Resident and Non-Resident A resident is defined as a person who has a physical address within the City limits; or an owner of property within the City limits. Verification in the form of a valid Texas driver’s license or tax assessment showing property ownership. Residents will have registration priority. Non-resident registration starts after the resident start date and is displayed in the PLAYbook as the date within the parenthesis. The non-resident cost for programs, facilities, and events is 25% more than the resident. Youth Program Scholarships Limited financial assistance for youth programs and activities is available to families that substantiate a need. Application forms are available at the C. K. Ray Recreation Center, Aquatic Center and Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center. Park Bucks Gift Certificates C.K. Ray Recreation Center – 1203 Candy Cane Ln. Park Bucks are a way for individuals to give the gift of parks and recreation. Park Bucks are available in $10, $20, and $50 increments. Parks Bucks can be used for memberships, program enrollment or facility rental. Park Bucks never expire. Discounts In situations of multiple discount opportunities (i.e.- program scholarship, special offer), only one discount may be applied Late Registration Fee $5 per person is charged for registering after the scheduled registration dates. Cancellation or Rescheduling All classes/leagues must have a minimum number of students/teams in order to be held. The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel, combine, change times, dates, or make any revisions which may be necessary. Should a cancellation or change occur, every effort will be made to contact all students/teams enrolled. Program & Membership Refunds Active Net web based registration system is used. www.cityofconroe.org Registration receipts are printed on site for walk-in; emailed for phone, fax, and online. If a participant is not pleased with a program or membership, a prorated refund will be offered. Special consideration will be given for extenuating circumstances. Refunds will be processed and a check will be mailed within thirty days of acknowledgement. A credit may be issued in lieu of a refund. A credit will be kept on file for one year. QuickStart Tennis appropriately scales down all aspects of regulation tennis, including equipment, court dimensions, and scoring so that the game becomes specifically tailored to their age and size. Youth lessons continue for ages 9-14 to learn fundamentals, focus on eye-hand coordination, basic technique, scoring, and progress to play sets and matches. Ray Recreation Center. Due to such high demand and success of our previous fall clinics, we are able to secure the services of your favorite Challenger British coaches to run a series of weekly clinics in March, April and May. These sessions focus on individual foot skills, ball control and other areas of soccer and are an ideal practice to help you prepare for upcoming seasons. This is an eight week curriculum of professional training that includes fundamental footwork, 1vs1, ball mastery and much more. She learned so much and looked forward to every class. -Janet, parent Challenger Sports Mini-Kickers Soccer A fast paced non-contact game that develops speed, skill, and agility. Learn the fundamentals of passing, catching, and running. Fun and sportsmanship are emphasized. Teams are organized by grade. Register as a whole team, partial team, or individual. Sign up and play with your school mates and friends. Games played Sundays from 2:00-6:00pm, with practice before games. One day per week commitment. Play for a chance to participate in NFL Flag Regional and National Tournaments. Professional licensed British coaches will ensure your child has a positive soccer experience. The Mini-Kickers curriculum has been devised by soccer experts, child development professionals, and experienced coaches. Classes are weekly 45 minute sessions for period of 6 weeks. Tasks may include trash pickup, graffiti reporting, weeding/raking playgrounds, sweeping shelters, cleaning picnic tables, mulching trees/ shrubs, restocking doggie bags and reporting vandalism. Adopters can also help with special projects, such as graffiti cover-up, painting projects and planting flowers. Call 936.522.3842. Park Pavilion Reservations Athletic Field Reservations Team managers may reserve one field on a monthly basis on the 15th of each month, for the next month, starting January 15th. A second date will be available on the 22nd of each month. If the 15th or the 22nd are a Saturday or Sunday, Monday shall be used to schedule. No cash refunds. • The City of Conroe reserves the right to refuse entry into the facility. • The City of Conroe is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. • Children under 3 years must remain within arm’s reach of an adult at all times. • Children 8 years old and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. • Infants and young children must wear swim diapers. • Inflatable devices and infant float seats are not permitted. • Masks, snorkels, and/or fins may be used only by adults in lap lanes. • Please take a soap shower before entering the pool. • Do not enter the pool if you are ill or have an open wound. • Coolers, outside food and drink are not allowed in the facility. • Concession food and drink are restricted to the tables. • No glass containers allowed. • Children using the slide on the Play Structure must be under 48” tall. • Persons using the Tower slide must be 48”or taller and be able to swim independently to the side. • Lap lane use is for ages 16 years and older. Lanes may be restricted depending on programming. • Dive in designated areas only. • Use of starting blocks is restricted to