Insights – Lotteries in Vietnam
Mr Nguyen Thanh Dam, Director, Lottery and Gaming Division, Department of Banking and
Financial Institutions, Ministry of Finance, Vietnam
Since May 2009, Mr Dam has been assigned as the director of Lottery and Gaming Division, Banking and Financial
Institutions Department, Vietnam Ministry of Finance.
He has a thorough understanding of economics, having a master degree in Public Finance. In addition, he was
appointed to be a key personnel to attend oversea exchange meeting in Canada, Japan, etc….
With more than 16 years of working experience in state management within the financial sector and in particular the lottery and gaming
sector, he is instrumental in establishing and building a comprehensive legal framework, which contributes to the development of the Lottery
and Gaming Industry in Vietnam.

George Tanasijevich is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd, a
subsidiary of leading global integrated resorts developer, Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Managing
Director of Global Development for Las Vegas Sands Corp.
A senior management executive and accomplished attorney with extensive international experience, Mr. Tanasijevich is responsible for
overall operations of Marina Bay Sands and the development activities of Las Vegas Sands Corp.
Mr. Tanasijevich played a central and instrumental role project managing Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s successful bid to develop Singapore’s
integrated resort at Marina Bay. In this capacity, he was the company’s senior representative in Singapore overseeing a large team of
professionals from the financial, legal, construction, design, operations and marketing fields. He was also responsible for coordinating the
development of the property which combines state-of-the-art convention and exhibition facilities, a luxury hotel, world-class gaming,
entertainment, shopping and dining outlets and a museum in one landmark structure. Prior to his involvement in the company’s Singapore
activities, Mr. Tanasijevich was based in the People’s Republic of China Special Administrative Region of Macau as Director of
Development, responsible for the coordination of various commercial activities related to Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s Cotai Strip™ projects.
Mr. Tanasijevich previously served as Senior Vice President / Equity Markets at CapitaLand Limited in Singapore, Southeast Asia’s largest
real estate conglomerate. Prior to joining CapitaLand, Mr. Tanasijevich served as Corporate Vice President of General Growth Properties,
which was at that time the second largest shopping mall REIT in the United States. This followed his assignment as General Growth’s senior
attorney, responsible for heading the company’s litigation group and managing litigation across 38 states.
Mr. Tanasijevich has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a law degree from Loyola University of Chicago,
where he was a member of the law review, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the University of
Chicago Booth School of Business Global Advisory Board, and a Board Member of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce
and the Singapore Hotel Association and was named by Global Gaming Business as one of its “25 People to Watch” for 2009.

Dr. Stephen Choo, Director, Hay Group
Dr. Stephen Choo is Director at Hay Group. Previously he was Regional Director of Insight (employee survey
research division of Hay Group) ASEAN. Stephen works closely with senior executives of leading organisations
throughout the region in developing highly effective human capital strategies to achieving high organizational
performance. Stephen’s extensive consulting experience includes working with top teams in developing their
corporate visions and business goals, senior leaders on one-to-one coaching to improve their leadership and
personal effectiveness and line managers in developing effective action plans to improve team performance.
Stephen has extensive experience in management and human resource consulting. Throughout his more than 15 years of consulting
experience, Stephen has been advising numerous organizations within Asia, Australia and Middle East on employee engagement,
leadership development, talent management and executive coaching across a wide variety of industries such as banking, education, energy
FMCG, health services and manufacturing. Some of his clients include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Banque Saudi Fransi, Borouge,

Effectiveness Framework (Employee Engagement + Employee Enablement), Top Team Effectiveness, Leadership Styles and Team Climate.
Stephen has more than 15 years of experience working with organizations in improving their strategic, international and people management
capabilities. He has written a book entitled “Entrepreneurial Management” and more than 20 papers on leadership, entrepreneurship,
innovation and strategic HRM in several academic and professional publications such as Asia-Pacific Journal of Management, Asia-Pacific
Journal of Marketing and Logistics, International Journal of Technoentrepreneurship. Stephen received his B.Com (Hons) in Marketing and
M.Com in Management from Curtin University of Technology and Ph.D. in International Management from University of Western Australia.

Since October 2006, McDonald’s Thailand has been revitalized and growing faster than before. Each month, McDonald’s has served more
than 7 million customers in all age groups with different lifestyles. Currently, there are 160 McDonald’s restaurants in Thailand with a range of
convenience initiatives serving at anytime, anywhere by 8,200 staff including Dine-in, Take-away, Drive Thru, Dessert Centers, McCafé,
McDelivery 1711, 24/7 service and Wi-Fi hot-spot in modern contemporary, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
The man behind McDonald’s Thailand success is Mr. Hester Chew – Chairman of Executive Committee & Chief Executive, a chain restaurant
business guru who has a well-rounded experience in Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) through his accumulated 28 years in both international
and Thailand market. His responsibilities involve the planning of business direction and strategy for sales and marketing, including the
development of distribution channels for McDonald’s outlets in Thailand.
All these times, Mr. Hester focuses on the core business to create the best services to customers. He ensures the quality of
foods, the speed of services with friendliness and hospitality, the cleanliness and hygiene of the foods and the restaurants. He
works hard to deliver the best value of foods for Thai customers over the past several years.
Prior to his role at McDonald’s in Thailand, Mr. Hester was the Managing Director of Tricon Thailand, Singapore
and Indo-China (Currently, known as Yum Restaurants International), taking care of the brand KFC, Pizza Hut and
Taco Bell. He is also advising and consulting with several leading companies within Asia.
