NERIC’s Cafeteria Systems Service is a Windows-based, point-of-sale, food service accountability program that allows districts to
have local access to their data for viewing and updating. The service provides for initial implementation, training and support, as
well as annual maintenance.
The system helps your students move through the lunch line quickly and efficiently. This software is intuitive and automates the
process without overcomplicating it. Touch-screen terminals simplify the cashier station so that your staff feels comfortable by the
end of the first day. Cash sales, student charges, prepayments, negative charges and adult meals are all easily processed in seconds,
giving your students time to enjoy the nutritious meals you prepare. Daily and monthly reporting and year-end processing have
never been easier.
A free and reduced-priced lunch application processing module is also available. Free and reduced information exports from NUTRIKIDS® can be automatically generated and loaded into the data warehouse, reducing data entry time and data redundancy in your
district. Also available is an integrated online payment option, Mynutrikids.com. This allows parents and guardians to make online
payments, see what their students purchased in the last 30 days, check student balances and receive low balance emails.

district. The curriculum will cover such areas as identifying data sources and gaps, state reporting requirements and presenting
meaningful data to promote and enhance data-driven decision-making.
The Institute provides training and support well beyond the basic tools, such as Level 0 and the New York State Student Identification System (NYSSIS). Participants will have access to specific data presentation models, podcasts and other support materials and

NERIC DataFlow provides an automated process for moving data from a number of student information and special education
systems directly to Level 0 of the Data Warehouse. Originally available only to districts subscribing to services for NERIC-supported
student information and special education systems, this service can now be purchased by non-supported districts.
NERIC DataFlow automates the daily extraction of student demographic, enrollment and program services data from the source
system. Level 0 import rules are applied to the extracted data, error reports are generated on a daily basis and the data that passes
the edit checks is written directly to Level 0. This automated process eliminates the need to manually extract files for import into
Level 0 and attention can be given to correcting errors in the source system on a daily basis.
GPS (Get Problems Solved) has been added to assist in the process. GPS is system-specific help contained within the reports, which
provides users with information about how and where to correct errors in their source system.

Using the eScholar state-standardized Data Warehouse solution, data elements from multiple information systems, including
student information systems, special education systems, nutrition systems and human resource systems, are integrated into a single
data repository, from which districts have direct access to a comprehensive district profile.
This service provides districts with an accurate and consistent means for importing district data extracted from various information
systems. Subscribers of NERIC-supported information systems, which have approved eScholar data extracts, will have an assurance
that data is available for import in the standard format as prescribed by the Student Information Repository System (SIRS). Data
validation rules are run against district data throughout the submission process to identify potential errors in data reporting and
state reports are generated for district review prior to the district’s final certification of data accuracy. Some of the domains included
at this time are demographic, enrollment, program services, assessments, special education, teacher student data linkage, final
grade, credit/GPA, attendance, courses, staff assignment, staff tenure and staff evaluation.
Guidance and interpretation of policy and accountability as it relates to the SIRS, as well as training and support, are also provided.

The program contains an interface specifically designed for use by teachers to electronically update the data contributed to each
student’s IEP. Other features enable districts to manage Medicaid claims and intervention services (AIS/RTI) for all students in the
district.
NERIC is currently providing these services for The Centris Group’s series of special education management-related products: IEP
Direct, RTIm Direct, Medicaid Direct and Centris Sync. These Web-based administrative software products are designed to assist
districts in managing information about students with disabilities and other special needs.
From fully compliant IEPs and an intuitive report wizard to a Medicaid billing and revenue recovery system, the Centris Suite of

NERIC is able to provide equipment redundancy, resulting in less “downtime” for districts, and assumes responsibility for software
patches and program updates to the system. Districts share the cost of licenses for applications, allowing each district to choose the
amount of access needed for each user. Application support effectiveness is increased due to the tools that Internet-based services
provide, since coordination staff can “shadow” any user to assist with questions and provide training.

