WELCOME LETTER
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILLIAM VELA
This year the MsFF continues it’s tradition in welcoming some of the world’s brightest independent, local,
national, and international filmmakers to showcase the some of the very best in short filmmaking.
Over 850 film submissions from 40+ countries all over the world flooded our servers this year making the
official selection process of our 14th edition quite a difficult task. Since January of this year we have been
working incessantly behind the scenes reviewing every submission, gauging the unique plot points, cinematography, and art direction and editing expertise of each short. A few painstaking decisions were made in the
process, but after careful consideration we managed to narrow it down to 55 officially selected short films.
We then passed the torch to our 30 esteemed judges for deliberation, and Voila! The final selections for each
genre were made along with an overall festival winner. This year we jazzed up the judging process and in
doing so, a new award, the Director’s Choice, was born! The Director’s Choice will be awarded to a filmmaker
whose work was so superior that merely defining it by its genre was not enough.
It was both a pleasure and an honor to have been able to select each of these films and to that end, I want
to thank all of those who have participated in the MsFF this year. Truth be told, it is the filmmakers who
remain the beating heart of this festival and I would like to congratulate them all on this accomplishment. We
commend those who were not given the opportunity to participate in this year’s Festival for still supporting
us, and we encourage you all to never let the spark of creativity grow dull. Each year, the MsFF blossoms into
something greater than the last as does it’s refreshing competitive edge.
To the Festival team: Sarah, Paola, Georgina, Beatriz, Esteban, Paige our board of advisors and all the volunteers – Thank you! It’s more than just work. There is no sum of money in the world that could purchase the

complexities behind our flickering moral compass, the pain of
isolation, and the overarching idea that we are the sole masters
of ourselves.

The beauty of the Miami melting pot is that it can be heard,
felt, and seen. The tropical atmosphere, endearing dialect, and
bouillabaisse of people cohabitating here under the sun make it
one of the most unique cities on Earth. These six locally grown
films visually demonstrate the south Florida aesthetic while
also capturing the values, humor, and realities of residing here.
