Co-sponsoring
APEC economies
Canada; Hong Kong, China; Japan; Republic of Korea; Thailand
 The project will support the implementation and development of cleaner
power generation technologies in APEC economies.
Project summary
 This project will deliver a workshop addressing the environmental and
health impacts across the lifespan of a power generation investment
and introduce APEC economies to practical tools to assess, quantify,
and communicate the impacts and costs of different power generation
options.
 The project seeks to enable APEC economies to:
- Formulate business cases for cleaner fossil-fuel and renewable
energy investments;
- Select emerging technologies for accelerated development;
- Defend the health and environmental benefits of clean air and
energy policies

APEC economies
 The project team will be on-site investigated at least three case studies
such as grid connected solar PV system for residential home, off-grid
connected solar PV system at remote area and solar PV farm for power
generation.
 Two rounds of workshops over two years will be conducted for in-depth
discussion, sharing ideas, gathering information and developing the
Project summary
report and guideline of economic and LCA of solar PV system in these
regions.
 The workshops will be attended by solar PV manufacturers, PV
installers, financial institutions and related policy makers in APEC
region.
 The tool of analysis used is SimaPro and Enco Invent database system.

APEC economies
 The PRLCE responds to the Energy Ministers’ instruction from their
meeting in Fukui, Japan in 2010; to explore mechanisms to encourage
APEC economies to set individual goals and action plans for
introducing low-emission power sources.
 A peer review team comprised of experts on low-carbon energy supply
policy from APEC member economies will review goals and policies to
Project summary
promote low-carbon energy supply. The review team will provide
recommendations based on this and assist with effective policy making
in this area as well as the effective formulation of action plans, etc.
 Low-emission power sources include renewable, nuclear and fossil fuel
with carbon capture and storage. The scope of review will be decided
depending on the host economy’s priorities. One PRLCE is planned in
Papua New Guinea with a focus on hydro power generation in 2017.

economy
Co-sponsoring
Hong Kong, China; USA
APEC economies
 This project is planning to provide more technical assistance on the
deployment of renewable energy in a deeper way by doing technical
analysis after a comprehensive summary and survey work.
Comprehensive review on the previous works of EWG and relevant
sub-fora will be done, to summarize and categorize information of
technologies, policies, programs and experiences.
Project summary
 Survey study on the RE roadmap based on various scenarios need to
be carried out, and technical analysis will be done using modelling
approach.
 Seminars and workshop will be held for information collecting and
sharing. Training courses will be organized for technical capacity
buildings to policy makers and relevant stakeholders.

5. Improving User-Side Clean Energy Consumption in the
APEC Region by Utilizing Distributed Solar PV and Energy
Storage Systems
Proposing APEC
economy
People’s Republic of China
Co-sponsoring
Japan; Chinese Taipei
APEC economies
 This project seeks to develop distributed “solar-plus-PV” models that
will promote renewable energy growth and strengthen energy security
and resilience in the APEC region.
Project summary
 A workshop is scheduled for November 2017 in Beijing. The project will
result in a final report describing suitable technologies, outlining
business models and economic viability, and drafting policy
recommendations.
 The project aims to inform stakeholders about the potential benefits of
energy storage in distributed energy systems, and facilitate
connections between policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers
to promote understanding and deployment of distributed “solar-plusPV” models that support renewable energy penetration and
sustainable development in the APEC region.
