Rounded w/Rib & Flare I-Shields
DESCRIPTION
An INSULATION COMPONENTS Rounded w/Rib & Flare I-Shield is a 180 degree
rounded piece of galvanized coated steel used to protect piping insulation from
compressing at pipe hanger locations. IC Rounded w/Rib & Flare I-Shields come
with flared edges and ribs machined into each part. The flared edges help the I-Shield
from cutting into the pipe insulation which damages the vapor barrier. The 180° Ribs
aid in the alignment of the I-Shield. They ensure the I-Shield is placed directly below
the hanger and help to alleviate the I-Shield slipping out of place with pipe movement.
The Rounded edge prevents the I-Shield from cutting into the vapor barrier. It is
suggested that wood I-Blocks be used along with the I-Shield to guarantee the

APPLICATIONS
INSULATION COMPONENTS I-Shields are made for use on plumbing
and HVAC mechanical piping systems with temperatures ranging from
-120i to +500i F. IC I-Shields are ideal for use on medium and low
compressive strength pipe insulations and insulations which have a
vapor barrier which is either field or factory applied. Such insulations
include but are not limited to: rubber, polyethylene, fiberglass, urethane,
Styrofoam and calcium silicate.
NOTE:
When applied with the correct wood I-Block (See IC Wood I-Block Product Data Sheet)
IC I-Shields are made to withstand 5 PSI compressive strength on a maximum span
of 10 linear feet.
RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Begin by lifting the appropriately sized IC I-Shield upward towards the insulated pipe to just outside the hanger location.
Proceed by sliding the I-Shield underneath the hanger until the hanger is in the middle of the I-Shield.

IC MSS Series I-Shields
DESCRIPTION
An IC MSS Series I-Shield is a 180 degree rounded piece of galvanized coated
steel used to protect piping insulation from compressing at pipe hanger locations.
These I-Shields resist crushing the insulation at the point of support when the
insulation has more than 5% deformation at 30 psi. These specifically designed
I-Shields are conformed with Federal Specification WW-H-171 (Type 41),
Manufacturers Standardization Society ANSI/MSS-SP-58 (Type 40);install in
accordance with ANSI/MSS-SP-69. It is suggested that wood blocks be used
along with the I-Shield to guarantee the proper support.

PRODUCT DIMENSIONS
IC MSS Series I-Shields are ordered to conform
to the sizing requirements of MSS SP-58 shown below.
This table is based upon insulation compressive
strength of 15 P.S.I. in clevis hangers. Higher compressive
strength insulations can result in shorter I-Shield lengths.

Routed Fiberglass I-Fittings
DESCRIPTION
An IC Routed Fiberglass Fittings will fit any standard long or short radius 90° or 45°
butt weld or socket elbow found in normal piping schemes. In addition to standard
short and long elbows, IC can also fabricate mitered elbows. Fabricated from Owens
Corning 703 Board Insulation; routed into fiberglass fittings. Elbows are produced to
fit NPS & tubing sizes for industrial applications ranging in temperature from
0ºF to 450ºF, (-18ºC to 232ºC). IC 90/45 elbows have excellent thermal and acoustical
performance with lowering operating costs.

High Density Fiberglass I-Blocks
DESCRIPTION
INSULATION COMPONENTS FIBERGLASS I-BLOCK SUPPORTS are 18lb. cu./ft.
density molded fiberglass which is light yellowish tan in color. Fiberglass I-Blocks are
designed to be used along with the IC I-Shields to ensure that the pipe insulation does
not compress at each hanger location. Fiberglass I-Block Supports enhances thermal
and vibration control properties of the entire insulation system.

INSULATION COMPONENTS Fiberglass I-Block Supports are placed inside the pipe insulation at ALL hanger location.
Before applying the pipe insulation, simply notch out the insulation with a insulation knife and replace it with the appropriate
sized fiberglass I-Block support. (SEE SIZING CHART FOR RECOMMENDED I-BLOCK SIZE) Proceed by applying the pipe
insulation to the pipe and then inserting the appropriate IC I-Shields.
WHEREVER PIPE INSULATION PASSES THROUGH A HANGER LOCATION, THE FIBERGLASS I-BLOCKS SHALL BE
INSTALLED WITH THE APPROPRIATE IC I-SHIELD. ALSO, THE THICKNESS OF THE FIBERGLASS I-BLOCK
SUPPORT SHALL BE EQUAL TO THAT OF THE PIPE INSULATION THICKNESS.

INSULATION COMPONENTS HARDWOOD I-BLOCKS are used along with
IC I-Shields to ensure that the pipe insulation does not compress at each
hanger location. (See IC Hardwood I-Block product data sheet)

Shipped along with IC I-Shields - ships with I-Shields for freight allowance
information on size, style, pieces/ bundle, and pieces per carton.
APPLICATIONS
INSULATION COMPONENTS Hardwood I-Blocks are made to support pipe sizes ranging from
1/2" to 30" outside diameter. IC I-Blocks are for use on plumbing and HVAC mechanical
piping systems with temperatures ranging from -120i to +350i °F.
NOTE:
When applied with the correct wood I-Block (See IC Hardwood I-Block Product Data Sheet)
IC Pipe I-Shields are made to withstand 5 PSI compressive strength on a maximum span
of 10 linear feet.
INSULATION COMPONENTS Hardwood I-Blocks are placed inside the pipe insulation at the hanger and IC Pipe IShield location. Before applying the pipe insulation, simply notch out the insulation with an insulation knife and replace
insulation piece with the appropriate sized wood I-Block. (see sizing chart for recommended I-Block size.) Proceed by
applying the pipe insulation to the pipe and then inserting the appropriate IC I-Shield.
WHEREVER PIPE INSULATION PASSES THROUGH A HANGER LOCATION, THE IC HARDWOOD I-BLOCK
SHALL BE INSTALLED. ALSO EACH IC WOOD I-BLOCK SHALL BE EQUAL TO THE PIPE INSULATION
THICKNESS.
