These codes were designed to discriminate against African Americans. This Constitutional Amendment gave citizenship to African American men. This Constitutional Amendment guaranteed full citizenship & the rights that were guaranteed to citizens. A set of plans designed to help unify the country & re-build the South after the Civil War. This group favored punishing the South in their plan. These two presidents favored a more lenient approach to Reconstruction. Both of these plans called for 10% of Southerners to take an oath of loyalty to the U.S. in order for their state to join the Union. Reconstruction was considered a failure because of this. This period of time is generally known as Reconstruction. This election and Compromise Signified the end of Reconstruction. Southern plantation owners faced this problem during Reconstruction. This group of people were Southerners who supported Reconstruction. This group of people from The North, known for the bags they carried, were involved in government and business in the South. In this type of farming, a person worked the land in return for a portion of the crop. This organization managed all things relating to freedmen – from assisting with job placement to providing food & shelter. This group terrorized freedmen and whites who supported rights for freedmen. This system of farming was one in which farmers rented the land from the landowner, but was allowed to keep the crops grown on the land. African Americans were discriminated against under these set of laws after black codes were made illegal. This candidate for president ran against Rutherford B. Hayes. There were 5 of these districts set up around the South. The Reconstruction of the South can be compared to this current reconstruction and war effort. The Freedmen’s Bureau can be compared to this modern organization that responds to natural disasters & manages all matters pertaining to relief – from providing shelter to finding missing persons.
