Dear Friends of the Foundation,
Living in Southern Appalachia, we are blessed to experience changing seasons that always bring a special beauty at this time
of year. Just as we experience seasonal changes, we at the Foundation have seen a year filled with many changes as well. Some
things; however, do not change, and that is our ongoing commitment to those we support through the generous giving of a
caring community. Changing lives through giving reflects the essence of the Mission Statement for the Foundation as we
continually strive to respond to those around us.
Certainly, the greatest journey ever undertaken by the Foundation is the Capital Campaign for a new home for The
Children’s Hospital. With the approval of the Certificate of Need, Karlsberger was chosen as the architectural firm to move
the plans from the conceptual drawing phase to one of reality. These plans will be available within the next few weeks and
are awaited with great anticipation. Groundbreaking for this momentous project is scheduled for May 2007 with completion
by December 2008. The current campaign, under way for the past two years, is at the halfway point. We truly celebrate the
many individuals and companies who have stepped forward to become involved in this major 32 million dollar challenge.
Every gift, small and large, is important, representing the heart of a committed and compassionate community.
Despite the many needs throughout this region and limited resources, Mountain States Foundation continues to move forward
in making a difference. Support for other projects continues to grow to include Parish Nursing, Lifeline, Circle of Hope,
Hospice, Pastoral Care and Growing Healthy, which has expanded into 6 school systems reaching, thousands of children.
By joining together, we all have the opportunity to share in success stories, offer hope to the hopeless, and ease the pain of illness
and injury. We are all connected in some way as we share a passion for others. Our role, to support the MSHA caregivers
in their daily endeavors, as well as patients and families, would not be possible without you. You are the very essence of the
Foundation and we value your role in reaching out to the community …changing lives through giving!

campaign update
We are halfway towards reaching our goal of 32 million dollars and are
looking forward to seeing the our children’s hospital offering these wonderful
new features.
Expanded new services will increase from the current
21,000 square feet to over 70,000 square feet
All Pediatric Intensive Care Unit rooms will be private, and all inpatient
rooms will be expanded to include a daybed for family members
First and only Pediatric Emergency Department in the region
Two dedicated pediatric surgical suites with pediatric preoperative
and postoperative rooms
Our St. Jude Research Affiliate Clinic will double in size
and will provide 5 exam rooms and 3 treatment rooms
Seven private transitional rooms will be added for the
families of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
patients.

The Children’s Hospital at Johnson City Medical Center is the only facility between Knoxville
and Roanoke that is affiliated with the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related
Institutions (NACHRI). It currently serves more than 200,000 children in a four-state 24county region. In partnership with ETSU College of Medicine, The Children’s Hospital has more
than 20 pediatric subspecialties and 127 physicians on staff.
