a maximum 4′ on center. 2-39 For more information call 1 877 ARMSTRONG Yoke Wire Hung Ceilings Drywall & ShortSpan Grid Systems Double Yoke 45 Max. 5/8” Type USS Flat Washer or Equivalent NOTE: Maintain wire spacing at a maximum 4′ on center. In some cases the trapeze may effect the ceiling height and must be kept small. In other cases steel studs may be used to span the distance required.
