(Line, Corner, End, Stair and Post Bracket)
Railing Project Plan
1- S ketch your project to scale using the actual measurements of your deck or balcony. Indicate the
location of the railing and any gates you wish to install.
2- D
etermine how many posts (Line, Corner, and End), sections, and gates are necessary.
Note: Specific Line, Corner and End posts may be available for certain models made with holes,
such as the Classic and Colonial. Other models which use a bracket system, such as the Premium
Classic, Premium Colonial and Premium ClearView only have one universal post that can be converted (by using the brackets) to the type of posts required for your installation.
3- D
epending on the model of railing, brackets may be included with the sections or sold
separately. Check to see if your model includes these. If not, calculate how many you will need
according to the number and types of posts you require. Note that even if your model comes
with brackets, adjustments you may make to the standard setup might require more brackets.

How to figure out what parts and how many you will need for your railing project:

The general dimension required is about 8" in diameter depending
on the size of the post that will be installed and at least 48" in
depth, depending on the area and the frost line of your location.

to provide you with a stylish
open-look railing with minimalmaintenance. It will never require
scraping, sanding, or painting
to keep looking like new.
When measuring for post installation, the measurement given with the
section is from the center of one post to the center of the next, NOT the
distance between the posts.
It might be necessary to cut the rails to balance the sections properly.
Always cut an equal amount from each end of the rail so the pickets are
well centered.
It is preferable to pre-drill holes before placing the screws.

When measuring for post installation, the measurement given with the section is from
the center of one post to the center of the next, NOT the distance between the posts.
The posts must have exact spacing, therefore it is best to install one section at a time.
If you wish to install the posts first, verify the measurements before they are set
into concrete.

There are a few considerations when installing
synthetic lumber to account for contraction
and expansion when subjected to different
temperatures.
At least one hour before installation, lay all
materials flatin on layer on your deck area.
Be sure all materials have the same degree of
sun exposure.
Synthetic lumber should be installed parallel or
at a 90 degree angle to the supporting structure.
Installing it at an angle may cause an uneven
edge.

wall, leave 1/4” to allow for expansion.
Do not install boards end to end.
If your deck plan includes areas that would
require laying the lumber end to end, these tips
may provide a solution:
Plan on building a flower box or decorative
feature in the area where the boards will not
cover.