supervised Aquatic Center programming. • For your own safety, please follow the lifeguard’s directives. • Running, lewd behavior or other misconduct is prohibited. • Alcohol and tobacco use in the facility is not allowed. • No gum allowed in the pool. • Other rules may apply as posted on the premises Pool and Pavilion Rentals Make a splash with your special event at our Aquatic Facility. Ray Recreation Center must have a current membership ID card and membership or pay the daily admission. • A $5.00 fee will be assessed to replace a lost membership card. • Memberships can only be obtained by persons 18 years and older. Children must have a parent or guardian present to obtain their memberships. • Children 8-under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times unless in Kidz Zone. Ray Recreation Center The C.K. Ray Recreation Center has been voted BEST PLACE TO EXERCISE by the community and readers of The Courier. The Best Pics Contest declared ‘The Rec” as winner and community favorite. “The Rec” is a full fitness facility featuring a fitness center with cardio equipment and machine and free weights, racquetball courts, gymnasium, fitness center for all levels, locker rooms and child watch service. Facility Rentals Do you need a venue for your special event? The City of Conroe has affordable facilities to accommodate your wedding, banquet, meeting, or sports activity. The Activity Center has a 5000 sq. feet main room that can hold 200 people, an adjacent kitchen, and 3 small meeting rooms that can hold 25 people each. The Friendship Center has a large room and kitchen and will accommodate 60 people. At THE REC Center, the gymnasium can facilitate various sporting activities, or you can hold a meeting for up to 50 people in the multi-purpose room. By providing children the opportunity to discover hidden talents as they grow academically and socially, it is one of the best and most affordable options for after school care in our area. The program accommodates nearly 500 children daily from twelve schools around the city. The After School Recreation Program begins at the time school releases and is operated under the guidance and supervision of trained and caring staff at a 10:1 ratio. The program offers a snack each day and provides homework assistance for at least thirty minutes before a variety of recreational opportunities are made available until parent pickup or 6:30pm. Through collaborative partnerships such as AgriLife Extension, Sam Houston State University, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Organwise Guys and National Recreation and Parks Association, special educational programs are incorporated throughout the year to enhance the after school experience. This program offers an open gym concept with various recreation opportunities for students in 3rd - 12th grade with all passing grades. Each grading period, students must show proof that they are passing every class in order to participate. For those not passing, homework assistance is available during program hours. The program is held in WJH gym, provides a snack and operates from 5:30pm–7:30pm Monday - Thursday when school is in session unless school functions take precedent of the facility. Students absent from school (including ISS) may not attend Pass 2 Play on the day that was missed. Registration form must be completed prior to starting the program. Parent & Child (6 to 36 months) A Red Cross parent and child aquatics program providing a nationally standardized format that will promote water safety practices, aquatic adjustments, swimming readiness skills, fun and enjoyment in the water. Parent is in the water with the child. A child must wear close fitting plastic pants under swimsuits or a swim diaper under their swimsuit. Water Sprites (3 to 5 years) A beginner class specifically for 3-5 year olds. Emphasis is on water adjustment, safety, and basic Red Cross Level 1 skills. Each child progresses according to their own ability. A child must be capable of working independently with an instructor in a group situation. Super Tots (3 to 5 years old) Advanced 3-5 year olds who have achieved Level 1 proficiency as evaluated by the Aquatic Center staff. Registration in this class requires instructor approval. Level 1 The student practices bubbling and breathing skills, prone and back floating, proper kicking technique and elementary locomotion skills. Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg action, personal safety and rescue technique is also demonstrated. Level 2 Pre-requisite: successful completion of Level 1. The student will improve Level 1 skills and work further on a consistent rhythmic breathing pattern as well as deep water exploration and safety skills. Unsupported prone and back glides are learned, proper kicking techniques, finning, back crawl arm action, crawl stroke and additional safety skill development. Level 3 Pre-requisite: successful completion of Level 2. Emphasis is on improving Level 2 skills, jumping, diving entries and crawl stroke with a consistent breathing pattern. Students work on elementary back stroke and the coordination of the back crawl, beginner diving technique, endurance, personal strength, and adding to safety skills. Level 4 Pre-requisite: successful completion of Level 3. Perfect previously learned skills, swimming front and back crawl. Introduction of breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke (scissor) kicking technique, and more advanced survival skills. Level 5 Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Level 4. Designed to refine strokes already learned, increase endurance, and introduce diving progressions, butterfly and advanced personal safety. Level 6 Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Level 5.
