Foreword
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Adult and
Community-Based Learning service has a
tradition of working closely with its
communities and supports activities in a
number of main Community Learning Centres
(CLC) across the County.
It also provides outreach learning opportunities
in a host of different community venues such
as schools, village halls, family centres and
public houses. Schools play an important and
pivotal role in the community as they not only
provide education for pupils and create a
community spirit amongst parents, but they
also have the opportunity and often the
facilities to reach out to the whole community.
Considerable work has been undertaken
towards the development of a coherent
Community Schools Strategy, and this is
embedded in the Authority’s Single Education
Plan 2006 – 2008. Consequently, the Authority
will play a lead role in supporting those schools
wishing to develop a wider community focus.
A major part of the Authority’s role has been in
its significant capital investment of new
facilities. Both schools and community learning
centres have benefited from this investment,
and these are included in the pages that
follow.
Across Pembrokeshire, many schools already
provide some community services including
early years provision, wrap around childcare,
out of school hours learning, adult and
community-based learning, study support, ICT
facilities and community sports programmes.

facilities available and contact details.
