2015 Program Guide
A BIG THANKS TO OUR
SPONSERS & PARTNERS FOR HELPING US !
1
SPECIAL GUESTS
A Hollywood actor who has become a cult classic and pioneering figure in Asian American cinema. He was first introduced
in Steven Spielberg’s fairytale movie Hook, as “Rufio”, the
leader of the Lost Boys. He quickly jumped to leading roles like
Newline’s Take the Lead, opposite Antonio Banderas, and The
Debut, which became the voice of a Filipino American generation. 20th Century Fox executives were so mesmerized by
the uniqueness of Dante’s look and ability that they gave him
a development deal for his own series and he starred in a pilot
for Touchstone/ABC, The Chang Family Saves the World, written and produced by John Ridley and directed by Paris Barclay.
Ever versatile, he’s “Jake Long” in Disney’s animated series
American Dragon: Jake Long as well as “Prince Zuko” in Nickelodeon’s phenomenal hit, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
GUEST OF HONOR
DANTE BASCO
Jason Trost is a fourth generation filmmaker that has
worked in the film industry for his entire life. Raised on
sets, he began young, as an assistant for their father in
the craft of special effects. With years of working and
learning the intricacies of filmmaking, he developed an
appreciation for the art while reaching further than just
special effects. Today he has written, directed and starred
in four feature films; The FP, All Superheroes Must Die,
Wet and Reckless and How To Save Us .
FILMMAKER GUEST
OF HONOR - JASON TROST

Portland’s The Slants are the first and only all-Asian American
dance rock band in the world. They offer up catchy dance beats,
strong hooks, and a bombastic live show that is “not to be
missed” (The Westword). The Willamette Week says “While the
band may well be best experienced live, Slants releases always
promise a few blistering, note-perfect singles.” The music is the
perfect combination of 80’s driven synth pop with hard-hitting
indie, floor-filling beats which fans affectionately dub as “Chinatown Dance Rock.”
MUSICAL GUEST OF HONOR
THE SLANTS
Ninja of the Night (Aka NOTN) is a cosplay performance group
based out of the Pacific Northwest, although its members are
scattered all across the country! The five principle members,
Kayla [BAT], Mandy [Nutcracker], Krystal [Sumikins], Rynn
[Rynn], and Chris [GaMeReVx], have been together since 2007
and in that time produced and combined 15+ skits and have
taken home numerous performance awards and acknowledgements including four Best In Shows, being featured on several gaming blogs as well as G4’s “Attack of the Show”, and
have had two of their members represent the United States
in 2010’s World Cosplay Summit. Now, they’re ready to share
their knowledge in cosplay-related panels as well as entertain!

VOICE ACTOR GUESTS
Kira
Buckland began voice acting at the age of sixteen
after having been introduced to the online voiceover community. She
got her start voice acting in flash animations and games, and started getting noticed in the industry after winning Anime Expo 2007’s Voice Actor
Idol. After moving to Southern California from her hometown of Anchorage, Alaska, she soon landed her first official roles and has since voiced
many characters in anime (Blue Exorcist, Accel World, LaGrange, Magi:
The Labyrinth of Magic, 5 Centimeters Per Second) and video games
(Skullgirls, Castle Crashers, Hyperdimension Neptunia V, Inazuma Eleven, Mugen Souls, Time and Eternity). Recently, she has been announced
to be the voice of Hiyoko Saionji in “Dangan Ronpa 2: Goodbye Despair”.
To keep up with Kira, follow her on Twitter @rinachan.
Natalie
Hoover is a voice actor residing in Los Angeles,
CA. Born and raised in Oregon, Natalie had always admired the world of
Hollywood. Realizing her passion for the arts, she enrolled herself in several organizations to explore what would soon become her career. Her
most recent voice acting roles are Sonia Nevermind from the acclaimed
title DanganRonpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Tiara in Fairy Fencer F, Ryubence
in Witch and the Hundred Knight, Toya in Magi: Labyrinth of Magic, Raven Banecroft in Rival Threads, and Yolko in the hit series Sword Art
Online that aired on Toonami, as well as many more titles which will be
released soon.
To learn more about Natalie, visit her at www.nataliehoover.com or follow her twitter (@NatalieHooverVO)!
Sean
Chiplock is a professional voiceover artist who has
been quickly making his way into the industry scene, voicing for a number
of popular characters in recent videogames and anime. Some of his recent
roles include Cassim in “MAGI: Labyrinth of Magic”, Ozma and Gruda in “Ys:
Memories of Celceta”, and Kiyotaka Ishimaru in the game “Dangan Ranpa:
Trigger Happy Havoc” due out in February. He’s just as much of a character
in person, though, and enjoys talking to anyone about basically anything.
He currently resides in sunny California, battling traffic almost as often as
he battles his animated rivals.

COSPLAY GUESTS
MEPPY GAL COSPLAY
GUEST / YOUTUBE GUEST
is a popular cosplayer, host, content creator, and full time media profession-
al. After years of cosplaying she decided to take her stories and advice to
her YouTube channel. With an audience of over 9000 she produces a variety
of cosplay and pop culture related videos. This year she published her first
book “Get In The Robot - Your Guide to Making Plugsuits” to educate and
inspire others to make bodysuit creations. When she is not busy working on
creative content, she enjoys getting good food and coffee in Portland OR.
RYAN
WELLS - COSPLAY GUEST
from Portland OR, has been doing props and sets for various theater and
haunt productions throughout the years and only recently started cosplaying in September of 2013 and has already been featured on several cosplay
and special effects panels at various conventions throughout the Pacific
NW, cosplay websites, web series and Forbes.com.
“Cosplay was a natural progression for me since there’s not enough Halloween in my life”
“I love to learn new skills and make challenges for myself, getting inspiration and bouncing ideas off friends (new and old) and connecting through
the great community that has taken me in while creating obscure yet lovingly recognizable characters. Up until now I have tended to draw inspiration mainly from films but I try to branch out into other genres.”

uncharted Minnow Trench wasn’t enough, scientists,
adventurers and big game hunters alike are guaranteed to have something to set their sights on. Rumors
abound that long lost human technology, along with
mystical elven artifacts, have all found a watery rest
here. Their strange energies have mutated the local sea
life to enormous proportions and hostile dispositions.
Beneath the Waves is a four-hour Science Fiction/ Fantasy LARP that incorporates simulated combat with
NERF guns.

you to an evening of fun, community, and crying over
how alone we are!
Convention Horror Stories
Have you ever been to a convention, and then something went horribly wrong? Anywhere from mistaking
someone for the whole convention of being the other
gender, to cosplay malfunctions at the wrong time. We
tell it all here. But what happens in that room, stays in
that room. It’s a safe place, to have a good laugh, and
share your stories with other people who can relate.

Tired of not being able to come up with posing for pictures at a convention? Well professional model Sage
Bell would like to help you create character specific
posing for when you are at a convention.

levels of interest and experience.
Could she BE any more sugoi?

Bing.
Cultural Appropriation vs Rule of Cool
If all culture is remix culture, how do we as fans and
creators borrow from other cultures respectfully while
calling out problematic uses? We will explore the history of appropriation, it’s negative effects on both the
source culture as well as the appropriators, and where
it has been done well.
Defining Steampunk

carry your prop safely. This means you will not brandish any prop
weapon, engage in any mock fighting, or use your prop in any way
which could be seen as unsafe. You will be required to sign an
acknowledgement of the requirements of safe-carry.
