Market Update:
Week of July 3rd, 2017
Local:
Local Broccoli is now available, quality is excellent! The rain has delayed celery harvest, very limited supply at the
moment. Local Asparagus has now come to an end. Local beans starting quality excellent, limited supplies at the
moment expect supplies to improve in the next couple weeks.

Currently coming from Peru. We will be in a bit of a gap until California fruit starts in August.
Stone fruit
Peaches, Nectarines, Plums, & Apricots
Peaches are available now from New Jersey; they are predicting a large crop this year which should keep us going until the
local season starts in about 2 weeks. We have some new varieties of Nectarines starting this week out of California with a
lot of volume expected for this week on Yellow and White fleshed fruit; promote! The quality is improving on Plums as we
get into new varieties in California. We will also start with Pluots this week (hybrid Plum). Washington Apricots are expected
the second week of July with a steady supply from there. Stay tuned.
Cherries
Cherries out of Washington, the quality is excellent!
Citrus
Oranges
Carrying oranges from Spain again this week, continuing market shortage and fluctuation still exists, expect this trend to
continue for at least the next three weeks and possibly longer.

Juice Oranges
Florida oranges in, Expect prices to remain high.
Grapefruit
We are strictly into South African fruit now. While we are currently meeting the demands, we could see a gap in July. We
will see a turn in sizing, larger fruit and less smaller fruit.
Clementines
This week should be our final week for Gold Nuggets from California. We are receiving steady supplies of Clementines from
South Africa for the next 3-4 weeks. We will have Clementines from Chile in about 3-4 weeks as well.
Lemons
Looks like the market is getting a little easier. Prices may come down slightly but movement is still good and supply is still
just fair from the growing areas. It wouldn’t take much to send this market up again.
Limes
Supplies are steady and the market is stable. No changes expected.
Berries
Blackberries
The market is short and we are being heavily prorated for the next week.
Raspberries
The market is very short and we expect prices to be volatile for the next week. Quality remains very good. Local Raspberries
are expected this week with small volumes, but should steadily increase as we head into July.
Strawberries
Local strawberries remain their quality and flavor. The July 4th holiday will affect labour in California this week. Expect this
market to strengthen up and prices will continue to increase over the next two weeks. Local Strawberries are facing a very
unsettled market. Quality issues will be evident on fruit that is priced lower.
Blueberries
Blueberries are tight this week due to weather in New Jersey, BC fruit still about a week away.
Vine and Tropical
Grapes
Good time for grapes, there is a lot of fruit coming from Mexico, quality is very good. Red, green and black seedless grapes
available along with red globes.
Pineapples
Markets are tightening up a little however, good volumes are still available. Expect to see market prices slightly higher for
week 27 and into week 28.
Mangoes
Mexican Mangoes continue this week, both Tommy and Ataulfo varieties. Mexico is still showing signs of a strong season .
Bananas
Prices are now stable as supply and demand are back in line. Plantains are expected to be tight until week 25.
Papaya
We continue with Brazilian, no market change.
Avocados
Avocado prices remain stable for next week. Larger sizing getting tighter. Most of our fruit is new crop out of Jalisco.
Currently carrying a 12 count.
Watermelon
No price changes expected this week on Watermelon. The warmer weather should help drive sales at store level.
Cantaloupes & Honeydews
There is a gap in the market due to the heat wave in southern California. We expect to transition to new area by the end of
the week. *Special Alert – Due to shortage cantaloupe pricing has increased significantly this week!

Kiwi
We will continue with Chilean Kiwi with availability on both Green and Gold fruit. New Zealand "Zespri" Kiwi is available
now. Prices are high but these are the crème de la crème of Kiwifruit.
Vegetables
Broccoli
Ontario Broccoli now available, quality is excellent.
Cauliflower
The market has come off with good promotional opportunities! Ask you sales person. Quality is very good .
Celery
The market continues to be very strong, local celery has started in a very small way, the rain has delayed harvest.
Zucchini
Ontario Zucchini is now available, both yellow and green variety.
Corn
We continue with Georgia crop this week. The quality is excellent.
Eggplant
The market is short with limited availability this week as we wait for New Jersey and Carolina fruit to begin. Also available
fresh baby eggplant in a variety of colours including black, white and graffiti, excellent quality!
Asparagus
Local season has come to an end and we’ve started with Peruvian Asparagus this week.
Beans
Local beans have started with very good quality, Availability is limited and prices are high but shouldn’t last too long.
Hot House Peppers
Orange peppers are tight this week, expect pricing to increase.
Seedless Cucumbers
Ask us about ad pricing for conventional and mini Cucumbers both out of Ontario.
Lettuce
Iceberg Lettuce
In full production of Canada lettuce, out of Quebec, great sizing and quality.
Romaine & Romaine Hearts
Quebec has started, quality is improving daily.
Red & Green Leaf Lettuce
Quebec crop is very good.
Tomatoes
Hot House & Cluster Tomatoes
Remain strong with good demand, may see price fluctuations due to both holidays.
Field Tomatoes
Continuing this week out of North and South Carolina and California Beefsteak. The quality is good with a wide range of
size. Local field tomatoes are a few weeks away.
Roma Tomatoes
Roma tomatoes remain short and prices are up.
Grape/Cherry Tomatoes
Grape tomatoes have come off slightly but demand is still strong. Product quality is at its finest. Look for Yellow and
Medley Grape Tomatoes.
Onions, Carrots, Potatoes
Cooking Onions
The local deal is coming to an end and volumes are getting smaller and smaller as the end of the season approaches. We
will continue with 50lb Cooking Onions out of the US next week.

Green Onions
Out of Mexico. The price looks average for this time of year.
Spanish Onions
We continue with New Crop Spanish and Red Onions out of California this week, Jumbo and Colossal.
Red Onions
We have new crop of jumbo red onions from California. The price will be steady.
Vidalia Onions
A BBQ staple! Sweet Vidalia Onions are available now from Georgia. The quality is excellent and pricing is very attractive;
promote!
Carrots
Currently available out of Israel, nice colour and sizing, great for juicing.
Potatoes
The season out of PEI is coming to an end. Recently in Pure Gold, yellow flesh, great for frying! We have also brought in
the Hillspring label, which is a Burbank Russet.
