from the guard position. She’s aggressive and also
does good work on the boards.”

Living on
Campus
Living on campus can be one of the most
exciting and fun parts of college life. You
are near your classes, able to be involved in
late night study groups, close to all of the
events and activities and will form lifelong
friendships. And who knows, you just might

e know that every student brings unique
skills and talents to our college. At
Northern, you can become the person you want to
be. Instead of blending into the crowd, you can be
involved in what makes you...YOU! Take the stage
in a musical, get involved in student government
or play intramural sports. Lead a class discussion,
write for the college newspaper or root for
the Varsity sport teams. However you decide
to get involved, you’ll meet friends that will last
a lifetime... and learn what you need to know to
succeed. Students who get involved in clubs and
activities while enrolled in college courses have
greater success in their studies and
in their careers. Northern provides
countless opportunities for students
to get involved in
leadership, decisionmaking and service
learning while meeting
new people, making new
friends and having fun.

2012-2013 Basketball Media Guide
Brett Weiberg
Coach Brett Weiberg has been the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Northern Oklahoma
College since 2006-07. He was an assistant coach at Northern from 2005-06. He posted his
100th career win in November 2012. In 2011-12 the Mavericks placed 4th in the rugged OCAC.
Starting 0-3 on the league, the Mavericks then won six of eight league games and then won
their last four of five league games. The Mavericks lost in the second round of the Region II
Tournament. Five sophomores from 2011-12 continued to play at the university level. More
importantly, five of the Maverick sophomores graduated with their associate degrees.
In 2002 Weiberg moved to Tonkawa from the University of Texas at San Antonio where
he served as an assistant under Head Coach Tim Carter. At San Antonio, the Roadrunners
placed third in the tough Southland Conference. Weiberg was fortunate to coach Devin Brown,
who has gone on to play eight years in the NBA.
Weiberg moved to San Antonio from Plainview, Texas where he served as an assistant
under Head Coach Todd Thurman at Wayland Baptist University. Before Wayland, Weiberg
served one year as an assistant at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas under Coach Steve Spurlin.
From 1995-1997, Weiberg played basketball at Sam Houston State University and then served as a student
assistant in 1997-1998 for the Bearkats. As a senior he started every game and led the team in minutes played.
He was named Academic All-Conference from the Southland Conference.
Weiberg played for the Northern Mavericks from 1993-1995. His squads were the first Maverick basketball
teams to win back-to-back Bi-State West Conference championships. As a sophomore he averaged 18 points
and 4 assists per game and earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region honors.
Weiberg and his wife Kristy are the parents of Jared Cole, Jayden Cora and Jackson Cash.
Spencer Schrupp
Coach Spencer Schrupp returned to Northern Oklahoma College for the start of the
2012-2013 season. He played for Coaches Mick Weiberg and Brett Weiberg in their final
and inaugural seasons coaching, respectively, in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. He spent the
previous two years as a high school assistant basketball coach at Carl Albert and Muskogee
high school in Oklahoma.
Schrupp finished his playing career at Rogers State University under Coach Lloyd
Williams. The Hillcats posted a combined 50-13 record, during the 2007-2008 and 20082009 seasons. Schrupp started in 10 games his senior season and the squad won the
Sooner Athletic Conference regular season conference championship and the Sooner
Athletic Conference tournament championship. The tam made the program’s first-ever
trip to the NAIA national tournament. The Hillcats spent seven straight weeks ranked at
#1 and received the overall #1 seed for the national tournament.
Schrupp has an extensive background working in skill development, summer camps, and
tournaments. He is from Choctaw, where his parents Loren and Janice Schrupp reside.

With the Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks’
59-55 victory over the Cowley County Community
College Tigers Nov. 5, 2012 at Arkansas City, Head
Men’s Basketball Coach Brett Weiberg posted his 100th
career win.
NOC celebrated his career milestone Nov. 7 with
the presentation of a trophy between the women’s and
men’s games in Foster-Piper Fieldhouse and a reception
in the Harrison Hospitality Room. Game announcer
Dean Pearcy read a tribute to Weiberg and NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans presented the trophy, topped with
a crystal basketball and engraved “Brett Weiberg NOC Mavericks 100 Wins 2012”. In honor of the occasion, the
president, the cheer team and the Maverick mascot wore t-shirts imprinted “B. Weiberg 100 Wins 2012” on the back.
Weiberg began his NOC coaching career in Fall 2001 as assistant to his father, Mavericks Head Men’s Basketball
Coach Mick Weiberg. He succeeded to the head coaching position following his father’s retirement in 2006. Although
building a winning team is one of his top priorities, Weiberg emphasizes education first. He has a personal interest
in each of his players and works to help them experience success in all aspects of their college careers. He strives to
help them become men of character who will build a better world.
He takes pride in recruiting good athletes who want to work hard and graduate, and more than 80 percent of
his Mavericks earn their associate degrees. In fact, most of his players continue their education at major universities.
Former Mavericks are currently attending such prominent institutions as the University of Central Oklahoma,
Mississippi Valley State University, Dallas Baptist University, Newman University in Kansas, Southwest Baptist
University in Missouri and Lynn University in Florida.
Several of his former players continued to play at the university level at Oral Roberts University, Oklahoma
Christian University, University of New Hampshire, John Brown University in Arkansas, Weber State University in
Utah and Pacific University in Oregon before building successful careers in various business and academic fields.
