Naming of Civic Asset - White Pine Mill Pump Station - 11835

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
On February 15, 2016, the Civic Asset Naming Committee passed a motion to recommend the
name “White Pine Mill Pump Station” for the sanitary sewer pump station located in the East
Fraser Lands River District area (as shown in Appendix A and B).
The White Pine name acknowledges the Canadian White Pine Mill. Located on the Fraser River
in Vancouver, the mill began operation in 1923 and was the first sawmill owned and operated
by H.R. MacMillan. By the 1930s, MacMillan acquired the neighbouring Dominion Mill, built by
Julius Bloedel in 1910, creating one of the largest mill operations on the Pacific Coast. It
closed in the early 2000s.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
There are no financial implications. The supply and installation of the signage is included as
part of the pump station design and specification. The pump station is being constructed by
Park Lane as the developer of the East Fraser Lands under their site servicing obligations.
CONCLUSION
The Civic Asset Naming Committee recommends Council approve the name “White Pine Mill
Pump Station” for the City-owned sanitary pump station located in the East Fraser Lands River
District area.
