SPRING 2016 QAA CONFERENCE AND MEETING
PROCRASTINATION REMINDER....
Now is the time to sign up for the QAA Spring Conference and Meeting.
Ok, we have all said the above words and a few more for that matter, but seriously
now, the time has come to put words into action. If you haven’t signed up for the
QAA Annual Spring Conference and Meeting, there is no time like the present time.
The spring conference will occur on Tuesday May 10th and Wednesday May 11th
in Fort Worth TX. The QAA Board has worked hard to put together a dynamic mix
of exciting speakers sharing their industry knowledge with our group. We will be
attending the MMI – Consumer Science specifically designed Sensory Evaluation
Workshop on Food, OTC, Non-Food and Consumer Products. Upon completion of
the Workshop all participants will be issued a Sensory Evaluation Workshop
Certificate of Attendance.
The regulatory push is on for changes in Food Labeling, new potential allergens
requirements, new front of labeling requirements, larger Nutritional Facts
statements, GMO’s, Organic, Natural, and a whole host of other concerns. An all
day Food Labeling Training Workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 11, see
article on page two.
Plant Tours have always been an integral component of the QAA Conferences and
Meetings and this year is no exception. The QAA Board has scheduled a plant and
retail tour, read about the tours on page two.
Stay informed and Sign up now to attend the Conference and don’t be left out
wondering, what’s going on in our industry.

FOOD LABELING MODERNIZATION ACT OF 2015 AIMS TO OVERHAUL FOOD LABEL REQUIREMENTS.
SESAME SEED GAINS TRACTION IN PUSH FOR ALLERGEN FOOD LABELING. FDA IS PROPOSING TO
UPDATE THE NUTRITIONAL FACTS LABELING REQUIREMENTS, SO THE PUBLIC IS BETTER INFORMED
ON WHAT THEY ARE CONSUMING. THE STATE OF VERMONT CONTINUES ON PROGRESS OF GMO FREE
LABELING. WOW – All these new Food Labeling Requirements are in some state of regulatory progress, how am I going
to know what is really happening and how is it going to affect me and my business.
The Quality Assurance Association’s Food Labeling Training Workshop will be presented by OSU Professors and Staff
members. The information provided to participants will enable them to better comply with labeling requirements,
especially in light of growing concerns about food, where it comes from, how it is labeled, and how it is going to be
regulated.
Your QAA Board is working hard on ensuring you as a member of the QAA are being kept updated on the latest Food
Labeling requirements. Sign up now to attend the 2016 Spring Conference in Fort Worth, TX and stay informed.
Oklahoma State University will issue Certificates of Attendance on Food Labeling.

PLANT & RETAIL TOURS.....

The QAA Board is happy to inform the membership that the plant tours have been finalized. Thanks to the help and
assistance of QAA Member Christi Hailey of Kroger, we will be touring the Kroger Beverage Manufacturing Facility in
Irving, Texas. If you are not familiar with how a beverage manufacturing plant works, or ever wondered how that
delicious bottled drink was produced, then you are not going to want to miss this tour.
The QAA Board is also happy to report that thanks to the help and assistance of Braeden Knight, QAA Member-at-Large,
the HEB Central Market in Fort Worth, TX will be conducting a Special Tour of the flagship HEB Central Market
location. Upon completion of that tour the HEB Central Market Cooking School will host a demonstration/cooking
presentation. Followed by wine and entrée dinner samplings of various dishes specially created for QAA. The theme of
the presentation will be Southwestern Tex-Mex.

TOPIC : Sensory Evaluation Workshop on Food OTC, Non-Food and Consumer Products
The sensory evaluation field is the exciting and dynamic field focusing on the sensory assessment and measurement
of a products, parameters. The acceptance of a products flavor, texture, aroma, color, look, feel and/or taste in Food,
OTC, Non-Food, and other Consumer Products is critical to a products success.
This workshop has been specifically designed to assist the QAA workshop participants as you select, conduct,
analyze and interpret sensory evaluation methods. The significant feature of this workshop is the lecture,
demonstration, and laboratory sessions in which you will participate. Workshop participants will learn about sensory
composition, method selection, descriptive and discriminative testing, acceptance testing, preference testing, and
statistical analysis of data.

Upon completion of the workshop, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued by OSU to all participants.
