South England Conference Children’s Ministries Department Sizzix Library Catalogue Updated July 2010 About the Sizzix Big Shot & Cutting Dies The Sizzix Big Shot is a special cutting machine that will cut through three layers of paper at a time, or one layer of card, foam or even some fabrics. It uses specially shaped cutting dies, so that quite complex shapes can be cut accurately and simply. Cutting Die Sizing Size Centimetres or Inches Large 14 x 12 cm 5½x4¾” Medium 12 x 6.5 cm 4¾x2½” Small 7 x 6 cm 2 ¾ x 2 ¼” NB : The pictures in this catalogue are printed at full size. Sizzix has lots of potential uses for Children’s Ministries and Sabbath School. You can use it to make attendance devices, bookmarks, cards, memory verse reminders, mobiles, and all sorts of other craft projects. Borrowing the Big Shot & Cutting Dies The Big Shot machine and cutters are available on a first-come-first-served basis for churches to borrow for two weeks at a time. Simply look through the catalogue, choose the cutters you would like to borrow, complete a hiring form, and send it to the SEC Children’s Ministries department to book a time-slot. You will need to purchase your own coloured paper, card or fun foam for the shapes you want to cut. You will need to collect the machine from the SEC offices in Watford, and return it on the day your hire period ends. It is quite bulky, so you will need a car to transport it. A deposit of £20 is required (cheque or cash). This will be returned to you when you return the machine, without loss or damage, and on the day on which you have promised to return it. Warning: When using the Big Shot, basic precautions should always be followed: 1. 2. 3. 4. Read all instructions carefully before using the appliance Always place and operate the machine on a clean, flat surface Never overload the machine Cutting hazard – avoid contact with the die blades Pinch hazard – avoid contact with rollers 5. To reduce the risk of injury, close supervision is necessary when this machine is used near or by children 2 Instructions for Use Place the Sizzix Die on a Cutting Pad with foam side up. Place paper or other material to be cut on top of the die. Place the second Cutting Pad on top of the paper or material to create a ‘sandwich’. Slide the sandwich into the opening of the Big Shot machine. Note the rotation of the handle and continue to rotate it in the same direction until the sandwich has passed through the opening of the rollers. Remove the sandwich from the Big Shot machine.