evaluating instructional and administrative technology through both development of a technology plan linking curriculum, assessment, instruction with technology and customized consultation on technology planning. Long-range instructional technology
planning should address such issues as district vision; data collection; analysis and reporting; using technology to support learning;
equipment, wiring and software prioritization and procurement; implementation; staff development; support; funding; evaluation
and communication of overall technology planning with stakeholders.
A typical implementation of this more comprehensive technology planning service would include technology planning (facilitated
creation and yearly update); data to inform budgeting and procurement cycle for sustainable
vision; two (2) days on-site facilitation (kick off, board presentations, facilitated focus groups,
technology committee meetings etc.); four (4) days customized consultation around the
following topics: leadership and human infrastructure, policies and governance, impact of
professional development, new models of technical support, remote access, e-learning,
curriculum and instruction and family and community partnerships; and four (4)
days targeted shared professional development.

Information Security Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of security posture from an external and internal perspective.
It includes an in-depth evaluation of your security architecture, policies and procedures, threats and vulnerabilities and technical
security controls and mechanisms. The goal is to identify and remediate vulnerabilities and to increase staff awareness of security
best practices. Vulnerability assessments and penetration testing are available options.
Application Security Assessment is a review and evaluation of application security from the client and server perspectives.
Protection Policy Development works with districts to help plan and execute appropriate strategies for protection through policies
and best practices that reflect K-12’s unique environment and culture. Network Security Architecture Design assists districts in
developing a network security architecture design based on assessed requirements and industry best practices.
Computer Security also provides an avenue for a digital forensics, which captures and analyzes a system for its use and can
provide insight to processes that have already occurred on a system. Taken in an analytical lens and provided back in a fact-based
assessment to help determine what actions were taken on a system by a user and what actions were that of automation. Forensic
reviews are customizable and will be tailored to suit your district’s specific digital forensic needs.

NERIC’s Internet Content Filtering service helps school districts comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) in an effective, cost-efficient way. The service uses a sophisticated system of rules and categories, geared toward the K-12 environment to help
ensure computer users cannot access inappropriate material on the Internet. The service also typically includes separate Internet
profiles for teachers and students so the “teacher” or “staff” groups have less stringent blocks.
The philosophy regarding this service involves much more than preventing students from inappropriate Internet content. It is also
about providing network management and protecting the integrity of the school network for educational purposes. Each school has
a limited amount of bandwidth for Internet traffic. Blocking inappropriate traffic ensures school district networks remain responsive
and protected for legitimate use by students and staff.

NERIC’s Managed Wireless Services encompasses all aspects of a wireless network infrastructure utilizing state-of-the-art Cisco
wireless controllers and the latest in high-speed, powerful, lightweight access points. Centrally managed intelligence is what drives
the lightweight access points and provides a structured and sound wireless experience. NERIC’s goal is to construct a high-performance wireless network that will provide a solid foundation in the delivery of current and future mobile technology.
The wireless network allows teachers the ability to easily rearrange their teaching space and equipment to create the most optimal
learning environment for their individual classes and students. While computer labs still provide a valuable resource, students now
need constant access to information throughout the day and a secure wireless network is essential. District staff can also utilize the
wireless networking to reliably and securely access network resources. In addition, school district visitors and community event
participants can be allowed wireless access to Internet resources while being prevented from accessing secure school resources.
Features of NERIC Managed Wireless Services include:
uu
Latest Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards: IEEE 802.11ac operates at 2.4GHz and 5GHz
frequencies; access points will automatically select the one with the least ambient interference. Because the 802.11ac network
provides 1,000 Mbps, NERIC can now support more devices running simultaneously.
uu
Backward compatibility: Capable of running wireless 802.11b/g/n devices.
uu
Field upgradability: This feature helps future-proof deployments by ensuring compatibility as technology advances.
uu
Sophisticated insight and control: Monitor or limit the network traffic occurring on portable devices and detect rogue
access points.
uu
Reliability: A rock-solid, reliable and secure high-speed wireless infrastructure to support the entire district.
Managing the many computers stationed throughout a school district’s buildings is challenging enough. Throw software into the
mix and the task becomes downright daunting. But school districts no longer need to struggle with this task thanks to NERIC’s
partnership with Microsoft on the Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) software licensing agreement. Under this agreement,
participating school districts receive full licensing for such Microsoft core products as Windows 8, Office Professional 2013, Windows
Server client licenses, Exchange client licenses and many others, all for a low annual fee. The licensing is priced based on the number of employees in a school district (FTEs), not the number of workstations, helping keep the price constant each year.
By utilizing this service, participating school districts are always in full compliance with licensing requirements for software with no
administrative overhead. Participating school districts are also able to take advantage of the Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP),
which gives staff members the option of downloading the full Microsoft Office Suite on their home computers for a low one-time
fee of $9.95. This option can also be made available to students with the purchase of additional licensing. Having access to this
software at home and at the office will prove to be of great benefit to district employees, as well as to the district as a whole.

