When Karan was just starting
out, Brar signed him up for the
John Robert Powers school of
acting. “It’s a rip-off,” Brar told
India-West.
“We had the worst experience
with them — $10,000 it cost us.
Finally, we ended up looking
for a local talent agency, and we
sent photos to the Sterling Talent
Agency [in Renton, Wash.]. They
accepted Karan and started submitting his audition videos online.
They work hard to represent him,
and they don’t make a penny until
Karan earns money for them.”
Brar wants other parents to
learn from his experience. It’s
great for kids to get involved in
community theater and school
productions, he said, but “My
advice is to not take expensive
classes,” he told India-West.
“Schools like that one make you
believe that you have to spend all
this money. Innocent people can
really get hurt.
“All you need is a good agent,
who is willing to work hard for
you.”
Karan, too, has advice to the
aspiring artist. “My advice to
anyone wanting to get into acting
and modeling would be to work
hard and do your best. Do not be
disheartened by ‘no.’ When you go
to auditions, you will hear many
‘nos’ — but one day, you will hear
a ‘yes’!”
