ABC Chant: It’s fun to learn the ABC’s with this chant.
Children read the ABC’s and teacher reads the verse.
Emergent readers can read the whole chant alone.
Mini-book: Color, cut apart and staple into a little booklet
that the children can take home.
Back To School Letter: Send this letter to your new students
to introduce a fun beginning of the year theme.
Pirate Name Badge: Send the badge home in the letter for
the child to wear the first day of school.
Pirate Ship: Use a large cardboard box to make a pirate
ship. Then take pictures of the children standing by it.
Headband and Eye Patch: Make headbands out of old
cotton fabric triangles, and eye patches out of black foam
and yarn.
Connections Sheet: This worksheet helps connect a book to
the child’s world.
Retelling Sheet: Help the children retell a story.
Math Page: Reinforce the concept of greater than, less
than.
100 Chart: This chart is handy to use when teaching about
the numbers 1 to 100, even and odd numbers, and patterns.
Sizing Sheet: Cut out the pirates and glue to sentence strip,
largest to smallest, or smallest to largest.
Reading Chart: Use this chart to keep track of the reading a
child has done all month.

Ahoy,
Matey!
Books, Books, Books!
When I read a book,
I can travel afar.
I can visit a kingdom
Or drive a race car.
I can be an astronaut,
Or a pirate, too.
Just reading a book
Makes it all seem true!
