Whether a vessel receives the NTM’s in paper or digital format, the corrections still need to be applied to the
navigational charts. For that purpose we have developed a Chart Correction Log functionality in our digital chart

Chartplanner software, and review, list and manage their corrections.

paper to digital Navigation in the coming years. The use of officially approved ENC’s is the standard. Finding the right balance
between the digital chart management tools, ECDIS hardware and communication systems will proof to be the biggest

For pre-paid services such our ENC-Online service you need to update weekly and every time you install new permits.

ENC updates are crucial to keeping your vessel ECDIS
compliant. We have now developed a 3rd alternative
for the retrieval of digital ENC updates. This service is
called ENC4SAT and is only available for vessels that
have a V-SAT communication system. ENC4SAT is an
application developed by Datema that automatically
downloads ENC updates from a designated Datema
server. The ENC4SAT application downloads the latest
ENC chart update and exports the update automatically
to a USB device, allowing you to transfer the update to
the ECDIS. Provided this is done weekly, the application
only downloads the differences between the 2 weekly
updates, and not the cumulative update file. This way
the ENC update downloads are reduced to a minimum.
The base CD’s will not be downloaded, these will
continue to be delivered in combination with the weekly
ENC update package.

The weekly edition of the Admiralty Notices to Mariners
contains information which allows the mariner to keep
his Admiralty published Charts and Publications up-todate. The full NTM booklet in digital format is available
and can be retrieved via our Chartplanner platform and

plugin needs to be installed. This Chartplanner NTM
plugin is available via our Digital back office in Delfzijl
as a download, or can be send to you via CD-ROM.
Retrieving the relevant T&P notices for the upcoming
voyages is a very time consuming task. Datema has
developed a simple and effective T&P solution within
our Chartplanner platform, whereby all in force

Compass adjustment is needed to minimise the influence of the
ship to the magnetic compasses ability to seek the earth’s magnetic north. The ship as a whole is a magnet of it’s own and has, on
location of the magnetic compass binnacle, a certain direction and
strength. This causes the compass not to show the actual magnetic
north and, more importantly, reduces the compasses ability to seek
the magnet north (magnetic moment).
That’s why ships needs compass adjustment; to reduce the residual
deviation to a minimum and have a properly working compass
which can be used for navigation when all other means of navigation are not
available. After all, the magnetic compass is all that’s left if electric
power supply is not available. Note that it’s not the compass itself
that is being adjusted for, but the ship’s magnetism on location of
the magnetic compass.

magnetic compasses. Our specialists will repair, certify and adjust not
only your compasses but all your nautical equipment.
Servicing and maintenance
of nautical equipment
Today, Datema employs three qualified compass adjusters in both
Rotterdam and Delfzijl. ISO standard 25862 defines design criteria
as well as type- and individual testing criteria for marine magnetic
compasses. It also states when compasses need adjustment.
Magnetic compasses should be adjusted
by a qualified compass adjuster when:
• they are first installed;
• they become unreliable;
• repairs or structural alterations have been made to the ship that
could affect it’s permanent and/or
induced magnetism;
• electrical or magnetic equipment close to the compass is added,
removed or altered;
• the recorded deviations are excessive or when the compass
shows physical defects; or
• at any other time deemed necessary by the master for the safety
of navigation.
All magnetic compasses shall be swung and adjusted no less often
than:
• every two years;
• after dry docking; or
• after significant structural work.
