Crete
Anchored in the sea, at the crossroads of three continents - Europe to the North, Asia to the east,
and Africa to the south, Crete seems to spread its length like a barrier across the southern Aegean. It
is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean
Sea. Her capital and also biggest city is Heraklion.
Legend has bestowed upon the Greek island of Crete the privilege of being the birthplace of Zeus,
father of the gods and of the Minoan civilization, one of the first civilizations in Europe. Crete is a
place with a great history from ancient times. It offers visitors a priceless wealth of findings of all the
civilizations that flourished on the island. The island is full of relics of the Minoan ages the most
famous being the palaces at Knossos and Phaistos.
One characteristic of the morphology of the island is that it is extremely mountainous, and its
character is defined by a high mountain range crossing from west to east, formed by three different
groups of mountains.
The climate is known to be Mediterranean with 300 days of sunshine a year, which is very helpful to
the tourism of the island, since it is the most popular holiday vacation in Greece. Visitors reach the
island via two international airports in Heraklion and Chania and a smaller airport in Sitia
(international charter and domestic flights starting May 2012) [18] or by boat to the main ports of
Heraklion, Chania, Rethimno, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia.

Kea, resembling a water drop, stands lofty in front of the large sea current Cavo Doro and is
considered the natural bridge of communication of the mainland of Greece with the Cyclades,
delimiting at the same time the Archipelago from the Southern Eubean gulf.
With a perimeter of roughly 85 kilometres and a total surface of 131 square kilometres, Kea is one of
the biggest Cycladic islands. Furthermore, Kea is the most western cycladic island and the nearest
to Attica. Its harbour abstains only 40 miles from Piraeus and 16 miles from Lavrion.

The Samos island lies in the heart of Central Aegean, 1200 meters from the shore of Asia Minor. Its
area is 477,395 km2 and geographically located between the parallels 37.49 and 37.37 to the North
and themeridians 26.33 and 27.04 to the East.
To the East of Samos is Turkey and Asia Minor, from which Samos is separated by the “Eptastadio”
channel, (called Dar Bogaz in Turkish) whish is only 1650 meters wide at its narrowest point. To the
North is the chersonese of Erythrea (Turkey), Northwest is Chios Island, west and southwest is Ikaria
and the Fournoi islands and to the South are the islands of the Dodecanese.
It is shaped like a peninsula, and according to the geologists who have studied its rock formation,
among the other things, their conclusion is that the various geological upheavals which occurred in
the course of the centuries cut off this piece of what had been the Asia Minor coast.
Samos is a mountainous island and it has two high mountains. The first one is rough and rocky Kerkis
(or Kerketeus) with a height of 1443 meters and the second is verdant and fertile Ambelos (or
Karvounis) with a height of 1160 meters.
There are few plains, the largest one is the plain of Chora, which is in the south side of the island and
is bounded by the villages of Chora, Pythagoreio, Miloi and Pagondas. Kerkis mountain (or

There aren’t any rivers in the island but there are many torrents that carry water even in the
summertime.
Samos produces many and various products. For that the ancient Greeks used to say “this island

Samothrace (also Samothraki) is a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea. It is a municipality within
the Evros regional unit of Thrace.
Samothraki's natural attributes are dramatic, big and untamed. There are thick forests of olive and

Arriving on Alonissos with the ferry or the hydrofoil, one disembarks in Patitiri. Patitiri was chosen to be
the main Port because is a natural harbour.
It took its name from the old wine pressures ( Patitiria )that used to exists, from when Alonissos was a
red wine produser island.
