Services: The Youth Services Education Program helps youth 14 to 21 years of age
complete their high school education. The program offers classes for both out-of-school
and in-school youth. Classroom attendance allows them to gain life skills that will enable
them to become productive community members and increase their employability.

Services: Goodwill’s Ola I Ka Hana program works with youth on their education and work goals. Participants
will work on resume development, job searching and interviewing, job applications and career interests. They
offer basic skills enrichment, academic preparation for a high school diploma, GED classes, service learning,
character building, financial literacy, employment preparation, health and fitness instruction, cultural
enrichment and leadership development. Services are provided in classroom and individual settings. Frequency
of Services provided depends on individual client's needs.

Services: This program provides job training and placement for out-of-school and

Services: The staff provides individual counseling, support groups, mediation, classroom
presentations, consultation and other services. They also facilitate the Peace Council, in
collaboration with Adult Friends for Youth; and run a Gay-Straight Alliance Program, in
conjunction with University of Hawaii graduate students.
Eligibility: Anyone can go to the Teen Center. Students sometimes come in on their own; more
often they are referred by counselors, teachers, staff, friends or family members. Parents are
welcome to come to the Teen Center for help as well.

Services: The Kailana (calm seas) Program is a highly-structured, staff-secure, residential
program for high risk Hawai`i adolescents needing comprehensive treatment and education,
including mental health services. Kailana, run by the non-profit Marimed Foundation, combines
individual, group and family therapy with educational and vocational services, ocean and landbased therapeutic and recreational activities including sailing and ocean voyaging on Makani Olu
(Marimed’s sail training vessel), canoe paddling, agriculture, aquaculture, and culinary
opportunities Program for foster and at-risk youth to learn how to sail to enhance the child's selfimage by learning and experiencing life at sea.
Eligibility: Males and Females, 14 through 18, who face difficult emotional and educational
challenges requiring something more structured and restrictive than school or home- based
services, but who do not need to be hospitalized or incarcerated. This program specializes in
adolescent males with conduct disorders and those dually diagnosed with chemical dependency.
Referred by: All youth enrolled in the program are referred directly by the Child and
Adolescent Mental Health Division of the State Health Department. Many youth are involved
with the Family Court, the Office of Youth Services, or the Department of Education special
