Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement INTRODUCTION Replace the cracked or broken screen on your Samsung Galaxy S3. Use this guide to replace the display assembly. TOOLS: IMPORTANT Take your time! The repair takes about 20-30 minutes. Remember that you will be handling fragile parts, so be gentle! Most screws are different sizes so keep them organized. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 1 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 1: • Before disassembling your phone, be sure it is powered off. • Insert a fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the divot to the left of the rearfacing camera. • Gently pry and twist the flexible rear cover off the back of the phone. Step 2: • Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the recess in the bottom right corner of the battery and lift upward. • Remove the battery away from the phone. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 2 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 3: • Remove the ten 4.0 mm Phillips screws securing the midframe to the display assembly. Step 4: • Grasp the right side of the plastic midframe with your fingers and lift it away from the phone. • The midframe lightly snaps in place, and can be removed with very little force. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 3 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 5: • Use a plastic spudger to pry the rearfacing camera connector up from its socket on the motherboard. Step 6: • Insert a plastic spudger outside of the speaker portion of the headphone jack/speaker assembly. • Lift and remove the headphone jack/speaker assembly up from the front assembly. Step 8: • Disconnect the following flex cable from the motherboard using a plastic spudger: o Front-facing camera cable o Digitizer cable o Display data cable o Wi-Fi antenna cable Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 5 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 9: • Gently remove the motherboard. • Hold the motherboard by its edges to prevent ESD damage. Be careful not to snag it on any cables as you extract it from the display assembly. Step 10: • Use the heat gun at the lowest setting to heat the frame/border of the phone. When using the heat gun, be careful not to leave it heating in one area for too long. Constantly move the heat gun when using it. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 6 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 11: • Insert the metal spudger underneath the midframe and the front glass. • Slide the metal spudger down releasing the adhesive as you go. Step 12: • Slide the metal spudger across the bottom edge of the display to separate adhesive. • Pull up slightly as you near the home button. Work your way around the frame while sliding the metal spudger. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 7 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 13: • Insert the metal spudger on the bottom left side underneath the glass and work your way to the top of the phone releasing the adhesive as you go. Step 14: • Safely remove the front panel assembly from phone. Step 16: • Remove the protective plastic from the back of the new LCD assembly. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 9 of 14 Samsung Galaxy S3 Display Assembly Replacement Step 17: • Insert the LCD to the front panel assembly. • Carefully straighten the LCD cable, and feed them through the slot cut in the outer case Step 18: • Run your fingers along the sides ensuring the assembly slips evenly into the frame. Step 22: • Insert the headphone jack/speaker assembly up to the front assembly. Step 24: • Insert ten Phillips screws to secure the midframe to the display assembly.
