Johnny Winter’s Roots
album was released

Neighborhood Theatre
NoDa Arts District
Live Bootleg Series Volume 8
(Limited Edition)!
(North Davidson & 36th Streets)
Box Office / Voicemail: 704-358-9298
The Texas guitar tradition runs deep. A gutsy school of blues playing, marked by
thick tones, aggressive attack and tons of technique, all delivered in a flamboyant,
swaggering style that is endemic to the Lone Star State.
The tradition of the Texas guitar slinger has lived on. The one name that ranks at
the top of that exclusive list is Johnny Winter, an international ambassador for
rocking Texas blues and still going strong.

JANIVA MAGNESS & BETH McKEE
FRIDAY—JULY 20
The Evening Muse
NoDa Arts District
(North Davidson & 36th Streets)
704-376-3737
www.theeveningmuse.com
Janiva Magness has a voice that’s made for the blues. It possesses an earthy, raw honesty and beauty born
from her life experience. A charismatic performer known for her electrifying live shows, Magness is a gutsy and
dynamic musical powerhouse. Last year, Magness was nominated for four 2011 Blues Music Awards Previously,
she won the coveted 2009 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and for Contemporary Blues
Female Artist of the Year, an honor she also received in 2006 and 2007.
Beth McKee has lived through and triumphed over the trials of life, and sings of it all to her audience in a shared
but newly-discovered language. Accented by the sounds of Louisiana and the blues, R&B and the swamp, her
voice reaches audiences from all backgrounds and times, yet always in the same places in the soul.
“I am sincere and my music is heartfelt. Front porch, back porch, down home all over the world. I can sing but I
don’t over sing. I can play but I’m not fancy.”

GINA SICILIA
FRIDAY—JULY 13
The Double Door Inn
Opening:
Nita B & Her Swingin’ Soiree
Young Philadelphia songstress Gina Sicilia exploded
onto the scene in 2007. She was heralded as a
distinctive new voice in the Blues, as well as an
insightful songwriter and interpreter of neglected
classics in the Rhythm & Blues canon. In 2008 she
was nominated for “Best New Artist Debut” at
the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, Tennessee.
With the release of her third CD in 2011, Gina
broadens her stylistic palette, infusing even more
Soul and Americana into her bedrock influences of
Blues and R&B.
Gina’s singing and songwriting continue to break
new ground, showing remarkable depth, power,
and seemingly unstoppable growth. Now 25 years
old, the genre-defying Gina Sicilia continues to
smash pigeonholes into kindling and redefine the
boundaries of soulful music.
LEFTY WILLIAMS
THURSDAY—JULY 19
The Evening Muse ~ 8:00pm
in the NoDa Arts District
Not just a great one-armed guitar player, a great guitar player.
A skilled guitarist with over two decades of experience, Lefty Williams holds songcraft and musicianship at a
premium. By emphasizing each equally on his ironically titled sophomore album Snake Oil, he engages and
enlightens the listener. In turn, we fall for Williams’ powerful guitar licks and candid songs,
With the help of a homemade prosthetic and his dad showing him chords, Lefty became am accomplished selftaught guitarist, and by age 11 was playing in bands. In 1998 he made his way to the Atlanta Institute of Music
and graduated with honors. Over the years he has played many styles, learning something from them all.
This knowledge served him well as he grew into the bluesy, jazzy style he plays today, which nods to Jimi
Hendrix, Albert King, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Miles Davis, Stevie Ray Vaughn and early Led Zeppelin—all artists
that understand the importance of a great song. Lefty also heeded their performances, and worked to construct
a combustible live show with the Lefty Williams Band, which quickly became a big draw at local and regional
clubs in the Southeast. His band has also opened for the likes of Gov’t Mule, Tim Reynolds, Little Feat, Jimbo
Mathus, Col. Bruce and the Quark Alliance, and the Chris Duarte Group.
“Let’s just make some cool music,” he says. “That’s all I’ve ever really cared about.”
