PUBLIC NOTICE
To ensure a safe drinking water supply, Lake City
Utilities will be adding chlorine to the water system
from August 17th through August 24th. The addition of chlorine to disinfect water can react with
iron and/or manganese, creating a black or reddish
discoloration, but does not cause a health concern. Citizens can let the water run a few minutes
to flush faucets of discolored water before using
for cooking or laundry. Use of chlorine can cause
problems in fish tanks and commercial operations
such as bait shops. It is recommended that these
uses find an alternate source of water during this
period or use commercially available chemicals
that neutralize chlorine. Presence of chlorine will
remain a few days following the treatment period.
