We Are Growing
BayPort Credit Union has had an exciting summer. During the month of May, we introduced
two new locations to better serve our members. This brings our total number of branches to 24.
First, we are pleased to announce our merger with Norfolk Virginia Postal Credit Union
effective May 1, 2016. We welcome the NVPCU membership and staff to BayPort. Former
NVPCU members will notice the familiar faces of NVPCU staff members that have accepted
positions at BayPort.
Second, we are proud to partner with Jim’s Local Market in the Southeast Community of
Newport News. BayPort has opened an on-site credit union branch to serve staff and local
community members that have limited access to a grocery store and a financial institution. In
addition to the on-site branch, we will host financial seminars for community members to assist
them in meeting their financial goals.

Creating Financial Success in Our Community
You may have noticed BayPort focusing on financial education over the last several years.
We have always been advocates of members learning how to make their money work for them.
But we are also part of this awesome Greater Hampton Roads community and wanted to spread
smart money skills to all of our community members, not just those that are BayPort members.
We realize that the more our community knows as a whole, the better our economic development in this area will be, and that’s good news for everyone.
So how can we help educate the community as a whole? We have deployed several new and
exciting initiatives to do just this. We offer financial and retirement workshops at specific locations open to members and non-members alike; we will come to your business or organization
to provide on-site financial workshops to address topics important to your colleagues; and we
offer several options for the youth in our area to join fun and interactive games to help better
2016 Financial Football Camp understand budgeting and real-life finances. The latter has recently exploded as we have hosted
five Financial Football Camps and opened Student-Run Credit Unions in 13 local schools as of the end of the 2015-2016 school
year. And we are not slowing down. In fact, we are on track to open over 30 Student-Run Credit Unions during the 2016-2017
school year.
In addition to ramping up programs we already have in
place, we hosted our very first Reality Fair at York High
School. Seniors of York High were invited to attend a Reality
Fair on-campus with the help of 40 BayPort staff volunteers.
Students were assigned a “life” when they entered showing
their profession, salary, marital status, and whether or not they
had children. Students then moved from table to table selecting a home, car, and furnishings, as well as budgeting for groceries, clothing and personal hygiene, and of course, daycare!
At the end, the goal was to have enough money to pay your

More Than $60,000 in Scholarships
Awarded to Members
Each year, BayPort Credit Union awards more than $60,000 to deserving scholastic recipients.
The selected individuals attended our annual scholarship banquet Thursday, May 26, 2016 at
the Newport News Marriott at City Center.
This year’s banquet honored 38 winners from across the Greater Hampton Roads area and beyond. Former BayPort Scholarship recipient, Bethany Bowen Barto, was the guest speaker and
shared how she has used her experience of growing up with type 1 Diabetes to make a positive
difference in the diabetes community while pursuing her Master’s degree in Nursing.