With mobile devices increasing in number, districts need a plan to manage their own mobile equipment, as well as student and
staff-owned bring your own devices (BYODs). NERIC will work with participating schools to implement such a strategy that would
include policies and profiles for their staff and students, as well as their guests, to appropriately access the school network.
NERIC’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) service provides a complete solution for mobile learning that is geared specifically for
schools. It is a comprehensive, cross-platform solution that allows for detailed management of mobile devices. It supports management of Android, iOS, Windows Mobile and MacOS devices.
Effective MDM also addresses the need for Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance for student devices while on the
district’s network. By enrolling their devices, students gain the benefit of the district’s high-speed wireless infrastructure, but are
limited to appropriate content delivered over that network. Policies can then be assigned to student devices that would limit their
ability to use common functions of the device outside of the focus of instruction and help students to remain good digital citizens.

IPT Network Support – Interconnect Service (623.000.020): Participating districts have the opportunity to connect
their phone network to the regional phone network. This allows for increased communication between districts at a significantly
reduced cost via on-network dialing. Participating districts can take advantage of least-cost routing. Because NERIC is uniquely
positioned with offices in Albany, Schoharie and Plattsburgh, calls made to those areas would be charged as local calls, saving
the district long-distance charges.
uu
VoIP Hosted Service (623.000.090): For those looking to implement a VoIP system, NERIC will host your phones on our
servers. NERIC staff will implement all changes, additions or moves to your phones and voicemail. This shared service saves
districts the cost of servers, equipment maintenance, staff and facility resources associated with IP telephony. Additional features
available to a hosted district are call pattern reports, 911 notification to select staff, use of alternative outgoing phone lines if the
district’s lines fail and broadcast paging.

Offered by the NERIC WAN team, this service provides a strategy for school districts to effectively safeguard critical information residing on LAN infrastructures. The service enables districts to outsource the responsibilities associated with network security design
and implementation, along with the day-to-day operations and maintenance required for an effective security solution.
After analyzing a district’s existing WAN/LAN network designs, an effective firewall solution will be recommended and implemented. Ongoing rule changes and management will be provided, along with documentation required for effective security management and tracking.
Firewall log monitoring and management, as well as firewall custom configuration, will be performed to ensure an effective security solution. Network capacity planning, network analysis and network utilization will also be performed with this managed service.
Online accessibility for remote network administrators through the management software includes the ability to get real-time
network WAN statistics that can be saved and used for documentation of WAN usage and for future capacity planning for Internet
access and Web services offered over the NERIC WAN. Through outsourcing of firewall security infrastructure, a school district can
effectively reduce network operational costs while increasing the effectiveness of the firewall security operations on the network.
A core service of the NERIC wide area network team and contact center, the Managed Network Infrastructure Monitoring and
Support provides ongoing support and utilizes remote monitoring tools to support and monitor the status of critical network
infrastructure devices, such as switches, routers and firewalls.
The NERIC contact center technicians and wide area network technicians will monitor these key network devices and connections in
real-time and leverage both visual and email alerts. Ongoing support includes IOS and configuration changes, upgrades and future
design planning. Maintenance and configuration changes will also be scheduled to minimize downtime during school hours.
Selection of this service requires the following:
uu
Wide Area Network (WAN) participation.
uu
Adherence to NERIC standards (e.g., equipment procurement).
