NERIC’s Managed Wireless Services encompasses all aspects of a wireless network infrastructure utilizing state-of-the-art Cisco wireless controllers and the latest in high-speed, powerful, lightweight access points. Centrally managed intelligence is what drives the lightweight access points and provides a structured and sound wireless experience. NERIC’s goal is to construct a high-performance wireless network that will provide a solid foundation in the delivery of current and future mobile technology. The wireless network allows teachers the ability to easily rearrange their teaching space and equipment to create the most optimal learning environment for their individual classes and students. While computer labs still provide a valuable resource, students now need constant access to information throughout the day and a secure wireless network is essential. District staff can also utilize the wireless networking to reliably and securely access network resources. In addition, school district visitors and community event participants can be allowed wireless access to Internet resources while being prevented from accessing secure school resources. Features of NERIC Managed Wireless Services include: uu Latest Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards: IEEE 802.11ac operates at 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies; access points will automatically select the one with the least ambient interference. Because the 802.11ac network provides 1,000 Mbps, NERIC can now support more devices running simultaneously. uu Backward compatibility: Capable of running wireless 802.11b/g/n devices. uu Field upgradability: This feature helps future-proof deployments by ensuring compatibility as technology advances. uu Sophisticated insight and control: Monitor or limit the network traffic occurring on portable devices and detect rogue access points. uu Reliability: A rock-solid, reliable and secure high-speed wireless infrastructure to support the entire district. Managing the many computers stationed throughout a school district’s buildings is challenging enough. Throw software into the mix and the task becomes downright daunting. But school districts no longer need to struggle with this task thanks to NERIC’s partnership with Microsoft on the Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) software licensing agreement. Under this agreement, participating school districts receive full licensing for such Microsoft core products as Windows 8, Office Professional 2013, Windows Server client licenses, Exchange client licenses and many others, all for a low annual fee. The licensing is priced based on the number of employees in a school district (FTEs), not the number of workstations, helping keep the price constant each year. By utilizing this service, participating school districts are always in full compliance with licensing requirements for software with no administrative overhead. Participating school districts are also able to take advantage of the Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP), which gives staff members the option of downloading the full Microsoft Office Suite on their home computers for a low one-time fee of $9.95. This option can also be made available to students with the purchase of additional licensing. Having access to this software at home and at the office will prove to be of great benefit to district employees, as well as to the district as a whole. Voice and Electronic Communication CoSer: 604-7710 Service Code: 604.190.110 The email archiving service helps school districts legally comply with state and federal Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) regulations by storing all district email communications. The service provides authorized district users with a searchable archive of all email messages for rapid retrieval. Contact: Robert Womble (518) 862-5360 [email protected] NERIC preserves all email as dictated by district policy on a secure server within its Data Center, preventing districts from having to purchase costly equipment for data storage. This service helps districts cut costs and lessens the administrative responsibilities associated with maintaining a district-based email solution. By utilizing NERIC to provide hosted email services, districts no longer need to maintain the hardware and software currently in place within the district. The hosted email servers at NERIC allow district users to access their email on any in-district computer desktop or via Web access from any Internet-accessible workstation. In addition, NERIC’s hosted solution provides email archiving and anti-SPAM protection and performs daily backups to ensure data is secure. • $33 per user mailbox without participation in a NERIC Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) licensing agreement. Mobile Device Management (MDM) CoSer: 604-7710 Service Codes: 604.510 Contact: Robert Womble (518) 862-5360 [email protected] 2016-17 Pricing: • 604.510.010 – $900 Mobile Device Management initial set-up • 604.510.020 – $9 Licensing (per device) With mobile devices increasing in number, districts need a plan to manage their own mobile equipment, as well as student and staff-owned bring your own devices (BYODs). NERIC will work with participating schools to implement such a strategy that would include policies and profiles for their staff and students, as well as their guests, to appropriately access the school network. NERIC’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) service provides a complete solution for mobile learning that is geared specifically for schools. It is a comprehensive, cross-platform solution that allows for detailed management of mobile devices. It supports management of Android, iOS, Windows Mobile and MacOS devices. Effective MDM also addresses the need for Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance for student devices while on the district’s network. By enrolling their devices, students gain the benefit of the district’s high-speed wireless infrastructure, but are limited to appropriate content delivered over that network. Policies can then be assigned to student devices that would limit their ability to use common functions of the device outside of the focus of instruction and help students to remain good digital citizens. • 604.510.030 – $6 Service and Support (per device). This allows for increased communication between districts at a significantly reduced cost via on-network dialing. Participating districts can take advantage of least-cost routing. Because NERIC is uniquely positioned with offices in Albany, Schoharie and Plattsburgh, calls made to those areas would be charged as local calls, saving the district long-distance charges. uu VoIP Hosted Service (623.000.090): For those looking to implement a VoIP system, NERIC will host your phones on our servers. NERIC staff will implement all changes, additions or moves to your phones and voicemail. This shared service saves districts the cost of servers, equipment maintenance, staff and facility resources associated with IP telephony. Additional features available to a hosted district are call pattern reports, 911 notification to select staff, use of alternative outgoing phone lines if the district’s lines fail and broadcast paging. www.neric.org 28 Network Services – WAN/ Server Infrastructure WAN/Server Infrastructure Services provide support for internet access, telecom equipment maintenance, managed firewall service, VoIP telephone service and service desk support. Ongoing rule changes and management will be provided, along with documentation required for effective security management and tracking. Firewall log monitoring and management, as well as firewall custom configuration, will be performed to ensure an effective security solution. Network capacity planning, network analysis and network utilization will also be performed with this managed service. Online accessibility for remote network administrators through the management software includes the ability to get real-time network WAN statistics that can be saved and used for documentation of WAN usage and for future capacity planning for Internet access and Web services offered over the NERIC WAN. Through outsourcing of firewall security infrastructure, a school district can effectively reduce network operational costs while increasing the effectiveness of the firewall security operations on the network. A core service of the NERIC wide area network team and contact center, the Managed Network Infrastructure Monitoring and Support provides ongoing support and utilizes remote monitoring tools to support and monitor the status of critical network infrastructure devices, such as switches, routers and firewalls. The NERIC contact center technicians and wide area network technicians will monitor these key network devices and connections in real-time and leverage both visual and email alerts. Ongoing support includes IOS and configuration changes, upgrades and future design planning. Maintenance and configuration changes will also be scheduled to minimize downtime during school hours. Selection of this service requires the following: uu Wide Area Network (WAN) participation. uu Adherence to NERIC standards (e.g., equipment procurement).
