Profurl SPINEX Top Down Furler Installation
INSTALLATION MANUAL YOU NEED 1- Knife 2- Phillips Screw driver YOU HAVE 1- Cable with its Balls and Lower Fitting 4- Loctite : Threadlocker 5- Allen Key 2- Furling Unit and its Contituous Line with Ratchet Block and Purchase 6- Two Lashings Lines 7- Three Set Screws 3- Asymmetric Spinnaker 3- Top Fitting 8- Wood Screw STEP - 1 : Installation of the cable: Determining the correct Length of the Cable. The Procedure for determining your CABLE Length and terminating, will start by installing the Cable UPSIDE DOWN : Top Fitting is inserted into Drive Unit and Bottom Fitting with Swivel is hoisted with Halyard: 1-A Insert the TOP FITTING into Drive Unit: as shown: Keep Fitting and Rubber Band in place 1-C Connect the SWIVEL to the Spinnaker Halyard and HOIST the CABLE Block to Block 1-B Connect the LOWER FITTING to the Swivel : Connect the DRIVE UNIT to the Bow Fitting : seperate from cable: STEP - 2 2-A Take the LOWER END of the cable and pull it down firmly, while holding it close to the terminal fitting, in order to get a rough length. 10 2 1 1 2-B Pick the BALL that matches the TOP of the Fitting as shown : 2 ALL 2-C REMOVE all the Balls below and 10 above : Be Careful not to loose the balls off the Cable 2-D Disconnect the FITTING From the Drive Unit. Keep the Rubber Band in place STEP - 3 Take the TOP FITTING in your hand facing the PROFURL Logo : 3-A Feed the CABLE inside, starting on the LEFT : 3-B STEP - 3-C 3-D 3 … continuing FEED the Cable until the Balls are PACKED as much as possible : PUT the temporary WOOD SCREW through the hole above the Logo and throuh the tail of the rope : Make sure you are going through the center of the core. Make sure you have a minimum of 5 inches Tail >5 ’’ STEP - 4-A 4 Connect the FITTING as before to the Furling Unit : In the UPSIDE down position. The cable must look straight all the way up. 4-B HOIST the CABLE Upside Down using a Winch to tension the HALYARD and CABLE I f you are BLOCK to BLOCK: your cable is too long : 3 Proceed to STEP again and remove a few more balls. The goal is to have the fitting as close to the block to block position as possible. STEP - 5 While the CABLE is hoisted and still under Tension: 2 4 nd • 1 : Insert the Lower SCREW with LOCTITE: th st 5-A 3 important to Fit the Lower SCREW First • 2 nd: • 3 rd: Remove the WOOD SCREW and DISCARD Then Fit Second Screw with LOCTITE • 4 : Then Third, with LOCTITE th The SCREWS should be almost flush. The LOCTITE is a Threadlocker. 1 rd st Work screws all the way in, un8l flush with body. STEP - 5-B 5… continuing - DROP the CABLE on the Deck - Cut the TAIL End of the Cable using a sharp serrated Knife insert into the CUT SLOT. To effectively cut the tail end of the cable only, try twisting the tail, while cutting, this will help avoid any unwanted cuts to the main cable. We Suggest a Wichard Knife ref. 10041 STEP - 6-A 6 Attach the cable to the drive unit and swivel in the UPRIGHT position LASH the HEAD of your ASYMMETRIC SPINNAKER to the TOP FITTING. 6-B As Shown: Through the Thimble Eye bringing the sail as close to the fitting as possible : STEP - 6 … continuing There are For Sails with LUFF LENGTH 98% to length: OPTION 3 options to ATTACH the TACK which depend on the LUFF LENGTH of your ASYMMETRIC SPINNAKER : 1 For FIXED LUFF 2 103% of cable Please note the Lashing: -must not be longer than 36 inches - must not tension the luff of the sail With the use of the optional MX shackle for LUFF LENGTH shorter than 98% of cable length: For ADJUSTABLE TACK HEIGHT OPTION 6-C OPTION For Sails with LUFF LENGTH 103% of cable length or greater: 3 It is not necessary to tension the line before furling. BUT it is necessary to release the line to finish the furl. FINAL STEP and FIRST FURL/UNFURL: First HOIST: First FURL: First UNFURL: This is the most difficult part of the installation : - Tension the Furling Line purchase to ensure the Furling Line is engaged into the Drive Unit - Release the Furling Line Purchase to a point where the Furling Line is Slack. This disengages the Furling Line from the Drive Unit. - Choose weather conditions that are very light - Ensure sail is not twisted around sheets and tack - Prepare your Furling Line: Run it along the deck, both lines parallel, loose the purchase and connect the snap hook as far aft as you can. - Hoist the Cable and Sail together - Pull on the correct side of the Furling Line ensuring you hear the Ratchet Block Clicking : The Ratchet Block is a means of indication of which direction the Cable is turning. If you always furl in the same direction with the Ratchet Block clicking, the Cable will develop a Torsional memory and become more efficient over time. - Furl the Entire Sail away, and allow the sheets to wrap around the furled sail, spiraling down, to avoid the wind from trying to unfurl the sail. - Pull on Leeward Sheet as sail unrolls - As the wind catches the sail, it will accelerate the unrolling until fully deployed. You can expect your sail to fully deployed in less than 3 seconds. - If you find the sail is not unrolling when you pull on the sheet: o first check that the furling line is slack, if this does not solve the problem then: o pull on the furling line in the direction of Furl (Ratchet Block clicking) this will release the sail.
