There is something timeless about entering a kitchen and seeing that it has a stone fireplace and a huge table the transport of which defies the laws of logic. Situated in the old kitchen of the Palace of Queluz, it remains unchanged at its base - the table where you’ll find the dessert buffet that gives so much fame to the house is the table where all the Palace’s food was prepared on. The chimneys are old and the coppers that are displayed on the walls are original to the kitchen. Under the chimney is a spit where roasted whole mounts (cattle, pigs) and numerous smoke bars where sausages from hunt were prepared. Overlooking the garden and the porch of the Palace of Queluz, choose a table by the fireplace or the window to have the best winter or summer experience. With wooden ceilings, sash windows and tables set in a simple and elegant way, in order to highlight the food, feel transported to another world where it is easy to imagine women in big round skirts handling the copper pots. The dishwasher sink and the cup are absolutely original. The paintings depict hunting scenes. And start your journey in time in this kitchen inherited from the Countess Almeida Araújo, who borrowed many recipes from France and trained its staff privately in order to open the restaurant. IN THE RESTAURANT OF THE POUSADA SPECIALITIES Seafood Cream Soup with Migas and Lobster Medallion Onion Soup au Gratin Goat Cheese in Puff Pastry with Honey and Walnuts Sautéed Sole Cozinha Velha Style Codfish Lafões Style Lamb Ribs with Mint Sauce Duck Confit With Risotto Ivory Pudding Number of seats: 75 The dishes are subject to chage without prior notice. OUT Queluz is a privileged city for its location, a mere 5Km from Lisbon, 14Km from Sintra and 20Km from Cascais – three cities with a heritage and essential points of touristic interest in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon. This region is “blessed” by the climate, mostly sunny, even during the winter peak. In these three cities you will find an extraordinary variety of activities and places to visit, all of them with charming landscapes where the river and the sea are always present. As soon as it gets warm, the first bathers spend their leisure time on the very beautiful beaches of the region. By the evening, from Sintra to the banks of the Tagus River in Lisbon and the Cascais-Oeiras line, enjoy the large variety of restaurants, bars and terraces at the seafront or on the banks of the river. Lisbon is always a good excuse for enjoying leisure time. From water sports to horse riding – there are innumerable activities awaiting you in this region. In Queluz, enjoy the afternoon in the Tea House in the Palace Gardens, or take the chance to enjoy one of the concerts or piano recitals in the Palace, in the midst of a unique atmosphere.
