Sunday Couples
This group is organized to promote husbands and wives or significant others or
just friends (man and woman) enjoying a game of golf together. We play on
Sunday morning at 9:45 unless the club has something else scheduled at that
time. We also encourage after golf dining and social time together at the club.
We allow all levels of golfers that can generally play the game, but we impose a
maximum handicap of 28 for men and 32 for women. The fee for playing in
couples golf is $5.00 plus each person must have 5 quarters for closest to the
pin on par threes. The game is generally a four person game chosen by the
Committee (me and herself) and paring is such that the teams will be as equal
as possible. If there are just a few couples participating, the game might be
couple against couple. All monies are returned to winning players, but if you
want to make a bunch, play with the giggle or gaggle. We try to have as many
winners as money will allow. We are just here to have fun and enjoy each
other’s company. Contact Sloan or Juanita Brooks at [email protected]

couples.
Session 4: July 26-29
We invite adult couples (husband/wife, significant others, mother/son, father/
daughter, male/female friends) of varying skill levels to come out and play a nine
hole, four person scramble golf event. The cost is just $5.00 per person. Our goal
is to pay out as many teams as we can within reason. We also give money for
both the woman and man who gets closest to the pin on all par three’s. We
generally start around 5:30 p.m. (depending on the amount of daylight) each
Friday evening beginning in the spring and winding up once Daylight Savings
comes to an end. Afterward, we continue the camaraderie in the clubhouse
where we meet for dinner and drinks. This is a great way for “new and old” to mix
and develop friendships.
New golfing couples, please do not be intimidated. This is very low key. Don’t
have an established handicap or GHIN number.? No worries!
Our intent is to improve your enjoyment of our club and enjoy fellowship with
other BCC Golfing Couples.

Pro’s Corner
Two peas in a pod. We really are. Bill Stern and I are a lot more alike
than not. We both have a passion for tennis, a unique sense of humor
and we both lose things a lot. But we cover for each other, and that’s
what friends do.
Bill has been covering my back since he started teaching at Balcones.
He has spent countless hours volunteering with clinics, drills, socials
and anything and everything else to help me, our programming, and the
membership. He is truly an amazing man!
As most of you know, Bill is retiring from teaching. The good thing is I
will probably still see him every day. He is going to focus on improving
his own game and spend more time with family and friends. I am truly
thankful for all he has done, and will miss him tremendously. I really do
appreciate you Bill Stern. Thanks so much!!
Just a quick update on the lighting on courts 5-7. The re-wiring is
almost completed. The courts will be down on Tuesday, August 2 nd so
that we can bring in a lift and complete the work on top of the poles.
Thank you for your patience with this process.

We have a new pro on staff. Cody Scott just moved here from Dallas

Board of Governors
The Board of Governors has been actively working with the various committees at Balcones continuing to foster a sense of not only Pride,
but also commitment to the club.
Pride in listening to members concerns and making subtle changes to enhance our members experience. We have heard concerns from
members who frequently use the pool and we have made subtle changes with oversight and maintenance. The management will also
evaluate ongoing changes to finish out this season while evaluating larger changes to improve the experience next year.
Commitment comes through the investment the club makes in its members and in members making investments in the club. We have
seen management making improvements to the lighting on the tennis courts at Spicewood as well the North End practice facility. We saw
a tremendous amount of work go into preparing our pool for the Summer season with overdue maintenance and we as members are
benefiting from the clubs commitment to us. We have also seen a renewed commitment from members. Our tremendous club welcome
and follow ups with Preview members saw us have a 78% conversion rate of June Preview members to full membership. A combination
of great new menus (with new menu items still to come) saw food and beverage revenues in June exceed forecasts and we have seen
record participation for the couples tournaments and Sundowners.
Together, we are making our club where we want to socialize, play and eat. The Board of Governors thanks both the management and
the members for continuing to make these commitments and take Pride in our club.
John Winfrey, Board of Governors Chairman

SLOOOOWWW Down Summer! Wow! Where have the days
gone? It's August! Thank you to everyone that donated and
shopped the Garage Sale. Mission Playscape is in full
"swing". Have you noticed that the new fence is up? Our Fab
Friday Family Fun continues to be a success...kick off to
summer...luaus....and August will be Olympic theme. Surely
you haven't put away your Red, White & Blue so put on your
best duds and come out and cheer for Team USA! I'm pleased
to say that our Friday fun will continue year round - so mark
your calendar for every second Friday and watch for more
details. And how about Wine Tasting - what a wonderful turn
out from so many members who tasted and voted on their
favorites for our wine menu. Patrick is gearing up to have
quarterly wine tasting events to continue to find new delicious
wine. And what about Karaoke Night - who knew we had
such hidden talent amongst our members - such a fun night
and another fundraising success for Mission Playscape....we
are getting closer to our goal so let's keep "climbing up the
ladder" and get it built!
We've been working hard all summer to fill up the calendar
through the Fall and early Winter - remember all events are
open to all BCC members. Here's an update from the last
newsletter: Trivia Night (Aug. 5th); Boohoos and Bellinis
(Aug. 23rd); Adults Poolside Party (Aug. 26th); College

your phone and be up-to-date at a moment's notice for all
happenings.
Our committee is beginning to form smaller event subcommittees. If you are interested in helping with an event sub
-committee, please email me at [email protected]. I'm so
incredibly proud of our successes as we continue to grow our
membership. Keep talking to your friends and
neighbors. BCC has something for all ages and stages. The
fun has just begun! Looking forward to a great Fall and even
better Winter - what better place to be than at BCC with your

In an effort to clear up some of the misperceptions about the
Spicewood Golf course please understand that anyone on
the golf course property for any reason is trespassing. The
golf course is closed regardless whether you are a dues
paying member of the Club or a homeowner adjacent to any
hole on Spicewood. Baclones Country Club will not be
responsible for any injuries that occur to any persons or
family pets who are on the golf course property at any
time. Trespassers assume all risks. The only people you
should see on the property are golf course personnel that are
trying to maintain the grounds to the best of our ability.
We appreciate our members and neighbors adhering to the
current status on the Spicewood golf course.
