PROSPECTUS Art in the Open: Furry & Feathered November 11th – December 12th Thomasville Center for the Arts introduces Art in the Open: a public art program created to promote public art in the new Creative District, by complimenting events, stimulating growth and economic development in underdeveloped corridors, and bringing interest to our Historic Downtown. Fiber art is the focus of the newest public art exhibition in Thomasville’s new Creative District. Twenty teams of fiber artists (1-3/team & tree) will compete to create a fiber art installation using 20 trees along the W. Jackson Street corridor to stage a Wildlife Yarn Bomb. Each team will create a fiber sleeve for the tree trunk with an embellishment of wildlife animals and/or their habitat or food sources that are felted, knitted, quilted, crocheted, or created with any other form of fiber art. During the weekend of November 11th, the streets will come alive with fiber art demonstrations, wildlife art, and a special FSU Public Art installation that features life sized woodcut wildlife native to our Red Hills Region. Details Art in the Open: Furry & Feathered offers the chance for fiber artists to showcase their best work during Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival (PWAF), as well as during Victorian Christmas, along the W. Jackson Street corridor in Thomasville’s new Creative District. The talented pool of fiber artists will be chosen by a juried panel. Wildlife Yarn Bomb: Each team must have at least one member, and up to three total. All official team members must be 18 years of age and older to be eligible as a team member, however all ages are encouraged to participate. Each team is challenged to create a fiber art sleeve for the tree trunk (8 skeins of yarn per tree will be provided for this—specific colors defined by TCA & Fuzzy Goat will be used for the tree trunk), and may be crocheted, knitted, or felted. Each tree will be embellished with wildlife animals and/or their habitats or food sources that are felted, knitted or created with any other form of fiber art, including quilting. Lights may be included in your design but they must be solar or battery-powered LED lights.
