Welcome to Contra Costa College Athletics
Contra Costa College Comet Fans,
Contra Costa Comets
To the Community,
I want to express my sincere gratitude to all Comet
supporters for your continued support of our
athletic programs. The College and surrounding
community have enjoyed a longstanding tradition of
excellence by our athletic teams. At Contra Costa
College, we strive to have our programs epitomize
outstanding athletic performance and outstanding
academic performance and I have no doubt that our
athletics programs will continue to be competitive
on both fronts.
All of our student athletes are full-time students. That means that in addition to the hours of
time spent in practice and competition, they must
prepare for at least 12 hours of in-class time in addition to 24-48 or more hours of study. As you can
see, they are a dedicated group and their ability to
manage a strenuous athletics schedule and off-field
responsibilities is a huge accomplishment if done
properly. We are proud of the number of athletes
who are continuing their education at four year
institutions which is a testament to their dedication
to meeting their educational goals.
I ask that you continue to support all of our
teams over the course of the 2015 -2016 academic
year. Your support means a great deal to the
athletes and the college. We have an outstanding
group of coaches, staff, managers and professors
who work hard to ensure that the athletes are well
prepared to compete week in and week out of their
season. Please attend as many athletic events as
you are able and we promise that the proud tradition of Contra Costa College athletics will be displayed. Thanks so much for your support of Contra
Costa College. GO COMETS!GO COMETS!
Thank you for your support
of the outstanding athletic
programs here at Contra Costa
College. Whether you are one
of our students, a family member, or community supporter,
you are a Comet and an important part of the Contra Costa
College family. Herschel Walker
once said, “If you train hard,
you’ll not only be hard, you’ll
be hard to beat.” I believe this
is true in competition and the
classroom. I’m proud to serve
in a college community with a
long tradition of providing opportunities for student athletes
to achieve both academic and
athletic excellence. Whether
on the field, in the classroom or
their career, I know our students have the capacity to win
in all aspects of their lives.
John H. Wade II has been
the Sr. Academic Manager/
Athletic Director at Contra
Costa College since 2001, and
he came to CCC from the
University of San Francisco.
John has extensive knowledge
of intercollegiate athletics,
having served for 17 years as a
coach at Eastern Washington
University, the University of the
Pacific in Stockton, University
of California at Santa Barbara,
and the University of San
Francisco. He has seen The
Comets win Championships
in Women’s Basketball, Men’s
soccer, Men’s Basketball and
Football over his tenure. He
has seen numerous student
athletes reach their goals of
college graduation, certificate
completion and transfer
while at CCC. “Contra Costa
College is a great opportunity,
with an outstanding tradition
in intercollegiate athletics. We
want students/athletes to put
CCC and the community first.
Students, who appreciate the
total college experience both
academically and athletically,
discover that is what
we offer at CCC.”

2015 CCC Comet Football
Coaching and Support Staff
Welcome to 2015
Comet Football!
“Contra Costa College is a
wonderful academic institution
where I recently received my AA
degree, and I plan on having my players follow suit
by making sure they graduate. We are striving to
rebuild this program with a focus on local talent and
making CCC the place to be. My main objective
is not only to win games, but more importantly to
have our players graduate and move on to 4-year
universities. With the help of my wonderful staff, I
hope to take Contra Costa College back to its glory
days. We will play ‘Fast & Physical,’ and most of
all preach academics. Thank you for continuing to
support our program, and together, let’s get ready
for a strong season.”
— Alonzo Carter, Head Football Coach
Alonzo Carter
CCC’s Head Football Coach
Alonzo Carter is from Oakland, CA. Alonzo attended Cal State Hayward and Contra Costa College, where he received his A. A. He also played
football and ran track from 1986-1989 at Cal State
Hayward.
Coach Carter’s coaching experience includes:
seven years as the McClymonds High School Football Head Coach, three years as Berkeley High
School’s Football Head Coach, and thirteen years as
McClymonds’ Head Track Coach. Alonzo was also
Head Coach for the 2009 summer Alameda/Contra
Costa County All Star Game, and Head Coach for
the 2009 Holiday Classic East Bay vs. Sacramento.
In 2012, Coach Carter led the Comets to the Bay
Valley Conference Championship and was named
the BVC and CCCFA Region II Coach of the Year.
Continuing onward, Coach Carter once again led
the Comets through 2013 and 2014 to become the
Bay Valley Conference & Pacific 7 League Champions of the NCFC, making them now, 3-time winners.
In addition, they also won the Living Breath
Foundation Bowl in 2012 and 2014.
In honor of these accomplishments, Coach
Carter was awarded the 2014 Pacific 7 and American
Division Coach of the Year.
Coach Carter also has 13 years of youth track
team head coaching for Alameda/Contra Costa
County Youth Track Club, as well as serving as an
original board member for the East Bay Warriors
Youth Football Organization.
When he’s not coaching he enjoys listening to old
school music, going to comedy shows and concerts
with his wife Roezell Carter, spending time with his
children, Isaiah, Malikhi, Alonzo II, Alona, Anthony
and Kennedie Carter, and of course, going to live
sporting events.
