prevent food waste.
We work toward this mission by
ensuring that all products available
for donation reach the Food Bank
and are distributed judiciously to
our member agencies.
Dear Friends,
We had the good fortune at the Regional Food Bank to work with many long-time supporters and new partners in 2015 to provide greater
levels of assistance to the community than ever before. It was very rewarding to see such a generous outpouring of support from all
different segments of the community.
Throughout the year, food donations from retail grocery stores and local farms increased significantly. Our BackPack Program grew to
serve over 3,000 needy children in 115 schools. More than 14,000 volunteers provided 71,800 hours of service. All of our fundraising
events and appeals were successful, and many individuals and community groups organized dozens of special events to raise money and
food for the Food Bank. We made major operational improvements at our Food Bank of the Hudson Valley branch, and initiated a new
fundraising dinner there that raised $90,000 in its first year. Most importantly, we provided over 35 million pounds of food and other
essential products to our 1,000 member agencies, enough for 29 million meals for our neighbors in need.
We also initiated plans for a much needed expansion of the distribution dock and offices at our Latham facility, and entered into an
agreement to install solar on both of our warehouses. These projects will be completed in 2016 and make us more productive, efficient,
and green.
We are proud of these accomplishments and grateful to everyone who helped make them possible. We thank our many friends and
supporters for their belief in the Regional Food Bank and commitment to serve those most in need in our northeastern New York
community.

• 1,056 active programs, including food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters; 49 new in 2015
• In person visits conducted with 697 member agencies to ensure compliance with Food Bank policies and help build capacity
to address clients’ needs
• 50 workshops provided to member agencies on topics like Food Safety, Nutrition, Fundraising, and Grant Writing
• Online Ordering system piloted and over 100 agencies trained to order online

serving over 3,000 students each week
• Orange County unveiled the Orange Cares initiative, which provides funding for the BackPack Program to expand into 22 new
schools in Orange County over the next two school years
• Summer BackPack Program delivered a week’s worth of food to 243 children
throughout Schoharie County for 10 weeks in the summer
• Summer Food Service Program provided over 23,000 free meals to children in
Albany, Amsterdam, Glens Falls, and Warrensburg, doubling the meals
served in 2014 (USDA is an equal opportunity employer and provider)

The staff of the Regional Food Bank and
Food Bank of the Hudson Valley would like

Volunteers are vital to the Food Bank’s operation and
contribute in countless ways. Sorting food, picking produce
at our farm, or raising money at a fundraising event—there
are endless varieties of enjoyable, rewarding tasks that
volunteers perform every day.
Financial donations sustain the Food Bank and enrich the
larger community by providing nourishment, dignity, and
a sense of sharing to all involved. Funds come from grants,
special events, and contributions, and each donation makes
a meaningful difference. In-kind donations come in many
forms, from printing to paving and more. These donations
allow the Food Bank to provide more food to hungry people.

Food donations are at the core of the Food Bank’s work.
Food companies donate their edible but unsaleable food,
and individuals and organizations conduct food drives
at all times of the year. Non-food items like paper goods
and cleaning supplies are also donated. These products
are provided to food pantries, soup kitchens, and other
agencies serving people in need.
